It's funny but looking at some clips of Carson (been seeing it all around with Ed McMahon's death), I just realized that Conan is closer in terms of comedy to Carson than Leno. Don't know why, just found that interesting. Conan's comedy can be more risque vs. Carson but they are similar.
I didn't watch Leno all that much outside of Mondays for "Headlines", but did he ever get his guests in on a gag (like Tom Hanks being hit by a boulder or w/e it was)?

Most of Leno's skits occured during the opening, so he rarely if ever got a guest involved with a gag.

Has Conan mentioned anything about the Super Mario Brothers inspired background yet? Or is that just a weird coincidence?

Seeing the Ed McMahon clips they showed last night made me realize again how much Conan needs to move Andy over to the couch.
Or as Johnny Carson's former head writer put it: "All these guys [Conan, Dave, Jay, etc.] all go on and on about how much they admired Johnny and follow in his footsteps...but they all think they can do that kind of a show without an Ed McMahon. Johnny knew how much it adds to have someone to talk to, someone who can function as a good straight man. He would never have done his show without Ed."

Anyone see Ferguson last night? I thought that the Ferguson interview with Jim Parsons of Big Bang Theory last night was great. Parsons seems uncannily like Sheldon, and Ferguson was able to use that well last night. He even bumped poor ol' James Frey to Friday's show (which was obviously taped last night, based on comments).

I didn't care much for the paparazzi bit. I haven't found them funny so far.
Andy and the chair was great. I'm also intrigued to try one out.

I'm a huge fan of all talk show animal segments but this one seemed very rushed. I know Conan had mentioned the time issues and the Zebra bit was a great way to salvage things.
However, the guy wasn't very good at getting info out in between the host's jokes. And yeah, I know these have never really been about getting animal facts out as much as they've been about seeing the host in a weird situations, but still. Even the great, but goofy, Jack Hannah manages to get out plenty of info while Dave Letterman is screaming like a school girl.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!
Conan's nervous clap during the monologue should go. I'm surprised he hasnt shaken that habit or been asked to get rid of that habit yet.
Surprised that the only thing Andy does is make that bad cackling laugh. Bring him to the couch.
Dont get me wrong, I love Conan, but there's no way NBC would have dumped Jay if it wasnt for the 20 million pay or play deal with Conan. The suits obviously thought that Jay would have run out of creative and ratings steam by 2009 when they did the deal in 2004.

i find the bit where conan shreds the jokes that either don't work or in poor taste to be funny.

I really tried to give Conan a chance last night, but I couldn't get through the monologue. God he just isn't funny!!!! Does he have to act like a buffoon after every joke??

That used to bug me the most about Conan going back several years. It's like can't you dial it down a notch or 2 dude? But I get that this spastic goof bit is what appeals to many so I just deal with it.
