Damn, that's a bummer. Like many of you I used to watch that show all the time.

Re: Ken Ober dead at 52

When I was 19, I had a friend who was on the show in season 4, and so a bunch of us went to see her taping. She ended up winning a trip to Cancun by setting the record for the fastest bonus round win.

A friend and I had so much fun during the taping that we decided to keep going back, over and over, that summer. The show used to shoot 4-5 episodes a day at a studio in Spanish Harlem. We got to hang out with Colin and several of the production folks a lot, and Mark Cohen, who used to do audience warmup. (People would ask, when they saw Alicia, "What happened to Kari?" and his standard response was "She spontaneously combusted at a Slayer concert.")

We actually were in the audience shots so many times that they started asking us to sit in the back during certain cutaways.

We were invited to the wrap party, but couldn't go because we left on vacation a few days before. They also gave us a Zenith multibrand remote, which back in 1989 was a pretty cool and expensive toy.

Lots of fun, and a great way to spend the summer after our first year of college.

MTV is currently airing a couple episodes of Remote Control in honor of Ober.

What a trip- Denis Leary as Andy Warhol

I can't believe prizes included audio cassettes and 110 cameras. Those sucked even in 1987.
