I'd like to see a future edition where they put all the "celebrity chefs" to the test: Gordon Ramsay, Emeril Lagassie, Rachael Ray, Rocco DiSpirito, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Paula Deen, and so on. I'd be curious how some of them worked with the curveballs and pressures.

Well Besh certainly bombed in spectacular fashion.
I wonder if his oven was defective because I find it hard to believe a chef of his stature couldn't get an egg cooked on time. It was probably unfair that he helped Anita during the egg challenge. He basically gave her a second hand by holding her egg while she pierced off the top. Also, Neil Patrick Harris is a douche!

You can most likely take Bobby and Mario off this list since both are on Iron Chef. To make the meals they make in an hour on that show they definitely have dealt with pressure dealing with time and "curveballs" depending on what ingredient they have to deal with. Now the rest of those chefs mentioned I would definitely like to see how they would do. For sure Gordon would be a riot probably as they might have to have the censor going crazy with the dump button on that show.

Just finished watching this tonight.
I had a very small issue with the segment with the people from Lost. Why the hell didn't they put up a graphic to identify who the hell the people from Lost were?
I only recognized Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse because I've seen them from interview segment from the DVD's I own. I had no clue who the hell anyone else was.

Last night's cast was one of the best. I would have been happy for any of the 4 to win.
Chiarello and Moonen had the most personality, Nils was an artist with his food, incredible plating.
Lachlan was probably the weakest, and might have been overwhelmed by the competition some?
I think this was my fave episode, and I'm looking forward to the last one next week, and then the final 6..

Would have liked to see local boy Lachlan do better.
No question that they would be better prepared because of Iron Chef, but the "secret ingredient" is not as big a mystery as you might think. They are told 3 possible secret ingredients ahead of time, and plan 3 different menus. The show is given 3 different shopping lists to buy based upon which ingredient it is. When the chefs arrive the day of the battle, they can tell what the secret ingredient is by what other ingredients have been purchased. Sure, they have to cook it all in one hour, but they're not surprised when the cover on the ingredient is lifted.

Really liked last night's episode.
I was hoping Rick would make a comeback from having 0 stars.
Really liked Michael. I'm not familiar with his past, but they mentioned that he was a TV Chef before going back to the restaurant business. Anyone familiar with his past?
Whole Foods is getting really rich off Top Chef. $4,000 in sales from the elimination challenge is alot of money.

sf.eater.com has some articles on him, more than ny.eater as he's local to here now
Since founding Tra Vigne in the '80s, Chiarello has become one of the better known celebrity chefs in the country, with his two television shows (Easy Entertaining on Food Network, NapaStyle on Fine Living) and his Napastyle cookware store in Berkeley. He lives on his St. Helena vineyard with his family, a short drive up Highway 29 from Yountville, so it seems logical that he'll be fairly involved in the day-to-day at his new restaurant.

Moonen is a dead-ringer for Leonard Nimoy. He could play his younger brother. I found him very likeable, although I wondered why he didn't just throw his food on the plate while the host walked in and called time. Looks like it was coming out of the fryer, maybe would not have had all the accoutrements but still better than an empty plate. Still, it was amazing he was able to make such a great comeback from having zero stars in QF.

I like this show but it's getting to predictable, it seems to be whoever gets the most stars during the quick fire wins. So if you score low in the quick fire your screwed.

Re: Top Chef Masters
My thoughts exactly. Like I said a while back, the star system makes it so anticlimactic. Of course, it could turn out differently at some point, where the quickfire winner totally shits the bed in the main challenge, but it hasn't happened much if at all yet.

Re: Top Chef Masters
Now that's a new one on me, what I have heard and it was from a behind the scenes show for them was that they film the reveal about 15 minutes or so before they actually do it for "real". So in essence they are at least given a head's up and can start thinking in their minds what they might prepare. By chance did they mention what you state above on that show as well and I just did not see that part or that was somewhere else?
Here's one quote:
Although the secret ingredient isn’t officially unveiled until we start taping, it’s easy to figure it out about an hour beforehand. The ingredients are laid out behind the scenes, in the prep kitchen. Once you see which of your shopping lists has been purchased, you know everything.

Re: Top Chef Masters
Not only that but the people who bomb on the quickfire seem to do the best at the real challenge. Which is unfortunate because they have very little chance of winning.

Interesting challenge last night.
And quite the camaraderie between the chefs, as there was no sabotage involved.
I was sleepy watching it and in this ep I didn't really mind who won.

I really liked this episode.
The guys were so nice and professional.
I was shocked that Art made such a huge comeback in the final challenge. I thought Michael pretty much had it locked up.
It was also cool to see the genuine respect and admiration that Michael and Jonathan had for each other.
I thought it was also funny to see how clueless Roy was shopping in Whole Foods.
Really looking forward to the champions round. There is some great competition.

I was disappointed that the result this week was fixed and they pushed through Oprah's chef. Does she own part of Bravo?
Anyway there was a disclaimer at the end of the show, never been there before, that said:
" Winning and elimination decisions were made by the Judges in consultation with the producers. Some elimination decisions were discussed with Bravo"
Michael I believe won, especially hearing their comments, but they decided to push through the personal chef of Oprah. Pretty sad.
