Finally got around to getting an optical cable so now i can finally hear shows in 5.1 sound when in HD. I was wondering if there are any shows in particular that show off the surround sound or directional panning (or even the deep bass)

Sons of Anarchy sounds pretty good because of the bikes. 24 is also pretty good.

The only show I go out of my way to watch with 5.1 surround is Lost.

Why LOST?

I don't know about the DVD / Blu-ray releases but the audio as broadcast on ABC just so front-heavy.

When it was on TV, "Eli Stone" had the deepest bass I've ever heard on a TV show in its brief main title sequence.

When I think of content that screams for 5.1 - its not usually a show based on dialogue as heavy as survivor. Where's the cool special effects that will wake up the speakers?
I try to make sure I have the 5.1 turned on for most action shows, scifi shows, etc. Stuff with some sound effects.

The Mentalist, Medium, CSI

Basically ABC prime time shows. They really jack up the sound on those show. Major bass. The food network in HD has great bass. And Lost, Heroes, Chuck when it starts.

Unfortunatly, the NBC affiliate out here does not broadcast in 5.1, so Heroes would just be in regular pro logic 2.0 sound.

Agreed on Glee. Any time during musical numbers especially. Also noticed some really nice deep bass on the dollhouse opening

yeah, forgot about that. Lost is very hit or miss. Sometimes it's rockin' the surrounds and other times you have to crank it up beyond anything you ever play just to hear it.

Numbers on CBS almost always has really nice 5.1 sound.

I find that CBS often broadcasts fake 5.1, meaning the signal is identified as being 5.1 but it's nothing but Dolby Pro-Logic being sent as a 5.1 signal.
