Nice to see Phoenix getting some exposure. Great pop rock band.

Also, I cannot wait to check out the commentary next week after many people are exposed to Animal Collective for the first time. LOLZ

except for Abby Elliot bringing back her Angelina Jolie bit and feuding with Madonna about babies, this episode is horrible. that Grease skit and that country song skit were just plain terrible and a waste of Seth Rogen.

I'd never heard of them before tonight, but I absolutely loved all two-and-a-half songs they played and I just preordered Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Do their other albums sound like this too? Any recommendations on where to start?

Animal Collective is one of those bands I've heard of but don't really know too much about (I've checked out a few of their songs on YouTube, but haven't heard anything that i liked enough to make me call myself a fan). Still, I'm looking forward to hearing them on SNL.

Really? I think the Angelina Jolie bit is tired tired tired. And of course, Andy Sanberg doing Cathy AGAIN! That comic book sketch was o.k. But too close to the out of work Broadway show performers skit a few weeks back. Anyway, the first half of the show was actually pretty decent. But it went south FAST after "Weekend Update". Such as the skit where Seth Rogen's character somehow got the song "You're the One That I Want" mixed up on that corporate disc. And then, that God awful Grand Ole' Opry skit with Clancy T. Bachleratt and Jackie Snad. It just went on and on and fucking on. Not funny for one second. And last, that Muppet skit? Crickets.

I've also never heard of Phoenix before. But I will definitely check them out. They were great!

I would start with their last one, It's Never Been Like That. The albums before that have a more pop/electronic sound. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is really good too.

Edit: The last song they did, "Too Young," is from their first album.

For Phoenix, get "Its Never Been Like That" which is in my opinion, the best pop rock album of the last 10 years. Go on youtube and check out their videos for "Long Distance Call" and "Conselation Prizes".

As far as Animal Collective goes, They are one of the most innovative bands out there that are on the fringe of the mainstream. Each album sounds completely different from their last. To get a feel for what their sound is "currently" like, check out the "My Girls" and "Brothersport" videos on youtube. I really cannot wait to catch them next week. They are one of my favorite bands going they are very challenging to get into. That said, their newer album is probably their most accessable.

Re: SNL 04/04/09 - H: Seth Rogen - MG: Phoenix

that God awful Grand Ole' Opry skit with Clancy T. Bachleratt and Jackie Snad
it sucked but the ending where Forte was singing at the top his lungs and going into hysterics on the final notes were hilarious.

I like the sketch where they did different voices on their cellphones like gizmo and the Scottish accent.

the milestone high sketch was ok but the opening was funny where the narrator explained "He was going through some stuff" after apologizing for the step by step marathon on ABC Family was funny.

the rest of the show was dull.

No U2, Springsteen, Prince, or maybe Depeche Mode for the musical guests for the final shows of the season?

I don't think SNL has had great musical guests since the 2004-2005 season.

Fixed.

Much to the disappointment of some here.

I caught the Digital Short and the Save the Comic Strip sketches. Didn't look goof.... fell asleep after that.

For some unknown reason, I like those Vinny Vedecci skits and I liked this one with Rogen. The Muppets skit was good but everything else was forgettable.

AICN has Justin Timberlake hosting the show on 05/09/09.

I could not disagree more. I think there were at least half a dozen great guests this season alone (including this week's).

I can't wait for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Not!!!!

they had 3 weeks to write and prep for this show and it should have been a lot better.

None of Seth Rogans 2 SNL shows have been that memorable.

He was more funny in 1 minute on the Daily Show compared to this episode.
