I'm sorry, there's just no way he's a "real" person. You don't go into the sixth season of a show, and not only not know how things work but openly defy them and then challenge the host to a duel for god's sake.
If it was a real confrontation, the SECOND he ripped off his jacket and started coming at Ramsay, crew members would have swarmed him, the camerawork would have gotten wonky, etc. And I don't really buy that there was a guy so bad there that they knew he'd get bounced immediately and lucky for them that Robert just happened to be in the dining room. I mean, I love this show, but goddamn these first two "big" events are totally scripted. Also, when he pulls off his jacket, if he was for real he would have thrown the jacket AT Ramsey and not just discard it to the side the way he did. As you say, no way the producers would allow this to happen and Ramsay looked much too laid back when Joseph was in his face. If I get an apparently psycho ex-marine making a beeline for my face, I'm looking for a knife; I'm not just going to stand there with a stupid look on my face. |
Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
I think we're all in agreement that this show is completely scripted. However, that was one of the best premiere episodes of the series.

So what was the deal with serving the shrimp cocktail because it didn't need to be cooked? Excuse me, shrimp in shrimp cocktail most certainly is cooked.
Van is already annoying me by constantly referencing himself by his own first name. The girls all suck. "Serving raw shrimp to a pregnant lady?" "I didn't know she was pregnant!" Um serving raw shrimp to someone NOT pregnant would have been okay? Joseph is supposed to be an ex-marine? Yeah, not. He's still be "sir"-ing at every turn and be loaded with more respect than this turd is capable of displaying.

IMO, Robert has no business being back on this show, especially with the serious medical condition he has being tied to his weight.

I am assuming that the entire restaurant is a set, because if it isn't, most people during the first challenge left without food and that doesn't seem feasible. It was funny how Robert was pumping up his ego during his little vignettes and he ended up just as bad as everyone else. Tennille as well. Both of them have taken on leadership roles of sorts and end up falling short.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
Where in blue hell do they get these people ?
Do they give all the show applicants a psych test and chose the LOWEST results ? Man i know they want some drama but cmon still who wont be watching next week to see what happens |
Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
Whilst i will continue to watch the show, the staged melodrama is getting just a bit too transparent
I mean cmon the men v women signature dish comes down to the last round. The shrimp cleaning test comes down to the last friggin shrimp ! Don't make it so obvious Gordon |
Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
Joseph was the epitome of psychotic. Whether or not it was scripted/fake, it was still great TV.
I was LMAO in the 1st hour when the camera kept going to Melinda with the dumb expressions on her face. It was great to see Gordon lose it and throw Louie out of HK and the show. 2nd hour was just as wacky and great. The whole JP confrontation looked really phoney to me. One thing that does bug the crap out of me with this show is how blatantly close each of these challenges are. I mean C'Mon.....44-43 on the shrimp challenge? It's like that every single season. I would love to see Heather (Ramsay's Sous Chef/Season 2 winner) speak up and ship the Red Team into shape. |
Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
You gotta admit, whilst Melinda was totally gormless and not even that attractive, you'd still want to bend her over and give it to her doggy. Something about her total cluelessness makes her quite sexy

Yes, the show is scripted and staged but holy crap if it isn't hilarious. I loved that premiere.. probably the best first ep in the history of the show. I also have to say I love the fact that one of their first tips when they showed up to HK is to make sure the stove is on.. then in the second dinner service, they actually tried cooking something with the stove off! |

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
It's even more obvious this season than ever that they're picking people based on personality, not cooking skills. Not that they ever really were, but this is an ecclectic mix to say the least. Lots of weirdos, all of them total morans. Should make for an interesting season, that's for sure.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
They should have bought back Ji from the last season. If Joesph is for real then he's a fucking idiot, why be on a show when you know you're going to be treated like a bitch.
|
Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
If Joseph isn't for real then I have to say this is one stunt that's in very poor taste. Making the ex-Marine into a raging psycho just for laughs would be a real slap in the face to those vets who do in fact have serious mental issues post-service. Since I do like this show I'm hoping that it's not a put on.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
I just saw a new commercial for Tuesday's episode, and the camera angles used this time shows producers or security or whatever running up to Gordon as that guy starts stomping to him. I mean I guess it could still be staged, but it looked more believable.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
I'm usually pretty good at recognizing the scripted parts of HK (the gay designer, some of JPs antics), and there is no doubt that the editing is very sensational, but I'm still on the fence with that idiot Joseph. He just might be a loose cannon, but who knows, he could be a plant.
Either way, that was one of the best season openers of HK ever. |
Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
We're now in the 6th season of the show, and we still have quite a few contestants who seemingly have never seen the show before.
If Joseph had seen even one episode of Hell's Kitchen, he would never have signed up, because it would have been clear to him that he wouldn't have been able to handle Ramsay. |

"These scallops are raw!" "Not as raw as your ASS after I beat it down, BITCH!" |
Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
The show is getting way too over the top for my liking. It seems like a movie where Ramsay took all of these convicts from a halfway house but eventually will win them all over with his tough love and they all will live happily ever after.

It's a matter of hours until we find out what really happened.... ;)

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 7/21/09
Isn't Gordon former SAS or something? I remember reading something about that (if not SAS, some sort of British Special Forces).
