I thought this was interesting. This dude is claiming the show is rigged, votes are not counted, and producers decide who is the winner.

I think the dude is just an attention whore. AI's longevity comes from the unpredictability of the show which makes it exciting. It would be pointless to try to fake unpredictability.

If record sales are the motive, why did Chris Daughtry get the boot, and a blues soul man win the thing? Daughtry is still top of the charts, and Taylor Hicks has fallen to indie label obscurity.

I think American Idol should be judged just like every other Karaoke Contest.... by audience applause.

He has no proof that the votes are not counted, his main complaint is that they influence the outcome and that he wasn't picked for the wildcard round even though the judges gave him good marks because he was a troublemaker. Of course they're going to influence the votes to get to their final 12 or 13, there have always been cases where people have had no screen time on the audition shows at all, and are supposed to beat out others that have had a ton of face time.

I don't see the shock here.

With all the teenie-bopper-girls redialing at light speed, it's a wonder how anyone who really deserves it can actually win. I can't count how many times decent folks were cut because of how they say, 'America Voted'.

As the Bus said, not suprising in the least. One of the most absurd shows ever conceived, unless you happen to be raking in the $$$$ from the lemmings who believe.

Doesn't this invalidate the idea that it's rigged? The producers really thought that a fat grey haired loved by grandmas type would sell better than a young good looking guy with a powerful rock voice? Really? Can I be a producer on American Idol then?

The producers deliberately backwards-rigged that season just to discredit the rumors.

Oh well I still don't buy it. They must of pulled the ol switcheroo when Fantasia won as well.

All these shows are rigged for maximum sensationalism to boost ratings. Sort of like the news media.

Who actually cares if it's rigged or not? I produce television for a living and I don't believe for one second that it's as straight up "the audience has voted" as they say it is.

I don't even think that we have the technology to count text message votes. I mean, who's coutning them? It's obviously not some uber computer (we're far off on that technology) so I'm guessing it's just some guy in a room. Yeah.. that seems likely

My guess is that cell phone providers are giving a truck load of money to Paula Abdul (we know she's the one that REALLY runs things) to get teens to pay a ton of money for text messages.

It's a TV show... of course it's rigged. Anybody that thinks these types of shows or any reality show for that matter isn't scripted or predetermined is well a _______! I have a friend who currently writes for Survivor. He started out as a writers assistant on Road Rules way back in the 90's. It isn't necessarily a scam, it's done to keep it entertaining otherwise no one would watch.

So exactly what does he write or script on Survivor? I remember Kentucky Joe from Australia talking about how real Survivor was.

It's almost like reverse writing. I think the writers go through all the footage and write out what the best story will be from week to week and then the show is edited around that.

These guys are taped pretty much all day so there needs to be a group of people that funnel through all the crap to get to the stuff that will interest people.

Isnt the outcome irrelevant? Everyone seems to get a contract regardless. But yeah, no crap its rigged...could have told you that 7 years ago.

I doubt the votes are tampered with, but of course the producers edit the show to favor certain contestants. Especially the earlier rounds.
