Dexter - "Hungry Man" - 11/22/09

"Hungry Man"
Spoiler:
For most people, Thanksgiving is a time for traditions and family. But for Dexter, it's an opportunity to get closer to his most dangerous adversary yet. As Dexter gains insight into Arthur's psychology by studying those closest to him, he finds himself drawn into a bizarre and twisted world. Meanwhile, Rita has her hands full preparing dinner for a packed house, including a few unexpected guests. Batista gets closure on an old case, while Debra uses the holiday to continue her investigation of the Trinity Killer, a pursuit which threatens her brother's safety and brings to light surprising revelations about someone else close to her.

I really wasn't expecting that little twist. That'll shake things up a bit.

Crazy shit, man.

Vincent catching Rita and dickhead neighbor kissing...

"Dad."

Dexter dragging Arthur through his house and coming this far from killing him in front of his own family.

Seriously creepy, unnerving shit. Dexter's playing a very dangerous game of cat and mouse with the Trinity Killer, insinuating himself into his family, needling him, and it seems like every encounter goes a little bit further than the last one. I don't think Dexter realizes how crazy Miller is and what kind of threat he poses. Dexter thinks he's the one in control, but he's playing with fire.

As we were watching, my wife said "Do you think the reporter shot Lundy?" and I said "I hope not, that would be really stupid." But then with one word they made me realize how wrong I was and made this whole subplot worthwhile.

Wow, I take back every complaint I have ever made about my own family holiday dinners after seeing Trinity's.

Yikes is all I have to say.

Also, was I the only one who noticed that Oakland was playing Seattle on the thanksgiving day game?
No Detroit or Dallas?

Truly awesome episode. Was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I kept yelling "Kill him!" really loud at the screen for like 10 minutes. Sucks he didn't hear me.

Great twist too.

Great episode. I was wishing Dexter was going to kill him in the kitchen.

Excellent episode, like a lot of people I had an idea last week who shot Lundy, but I didn't expect the thing at the end of the episode at all.

I called it as the reporter back when they first got shot, but man...did not expect the Dad connection.

When he appeared at first, I thought he was going to start the kill cycle over with her. Then WHAM! I cannot wait to see this resolve.

Finally got caught up on this and wow what a damn episode... So uncomfortable and tense at the same time. I loved Masuka's reaction to what he saw.

Really good.

Major logic gap in Dexter using work as an excuse and having Deb and Masuka over, but The Trinity Family Thanksgiving shenanigans more than made up for that.

And major kudos to the writers for faking out viewers by having one obvious twist and adding the secret, "Heres the real one" twisteroo.

He was doing the work for another department in another county, so Deb and Vince wouldn't necessarily have known about it. It might be a bit of a stretch, but it isn't really a hole.

I got interrupted just as Trinity comes over to the reporter's house. Before I got back I was pissed because I thought he was going to kill her and we wouldn't get the satisfaction of seeing Deb getting revenge for Lundy. I came back, and turned out there was only a second left in the episode -- and they squeezed in a big twist!

Deb certainly wouldn't have been in that loop, but Masuka probably would be unless it's such a common practice that he doesn't question it.

IMHO Dexter is the best show on TV right now mainly because of the writing and it's also worth noting that they've abandoned the neighborhood watch sub-plot that wasn't working very well.

Re: Dexter - "Hungry Man" - 11/22/09

I was expecting Masuka to say something like "What case?" in regards to Dexter being gone.

I figured Deb inviting Masuka over was setting it up for Rita to find out Dexter's long work hours aren't real. But nothing.

What did he see? For some reason, my recording went out a few times, so I missed a few seconds here and there. That was one instance. Basically all I saw was Masuka with a weird look on his face and then saying he wanted to leave. I thought maybe he saw something incriminating about Dexter.

The other big moment where my recording had a blip was during the Dexter/Trinity confrontation. Dexter pulls Trinity off the son and they fall back. Then my recording messes up and the next thing I know Dexter is holding a knife over him in the kitchen. I could sort of see what happened by rewinding, obviously I know the result, but it would have been nice to experience that moment as intended.

Ellis kissed Rita. This also informs Rita's behavior later in the episode when Dexter returns.

He saw creepy neighbor make a pass at Rita. She kissed him back for a moment, thought better of it, and hurried back to her house.

Really great episode. And really great season.

They really did a great job with the Trinity story.
