Bryan Fuller leaves HEROES ...again

This doesn't bode well for the coming season ....

"This just in: Bryan Fuller exits 'Heroes'
Jun 22, 2009, 04:50 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Just as Heroes was gaining some creative momentum comes word of another setback: Bryan Fuller has vacated his post as consulting producer.

The acclaimed Pushing Daisies auteur tells me that he left to focus on developing new projects for NBC, and not (as some have speculated) due to creative differences with series creator Tim Kring.

"I'm crafting two pilots right now and it's a lot of work," admits Fuller, who has an overall deal with NBC. "It was just too hard to [juggle] Heroes and my development; something had to give."

Fuller's exit was first reported by Herc at Ain't It Cool News.

Fuller returned to Heroes last December, shortly after ABC dropped the ax on Daisies. Many (yours truly included) credited him with the show's end-of-season creative rebirth.
"

Can they survive another season?

Well, I may drop this series for good now. I stuck with them through the good, the bad and the ugly...but finally got hope again once the Bryan Fuller episodes aired at the end of the season. The direction and writing was clearly improved (though still flawed, it was MUCH better).

Without him on board, I see this show going down the drain again. Really, with only so many hours in my day, I just don't think it'll be worth my time anymore.

I'm afraid I may have to agree with you. I thought Fuller was going to develop a new show AND do Heroes. That he decided to dump that and try for a second series for NBC is just silly. I mean it IS NBC after all.

I think everyone needs to stop thinking of Fuller as the all-mighty savior of Heroes. The show is such a mess and even the episodes he worked on after he came back sucked.

Let him create something new and interesting and let this show die...

It's not like he did any better with ABC either.

Fuller gave us exactly one good episode once he came back, the rest was just the same dreck we'd seen though out the season.

Re: Bryan Fuller leaves HEROES ...again

I have 16 episodes sitting on my tivo waiting to be watched and I just can't work up the interest to invest the time. Rerun's of Top Gear and Dirty Jobs usually trump Heroes.

Yeah let him create two great, new shows that end up getting cancelled like Pushing Daisies!

I don't think Fuller leaving will make a bit of difference. Everyone was all stoked to see him back and I swear the show got worse.

What he said. That one episode got me excited, and then the next two were crap again and I gave up on the show and stopped watching.

I never once bought into that hype wagon. So I was not surprised that the final few episodes of season 3 weren't magically better by his presence. He may be talented, but no one is that good.

Re: Bryan Fuller leaves HEROES ...again

Everybody praised the episode he wrote, but who knows what happened with the rest of the episodes after that. He was just a "consulting producer" so maybe Kring didn't like the direction Bryan was taking the show and put a stop to it. Kring did write the finale and it was pretty bad. I would like to see Bryan take full control of the show and hand pick the writers, then see what happens. But I guess that won't happen.

Well I don't even know if I watched any of the Fuller episodes. I bailed sometime in the current season, and have not looked back.

Yeah, I didn't notice any great return in quality at the end of the season.

Right. The word going around is that Kring wouldn't let Fuller do his job. I think it's pretty reasonable that Fuller would rather succeed or fail on his own terms rather than be doomed to failure on someone else's. I don't know if Heroes is salvageable at this point.

This was me a month ago. I decided it was done for me and deleted them.

I agree with this. He was really only a major part of the Claire/HRG stories in season one as I understand it, anyway. He was a part of the show being good at first, but he wasn't the driving force. I attribute the initial success to just how easily somebody can build a promising start for a show when riffing on a mutant comic remix cocktail. The bitch is continuing that story for the long haul.

They weren't great, but they were distinctly improved from the shows before his return. At least they had coherent storylines and the direction was more dramatic. I mean, you could actually tell which episode started with Fuller again--it was THAT different.

But, yes, I agree that it still wasn't a great. And I also agree that it's time for it to be put out of its misery.

Well, S4 may survive the loss of Fuller, because according to Greg Grunberg's twitter:

And BTW, the scripts for Season 4 & the stories we're about to tell will ROCK YOUR WORLD. BEST. SEASON. EVER. Get ready!!

Are they re-making season 1 without Mohinder?
