Why did you lump TOS and TAS together? There are enough slots to poll them seperately.

Voyager is the series I watched every night in syndication the summer of 2002 when I was unemployed after college and searching for a job. That show has a little something special for me.

I would have to say this is the way I see these too. I think DS9 is WAY overrated. Sure it had an arc, but it was not done as well as some other Sci-fi shows I have seen. And I don't like the Captain at all - he overacts.

Though those TOS shows are so iconic shows to me (having seen every episode at least 6-8 times, more than any other show), TNG edges it out by a little.

While that's true, we're judging it based solely on the other Trek series- so it wins hands-down in that category.

I picked TNG. I find Picard to be one of the best characters (and best performances by an actor) in all the TV I've been exposed to. I never really understood why the writers made him French when he's just so damned British. The show took a while to find it's footing, but when it did, it was outstanding.

TOS is great, but I'm finding out with the blu-ray release that I've really only seen a few of them. I thought I was steeped in old Trek, but have to admit I grew up watching the movies (and TNG) more than anything else. Am enjoying the first season a lot, but some of it is very odd. Spock does a lot of smiling and smirking (and even made a weird, borderline sexually-harassing comment to Yeoman Rand) in these early episodes which throws me.

DS9- Never got into it. I'm intrigued by all the good stuff I've heard about it. Maybe someday.

VOY- Seen a few episodes but just never got into it.

ENT- Blew through most of the series on HDNET a few months ago. I think it's very underrated. And I even enjoy the earlier episodes that everybody trashes too. T'Pol episodes were great and really made me fascinated with Vulcans. I was also bummed out by the finale like everybody else. The show deserved better. I would love a feature or miniseries picking up where the show left off, ignoring the finale.

As far as individual eps. I'd go w/ TNG, some of the ones w/ Picard are some of the best sci-fi writing around (The Inner Light and Chain of Command pt2 come to mind off hand) and the whole Klingon subarc (w/ Worf's story and the civil war) was a lot of fun too. Overall I voted for DS9 though. I think as a whole it is the strongest of the series, and had the best overall story line. Plus as much as I hate time travel in ST (way way overused plot mechanism) Trials and Tribble-ations was a great eps. Beyond that it goes down hill pretty quick. I mean I loved TOS when it was out and I was watching, but there's only a couple of eps I can stand watching anymore. Voyager could have been the greatest if they had done it right (actually tracked how many shuttles they had, had more of a issue w/ finding resources and supplies, and esp kept the tension between the two crews instead of having everyone put on the starfleet uniform) but as it is it is on the bottom for me. Enterprise had some enjoyable eps but I think the whole Xindi season was a waste of time and the final eps seemed a bit rushed/hacked together to fit into the overall story line.

How is DS9 overrated?

It's considered a 'bastardized' Star Trek, or considered to not be Star Trek at all by most. Usually the more closed-minded fans who ironically refuse to accept any other concept of what Trek can be, despite the fact that one of the core messages of Trek is to embrace that very sense of diversity.

The latest big-screen version and all the flack it got from the more 'hardcore' fans is proof enough of that.

As for Avery Brooks, his 'overacting' is the result of his treating the role and show like theater, where he was accustomed to playing that larger than life kind of mindset. His theatrical nature usually won over.

The Borg Connection.

I'll always love TOS but I'd admit I think TNG is the better show.

Voyager was o.k., DS9 just got annoying, and never bothered with Enterprise (I hate Scott Crapula).

I figured TAS is only 22 episodes and calculated their time length combined to be about 13 TOS episodes, that people who would like this most likely also like TOS and would just vote that one more, plus some of the eps were reworked from what was planned for season 4 and i'm in the "TAS is season 4" camp.

My favorite is TNG.

I like the original characters better but TNG is hands down the best of all the series. It's not even a question.

Let me ask you guys: How would you rank the TOS seasons in order from best to worst? I'm really enjoying the first season of TOS; just curious to see where the quality will go from here. Something about this show has me captivated. It's not Shatner's acting, though! (And yet I really like him as Kirk. I'm not sure why.)

The third season has a bunch of shitty yet sort of inadvertantly comical episodes. Especially the stupid hippy episode. The first 2 seasons are pretty good.

Being a hippy, I would have to say they nailed it.

ToS is the best Star Trek.

I like TOS well enough. I've never seen any episodes of the others though, so my vote means nothing.

My questions to the ST experts:
Are they all considered canon?
What about the novels?
Who makes that decision?

DS9 -- decent show, but I liked it MUCH better when it was called 'Babylon 5'.

I barely watched enough VOY or ENT to rank them against each other; both seemed pretty shitty.

I'm sick of that show ALWAYS being brought up by someone who wants to tear DS9 down, as if that's the way to do it. I don't watch Babylon 5. I don't ever want to watch Babylon 5. That show and anything associated with it can shove it.
