I guess the producers were waiting for the Jakob/Kathryn team-up, since they're clearly the most technically skilled of this season's dancers. This will no doubt be tonight's "Arty" entry, and if it comes off as expected, the judges will fall all over themselves selling either one for the win.
One killer routine could make all the difference in the voting.
(I'm not counting the pairing as a "spoiler", since its been made clear that every possible male/female pairing will occur, and no solos. I'll be curious to see how they cram it all in.)

I'm still a bit miffed that Ashleigh is still in the competition. Anyone with a better memory than I do remember the female contestant a few seasons ago who was unable to dance on performance night because of a medical emergency, came back to perform the number with her partner but wasn't allowed to receive any votes and eliminated from the competition? I seem to remember that she was a favorite as well.
Anyway, this has been a weird season. From the start, it has had a different feel than past seasons, like something is just off. And like others have said, the choreographers seem to have dropped the ball more this season than in the past.

This season they're doing it differently, but it started with Noelle in the first round.

Anyone think appointing Adam Shankman as the 3rd judge was a mistake or just made for a less varied amount of judging this season? Plus Mia Michaels was not apart of the top 20 and on shows.

Kat mentioned that the auditions for Season 7 were going to start in January... and that's an early start for Fall.
Methinks that Fox is going to take this show back to summers (where it belongs) and find something else for the Fall 2010 sched.

It was Pasha and his partner, Jaimie, in Season Three. Pasha danced with a sub, Melanie LaPatin (who danced with Russell when Noelle was injured this season). Jamie went automatically to the bottom three or four. The judges eliminated her.
This season they're doing it differently, but it started with Noelle in the first round.

The wife just directed me to the SYTYCD community forum, and some of the headlines are classic -- especially about Ryan and Ashleigh.

I voted Jakob because he is technically perfect and a great performer. He is a joy to watch and connects to me through his dance.
I love Katherine, but based on Jeanine just winning, its hard not to compare the two, and while Katherine is very good, she is no Jeanine, and its just to close to not compare the two.
Can not wait for this tour. I actually really enjoyed this season, as short and rushed as it seemed.

I was watching Jakob tonight and I thought, "Y'know... if they ever did "Dexter" on Broadway..."

Can anyone tell me what number Jakob was tonight? I missed the show but want to vote for him.

I missed the solos, but this was easily the best performance finale of the show.
I loved the samba and paso and kathryn/jakob contemporary. Those three have to be on the tour.
I initially wanted Jakob to win this season, but Kathryn has proven herself worthy of winning, IMO, so I am rooting for her to win (I also think she is better than Jeanine). I'd be OK if Jakob wins though.

Kathryn just has a certain quality about her dancing that makes her my favorite. She brings a life to everything that captures my attention with every movement. She's elegant when she needs to be elegant, sexy when she needs to be sexy, hard when she needs to be hard. Jakob is amazing and his technique is usually flawless, but he just doesn't grab me the same way. At times I find myself admiring his technique but not drawn completely into the dance.
Doesn't matter anyway, Russell is going to win.

I missed this episode, is it being reshown anywhere? I didn't see it at Fox or Hulu.
I did try to vote for Jakob a few times (the number shown in post #16) but the number was always busy. He will win.
And I like some of the thread titles at the SYTYCD forum:
and the OSCAR goes to Ashleigh and Ryan for "Way to manipulate your way to the finale"
ASHLEIGH AND RYAN HAVE MORE DRAMA THAN GENERAL HOSPITAL
If Ryan or Ashleigh wins, I'm sleeping with Tiger Woods

I've kind of felt Russell was going to win this thing from the beginning, and I think he had an excellent night (though, personally, I was more impressed by Legacy as the season went on).
I voted for Jakob, and kind of hoped he'd "dark horse" his way to the win, but I think Kathryn has probably grabbed second place, with a great night and the judges' fervent support.
The one I'm not sure of is Ellenore, who started strong tonight but sort of faded into the background as the night wore on (I'm also not sure how The DiLellos' last moments will sway the voting audience).
If things haven't changed, the episodes are no longer online, but the last time I missed one I was able to re-construct it by using the running order provided by a TV Guide site re-cap and searching out the individual clips on you.tube.

While the judges have been pimping Russell's story, and Jakob's raw physical dancing talent, I still enjoyed the numbers that featured Kathryn, mainly because she's the one who really lights a fire under any of the dances she is saddled with, and she seems to elevate her partner's dancing as well, and just seems to have more personality on the dance floor than any of the final 6 this particular season. Kathryn had the best overall night of all the dancers tonight, but we'll just have to see if the voters decide to with Russell or Jakob.

Voted for Kathryn (in the poll) but wanted to say that no one has made me want to pick up the phone for them since Benji in Season 2.
Die-hard fan of watching the show. Casual caller.
I think that the Di Ellos will be cut first, then Ellenore, then Jakob, then Kathryn, with Russell being the winner.
But Kathryn would be my first choice, then Russell, then Jakob.

Didn't Mia have some family health issues? Or her own health issues? But I agree that her absence has been felt this season.
Kathryn for the win!
[Pedantic Edit] There's no accent on the 'e' in Finale.

As far as Adam Shankman goes, I love him! Last season I would just fast forward through Mia Michaels or Little C as they rambled on about nothing, at least Adam Shankman adds sustenance to the third judging position. Now if they could do something about Mary's incessant screaming.
And I wish that Paula Abdul had shown up as a guest judge for at least one episode. Oh well.
