Spectacular episode! Glued to the set during the whole thing. Definitely had a "finale" vibe to it. Next week should be terrific also, but I hope it doesn't disappoint after this one.

TK, I came in here specifically to make the same comment. I'm glad others agree.
During that scene last night when he's struggling to hide the truth about Chuck from his wife-to-be, I turned to my brother and said, "Wow, that guy's really got acting chops." At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I think he may be the best actor on this show.
And if Chuck has to go, I think last night's ep and the wedding ep next week should make for a pretty awesome finale.

I think it would have been very, very easy for the writers to make Awesome in to a stereotypical meathead. And a lesser actor wouldn't have received material to make Awesome into a guy who can actually tolerate Morgan, Jeff, Lester and Chuck. I've really enjoyed watching him, and I hope some of the rumors that he may be up for Captain America are true.

I was pissed when they canceled The Black Donnelly's.
I was pissed when they canceled Studio 60.
I will never watch an NBC show EVER again if they cancel Chuck. Never. And if I go back on this and you catch me posting in an NBC show thread I give mods full authorization to suspend my membership.
All Law & Orders will be removed from my season pass.
No more 30 Rock.
No Conan. No Today Show.
I will actually delete the channel from my Tivo so it is skipped on my guide and when I switch channels.

NBC does have a history of doing that with my favorites (not giving them too much of shot; though Ed did get (almost) 3 seasons, I believe). If they drop Chuck, I too will forget about all the other NBC shows I watch: SVU, FNL, Earl, and anything else that slips my mind right now.
(Signed the petition. Hope it actually means something.)

Kinda tells you in no uncertain terms how much they value this show's viewing audience. We sat down at about 10:30pm, really excited to queue this epsiode up. Totally freaked when it wasn't there. Thankfully, Tivo "found" it at 3:04am and we got to watch it tonight.
Chuck is probably my favorite show on tv right now. I can't wait to watch it each week. Of course, I also loved Studio 60. It really is getting to the point where I don't want to invest my time in a show, for fear of it being cancelled. I'm still pissed about "Dirty, Sexy, Money" and now I'll likely lose "Chuck," "Medium," and "Sarah Connor" after this season. With "ER" having run its course, I'll have a lot of time for the huge stack of movies still in their original shrinkwrap in my collection.

I love Chuck as much as the next guy, but why should NBC lose money on a show every week just so people who don't matter to advertising revenue have something to watch? Seems very strange to me.
Anyway, loved this episode. Glad that Chuck finally got to make his move on Sarah (and did it well) and I liked that Casey was just hurt that he hadn't been asked to be a part of it (a fair point).
I will say that, with the Intersect gone, I'm not sure what they would be able to do to keep Chuck involved with the CIA. Initially, I thought that Orion had programmed an uber-Intersect for Chuck to turn him into a super spy. Like he wouldn't even know what he could do until he was faced with the situation. This is a nice change too, but I'm concerned about how "forced" it might feel to keep him in the loop with Sarah and Casey.
And I 100% agree with the praise of Devon - I've always appreciated the respect they've given that character.

Don't get me wrong, I love this show just as much as all of you. But, I am not blinded by my fandom of the show.

People, its a tv show. It has a first episode and a last. Another great show will come along and it will become your favorite. It's important enough for me to post on TVTalk, but why on earth would you say something like "I am never going to watch another NBC show". I hear this every season and I just don't get it. That being said, I love this show and if not renewed, will miss it ... till I find a replacement.
As been said, this episode felt like a finale. I am happy with that. Next episode will probably have a nice cliff hanger for its potential third season.
That shot of Sarah in her ppppppanties makes me tingle.

I've never made such hyperbolic statements before, and it probably won't accomplish anything, but I will cancel all my NBC season passes. Keep in mind this is the same network that stuck with Cheers & Seinfeld for multiple years before they finally took off.
I loved all of the shows above, but for some reason Chuck has struck a nerve. I'm not sure how I feel about the possibility of CW picking it up. It sounds great, but I get the feeling the execs would want to tamper with the formula to fit their demographic.

It's not about one favorite show being canceled. This is just the catalyst for all the Firefly's, Freaks & Geeks, Sport's Night's, and Arrested Development's of the past decade. The Neilson families that keep watching reality shows instead of quality programming are to blame. I'm just tired of it.

Basically, if a new show doesn't hit the ground running and make money...and a lot of it, immediately it won't be around. There are always exceptions. Sarah Conner never had strong numbers and frankly didn't "deserve" a second season but FOX stayed with it.
Like others have said, it all comes down to money. Networks simply won't stick with a show if it believes something else in its timeslot will get more viewers and/or make more money. And everybody has to remember that reality shows are cheap. The networks don't need as many viewers for a reality show to break even or make money because the costs to produce a reality show isn't as high.

Not sure I see your point. I watch very little network TV at all, and everything I *do* watch happens to come on Monday nights. Of course that affects the ratings. This is one of those shows that has a huge following, regardless of what the ratings show, which tells me the ratings don't really reflect the popularity this show has. If NBC is too dumb to see that, I don't need to watch their shows. They could easily give Chuck one more season on a different night and see how that goes.

Totally awesome episode. This show and Supernatural are by far my favorite shows right now. Really really hope Chuck comes back next season.

Same goes for Nielsen. In an age of the internet, DVRs, iTunes, DVD sales, etc. there should be a better way of tracking what shows people are watching by now.

Find other avenues to generate income. They've already set a standard with Friday Night Lights. Who knows what they make on Hulu or NBC.com. I'm not a highly paid executive, they are the ones that should be thinking outside of the box, not us. All the networks are in a 50 year old rut, you would think by now someone would have come up with something better than an outdated model.

The entire industry has to change.

I am not sure how profitable this has been for Fox, but the limited commercial run with more exclusivity for advertisers could be a better option. Big companies would be charged more, but if their ad is the only one in a 60 second commercial break, people are less likely to tune out and just ride it out. Therefore the message is getting through.

The problem with Itunes and DVD sales is that they are absolutely meaningless to the networks. All the profits go to the studio, in this case Warner Brothers, who produces the show and not NBC.
I'm not sure how much money Hulu or NBC.com generates for them, but as far as I know they rely heavily on the initial airings to generate income to profit from the show. And it certainly doesn't help that Chuck is serialized and networks don't re-air serialized shows.
I read somewhere that an episode of CSI actually needs to air 2-3 times before CBS makes a profit from it.

I doubt NBC is losing money on this show. They just don't feel like they are making enough money. They are like that guy you know who thinks they are better looking than they are so they dump their cute girlfriend who is a catch to try and go after the head cheerleader.
The face of network TV has changed and it's like NBC won't admit it to themselves. You don't need every show to have 15m viewers. It just doesn't happen like that anymore.
Chuck gives NBC a loyal following that replacing it won't guarantee.

Good point, but still DVDs & iTunes sales generate moeny, so you know people are watching. There should be some kind of co-operation on the network and production company in determining who earns what. The production company won't be making any money on DVD sales if there is no show on network TV. Kind of a chicken and egg situation. It is better for both companies to nurture a show so that they both make money.
