I don't think these threads have been receiving much attention during the NBC encores. Anyway, I've really been enjoying this season thus far (perhaps my expectations were slightly lowered after reading about the initial feedback).
Looking forward to tonight's episode -- heard it is one of the season's strongest.

Have the episodes run longer on directv than they have on NBC? Have us NBC viewers missed much in these new episodes so far?

You know I am sure this a really fantastic episode. But since our NBC station in Kansas City is covering tornado warnings(just funnel clouds) north of the KC Area, I won't get to see it until the dvds come out or Time Warner updates their on demand with the latest episodes.

I believe you are missing a few minutes/scenes. I haven't watched too many of the NBC airings but I did notice one very small scene that was cut
last season.
I also heard that the DVD's are from the NBC airings and not DTv's.

If the Emmy voters have half a brain, they'll give one of the 5 Best Actor in a Drama spots to Zach Gilford. He wouldn't win since he would be up against Jon Hamm and Bryan Cranston, but at the least, he deserves to be there.
Watching Vince pick up his mom and carry her back into the apartment was sad to watch. I hope his crime career is short-lived and Eric straightens him out.
I'll hold off on the Becca-Tim happenings until at least after the next episode. I'm glad he didn't do anything to her, but since it is Tim Riggins, who knows what is going to happen.

I felt tonight's was probably the strongest in some time. It was really good.
Matt's performance was great. Tami is always strong. I'm really starting to like Luke. (I think he'd be good for Becca, if they go down that road. With Tim distracted now hopefully she'll find something good with all the other letdowns she's got in her life.)

Best Supporting Actor? Absolutely.
That's what he is on this show: A supporting actor.
I think he has a better chance of getting a nod in the supporting catergory.
Who are we kidding? This show never gets recognized for anything in the Emmy world.

The show has been nominated for 4 Emmys (3 Casting for Drama Series and 1 Directing for Drama Series) and won 1 (Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series in 2007).

Matt's Grandma is long overdue for an Emmy nod. I forget she is even an actress playing a role! She is fantastic!

How can you win best casting and not have any of the cast nominated?

I don't get it either. If it was up to me, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton would have been in the running the last 3 years and would be in it again this year. We'll find out July 8th.

Just watched this today. It was fairly devastating. Since he's been listed as a guest star I'm assuming Zach Gilford is leaving fairly soon. I don't get that; he's always been the heart of the show and, live in health care workers aside (and even that was probably the strongest of the crappy season 2 storylines), among the strongest storylines. They should have let him stick around.
As for Coach Taylor at East Dillon...I think he got what he deserved for his no reason benching of his state winning senior QB last year in favor of the freshman. It put the douchebag father in the room. JD McCoy should have been the QB1 of the JV team last year.

Every week I walk away drooling for the next episode. I pretty much found myself in tears from the moment Julie told Matt about his father through the end of the episode. Talk about a great way to kick-off your weekend... yeesh!

If the DVDs do in fact only present the NBC footage and not the extended DirecTV scenes, that would be criminal. While they didn't seem crucial when I watched the DirecTV airings last season compared to the NBC encores, I see no reason to not include them!

I'm guessing because that gives NBC more/all $$ in DVD sales? Maybe the agreement was Dtv gets to air them first, giving us subscribers no commercials and a few extra scenes and NBC gets to put their version on DVD?
There is a deleted scene section, but I don't recall if that includes the missing scenes from Dtv. I would imagine it would.
I wonder if anyone out there ever listed exactly what scenes were cut or shortened.

Gilford was fantastic this ep, which overall was a nice rebound from the lackluster storylines/writing this season.

Fantastic episode, with a fantastic performance by Zach Gilford. Although it was kind of weird for me seeing Matt Saracen mourn his father since I know Zach Gilford's father.
