I find it a bit odd that they're playing up the Pam being unreasonable so much. I think maybe they believe this is the only attribute that pregnant women have or something.

Other than that, solid episode.

Michael Scott banging your mother is not something that is unreasonable to get upset over.

There's getting upset, and there is her reaction tonight.

Well, if she was just kind of bummed out about it, then there wouldn't have been an episode.

Come on.

I understand that some reactions are going to be a little more over the top on TV, but this isn't the first time this season Pam has overreacted. I think that creates a pattern that can be explained only by suggesting the writers believe pregnant women are chronic over-reactors.

After the letdown that was Mafia, The Office returns to fine form for me.

Jimmy, you have to understand that not only is she pregnant and her mom is sleeping with her boss, her boss is Michael Scott. All 3 combine to create a perfect storm that results in her losing it.

Kudos to Jim for letting Pam get it all out (TWSS!).

Stanley and Creed don't even have to get a line to be hilarious as they showed with cheering with Pam and crying at the aria, respectively.

What was the deal with the hat B.J. was wearing? I'm thinking he got his hair cut for a role and had to wear it.

This is a show where reality is heightened to the nth degree. In "The Office" universe, her reaction was completely valid. Did you see Michael's reaction when Toby came back? Same thing.

Laughed from start to finish. Going to end up being the funniest episode of the season.

That's the same hat from Kevin's "Scrantonicity" days, right?

Re: The Office -- "The Lover" -- 10/22/09

This was NOT an episode about how pregnant women can, allegedly, be emotional on rare occasions. (And of course they never are--I have kids and my wife was NEVER emotional during pregnancy.) This was about Pam's mom hooking up with MICHAEL. (I did, however, find his comments about "What is so bad about me?" somewhat poignant.)

The scene where it was revealed to Pam, as she went from giddy to horror-stricken, was played brilliantly. The way her face turned, the way Michael said softly, "It's OK" as Pam realized the terror...Just perfect.

Best episode in very long while. Too many greats scenes to quote. Loved it from start to finish.

Very, very funny stuff. The frank and beans thing got really old really quick, but I know that was probably partially the point. We've all had friends or co-workers who find these annoying inside jokes that they run into the ground and drive everyone nuts with.

Stanley and Creed were gold!

The look on Michael's face was priceless! And then it cut to Pam's horror-struck look as the realization sank in.

This was a great episode from beginning to end!

Like last week, the delete scene features Erin:

Good episode, minus Pam who bugged the shit out of me. But Toby, Michael, Jim and Erin were all hilarious. And I also caught Stanley's excited face in the background, which was also great.

I agree. Angry Pam is not funny in my opinion. The episode was hilarious though.

Also, somebody wanted to know how the show would work if Jim and Pam left the show (I haven't heard any rumors about that though). Anyway, although it would probably hurt the show because they're popular characters, I personally don't think it would affect things that much and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the fact that I don't really like their characters very much.

They were practically non-existant for most of season 3. Pam's character simply moped around because she missed Jim and really added very little to the story. Jim at least had his own stuff going on in Stamford and the whole Karen thing, but his character was diminished as well. As it's been pointed out, Jim and Pam (as a couple) has not really been a focal point of the show (aside from their wedding and a few episodes that focussed on their relationship) and like I said, their roles were greatly diminished in season 3, so I really don't think the show would suffer that much if they left simply because they practically left in season 3 and season 3 was one of my favorite seasons.

Now, they were still a part of the show obviously in season 3 so if they truly left for good it would probably be a little different, but the show has proven that it can still be very good even without Jim and Pam as focal points.

I thought angry Pam worked because they seemed to very quickly slip into an angry teen/step dad dynamic. I found that funny.

Granted, there were some funny parts, but she just came off as bitchy and mean-spirited. I know she obviously hated the fact that Michael, of all people, hooked up with her mom, but she just whined about it too much.

Pams reaction is very much valid. Pam has coddled Michael Scott and sees him for what he is....A child. She said it herself when the michael scott paper company was on the ropes and she was 2nd guessing her loyalty move. With Michael hooking up with her mom of course she lost it. Total Betrayal not to mention the horror of a person she sees as a child and a joke can potentially be her father? I am surprised she did not lunge at him with a pair of sissors.

I'm surprised this was the first mention (I think) that Pam did indeed follow Michael out the door to the Michael Scott Paper Company. Without her, I doubt the company would have gotten off the ground at all, and he certainly would not have been able to make it back to D-M. He owes her that much, at least, and this is a pretty serious betrayal for sure.

Dwight at the end, "I'm not a crazy person", and just listening to the audio of Jim talking about paper. I wonder if they'll return to that storyline or if it'll be forgotten.
