Re: Survivor: Samoa - 9/24/09
I can only assume Jasmin is trying to make a name for herself post-Survivor because her behavior and bitchy rant was the stupidest thing I've seen on this show in a long time.
for Probst making such a big deal about being the first player ever kicked out of a challenge. He tripped someone in a game with completely arbitrary rules on physicality.
to Russell. To not only find the Idol w/o any clues but to do it right in front of the whole tribe with them none the wiser.

Now watch Foa Foa win the immunity challenge next week and they send Russell over with the other tribe.
He then reads the same clue that Jasmine got and gets the other idol because its hidden up a tree in that
camp. Or heck, he doesn't even read the clue, figures it has to be in the same place and while noone in the
other tribe is looking or heck they could be just standing there like his tribe was and he gets the other idol. LOL!!
That would be awesome.

Re: Survivor: Samoa - 9/24/09
I know this isn't a popular sentiment here, but I've also been watching since Season 1, and I had exactly the same thought. I think I may have finally had my fill of "reality" shows where the rules are set up so that sociopaths, who are not constrained by normally positive human characteristics like empathy and honesty, are at a distinct advantage over others. Yes, they all know that going in, and I don't feel bad for the players being manipulated... I just feel like it eats away at my soul for the sake of "entertainment."
And for the inevitable parade of posters ready to tell me that "that's the point of the game," yeah, I know... by telling people they can do anything short of choking each other to give themselves a shot at a million bucks, this is what you get. I've always been interested in the human dynamic, and yet I'm almost always disappointed by how people act when told that "anything goes." And that crap people say about how "it's all just part of a game" is such a copout... for example, there's no way on earth that Russell isn't a manipulative a-hole in real life. When it comes that naturally to someone, you can't just turn it on for a game and then turn it off when you're done. (Just like Natalie on Big Brother--there's no way for her to take a breath without a lie coming out.) I guess I should just be glad The Amazing Race is back this week... at least it's a show where acting like a sociopath is more likely to work against you.

Survivor tends to bring out the worst in people. Lex was a total whiny dick on All Stars and he treated his real life friend, Ethan, like dog shit. But they are still friends in real life. I still think Boston Rob was the biggest asshole of all time on Survivor, yet he is successful and well liked post Survivor.

Last season everyone wanted Coach out, but Coach made the season memorable and interesting.
I love the fact that Russell has the immunity idol, if nothing else because it really pissed off the Russell haters. lol

I don't get all the Russell hate. Yea, he's a bit of an asshole, but he is making this season hilarious to watch. I rather watch him than the bitchy black girl.

For the folks complaining about Russell, how can you not say one thing about that disgusting Ben. It can be argued that Russell is just "playing the game" but Ben's obviously a seriously racist, trashy person. "Ketchup sandwiches and Kool-Aid"??
He's obnoxious, and thats really him, not just a game persona.
Having said that though what the HELL did Jasmin think she was there for? That was outrageous.

I didn't think I would like Russell at all, but finding the idol before it was even annouced was the most impressive move EVER! I know he is an a-hole, but I think I may start rooting for him, he certainly has an interesting strategy.
Yasmin needs to grow up. This is a game! You are going to have inter-gender match ups in some challenges, if you aren't cool with that don't play the game. I can't say that Ben's middle of the night bullshit was acceptable, but I do think he was totally in the right to not apologize to that dummy. If I were him I would have wished that I physcially took her out of the game during that challenge after that exchange.
I think it will be to Russell's advantage to keep Ben around as long as possible as I am sure later on he will be an easy scape goat voting target.
I can't say that I was sad to see Mike or Betsy go. I hate to see anyone removed due to injury and Mike may have had potential, but he really didn't seem like a key player and was most likely to be eliminated anyway (at least that's the way the edit made it seem).

Probst warned against choking and hands to the face, and then he tosses Ben for tripping. WTF?!?!?

Hate him all you want but Russell came to play and he's playing the game well so far. C'mon, finding the idol before it was announced? That is fucking impressive.
Right now, I hate Ben and Yasmin more than anyone else. 2 complete fucking idiots. Both are trash.

Anyone else, upon seeing Yasmin's behavior at the Foa Foa camp, immediately think that she was the one chosen to visit
1. To annoy the hell out of the Foa Foa tribe
AND
2. To get her the hell away from her tribe for at least a few hours so that they wouldn't be forced to kill her first ...
I was hoping that the Foa Foa members would return her to her tribe - bound & gagged. There was nothing in Jeff's instructions that prohibited that, was there???

Well, I'm surprised to say that I actually like Russell more now than I did last week. Finding the idol was huge, but more than anything, I think Russell looks better to me now because it's even easier to hate Ben. What an asshole!

I think Shambo deserves an idiot award. Seriously, has she never watched Survivor? The worst fucking thing you can do is go out with the spear and lose it. Then tells the tribe that the ocean is full of fish yet couldn't catch any. She just put herself at the top of the chopping block with such stupidity.

To me, having a "Ben" is one of the key strategies to a show constructed like this, and one it looks like Russell will employ: Foster and keep an obvious next out (Ben) around. Then each week, you go to an intended blind-sidee and say "Obviously tonight we're voting out Ben. He's such an ass," then go to the others and tell them "We need to get (blind-sidee) out this week, and then of course Ben next week." As long as there is a "Ben" around, you never move to the top of the target list and are able to maintain maneuvering room.

Re: Survivor: Samoa - 9/24/09
I'd love to see this on next week's episode, when the tribes get back together:
Jeff: "Uh ... Foa Foa? You cut off Yasmin's head, put it on a stick, and brought it to the challenge????? What were you thinking???"
Ben: "Well, Jeff, I've told everyone that I'm not afraid to be myself in this game. Those rules about not harming/murdering other contestants are for pussies ... like you."
Jeff: "Ben, I think you'll need to sit this next challenge out while we wait for the police to arrive ..."
Agree with a previous poster: Russell's got a bit of a Charles Manson vibe going. If Russell shows up in previews with a swastika tattooed between his eyes - and refers to the other members of the tribe as "my family" - this season could really be memorable ...

Russell didn't come off nearly as bad this week. Seemed more like just a regular villain. Finding the idol was brilliant. Compare that to Yasmine who had a clue (physical clue, she's clueless) and didn't even try because there were too many trees around. The guy who came off really bad this episode was Ben. I didn't even notice him last week and wondered about all the posts last week that were negative about him, but now I definitely get it. His "trip" looked a lot more like a kick to me. His tortured grammar in tribal council was hilarious after being the grammar police and berating Yasmine for supposed bad grammar.

When I first saw it (and because of Probst's reaction), I thought it was a kick. But after I rewound it and watched it again, I thought it was clearly a trip, rather than a kick.

Only problem I have with Russel is that he takes up 90% of the screen time. Hard to believe there's even another tribe out there, unless Shambo is doing something dumb in front of the cameras.
I highly doubt the immunity idols are hidden in similar ways between the tribes... otherwise , once someone gets one, they would probably get the second one right away.

The only 10 minutes they showed of her tribe was 2 minutes of Shambo losing the mask and 8 minutes of her WHINING CONSTANTLY

I think he just revels in being a character in front of the camera, like most of the people who audition for the show.
And the line "I think Jasmine is... pretty close to being... a hooker" made me laugh.
