Late Night Talk Show Battle

Re: Late Night Talk Show Battle
I personally think the poll should be split...Leno, Letterman, and Conan are all in their own group, IMHO. Fallon, Kimmel, Ferguson are in another group. Carson Daly...well, who the hell cares?
For the big three, I'd pick Leno for his monologue and Conan for his comedy bits and Letterman for his interviews. I guess if I had to pick ONE...I'd guess I'd go with Conan for right now. We will see if Leno can improve in his new show.
For the minor three, I would pick Kimmel every time. Though I think that his show hasn't been the same since the writer's strike. The promos after Nightline weren't commercials back then and after the monologue they did a lot of funny bits that were really good. Now, his promos for the shows are commercials and a lot of the skits and comedy bits they used to do are cut to go right to the first guest.
If I was to pick ONE out of all of them, I would go with Kimmel, but would hope that he could get higher ratings so they could afford to do away with the live commercials and get back to the better comedy bits they used to do. Out of all of them, he is my favorite interviewer.

Conan
(Although my 1st choice would be The Daily Show / Colbert Report "Power Hour" if that 60-minute block was on here.)

I learned much about humor from David Letterman over the years, and while I have tremendous affection and respect for both he and Conan, I confess that it's Craig Ferguson my wife and I have found ourselves enjoying the most in the last year. Dave seems to be increasingly detached from his guests, as though he has no interest in even pretending to know or care why they were booked. Conan has always been consistent, though, and it really just comes down to the fact that Ferguson makes us laugh more. I can't articulate it more than that.

Conan by far even though the new show has been a little rough. Letterman is a close second, mainly because he is angry, bitter and visibly hates 90% of his guests, which I think is hilarious. I like Kimmel. Leno is ridiculously unfunny. I'm glad he's gone. Ferguson doesn't interest me in the least. Jimmy Fallon is just awkward and shitty.

No one has to choose one. With dual-tuner DVRs, hulu and most networks sites breaking up shows into segments (guests, monologues, etc.), it's very easy to watch only what you want. That could be multiple shows from one night or just one segment from one show.

I'll stick with Letterman. He has more than his share of unfunny moments, but when he has the right guest on, like Julia Roberts or Bruce Willis, their rapport is amazing to watch.

To me, it all depends on the guests. I love Ferguson and I find that he is usually best with his guests, but I usually ff those skits that he does (they could be hilarious, but they are just a turnoff to me). Letterman is just too mean spirited for my liking. I can't stand either of the Jimmys, but I do like Conan. If I had to just pick one, I'd have to go with Ferguson.

it's a tie between Kimmel and Conan for me. I put my vote in for Kimmel because I assumed he'd have far less votes... and I was right.

I love how Leno is getting trounced, yet he has been #1 in the ratings for the past 14 years. Maybe this poll is a bit skewed by Conan fanboys on the internet, and proves my point that the Conan love seems to be only online

Which is true. I don't think people who watch Leno really post online all that much.

But then, my favorite late night series was The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder. And I watched Jon Stewart's late night run, too. I'll never forget one of his remarks from his last episode: "And to all those who said this show wouldn't last...good call!"

Well Leno appeals more to the older crowd I would think and I'm guessing there aren't as many older folks who are posting online about how great he is. Conan is definitely geared more towards the 18-40s crowd which probably use message boards and such more.

My problem with Leno's show was the stuff he did after the monologue was usually remarkably unfunny. I think a good portion of his monologue was actually quite funny (and I don't think he did that many sex jokes about celebs...he knew his audience was a bit more reserved/middle America) but stuff like Jaywalking, Pumpcasting, his version of Celebrity Jeopardy and the sort were always horrific to watch. The only thing he did on a regular basis I liked to watch all the time was Headlines.

All right, out of 136 votes so far, there are none for Carson Daly, but somebody voted for Jimmy Fallon. Who was it?
There's one thing I actually like about Fallon's show. I like the stage where the bands play, with the people close around it.

I voted Craig Ferguson. But Conan is a close 2nd.
My nightly routine, pre Leno vs. Conan, was to watch Conan then switch to Craig, It was perfect. I would also flip between Coco and Letterman.

This poll shows me why Leno will be on top of the ratings once he takes over again. IMO, most people really don't follow the Late Night Gossip that has been going on in the last few weeks, and really don't care about the fighting between Conan/Zucker/Leno. In the end, people will watch the show they are loyal to. Leno truimphs everyone in the ratings, and isn't winning this poll, so it shows that we are all a minority out there who are following this blow by blow.
