I don't know about that. I think the island clearly has an interest in not doing anything that would alter the course of events, unless altering the course of events was the explicit reason they had to come back. Still, you'd think that would lead to a pretty quick end to the show. Bang, Ben's dead, Oceanic doesn't crash, the end.

WTF?
Another great episode, and I can't wait to see how they are going to fix this apparent contradiction. Of course there are plenty of time-travel theorems that could easily accommodate a person being killed in the past still existing in a future, but it doesn't gel with island mythology as we know it as this point.
I feel sorry for the millions of people who stopped watching LOST - this is the best season since the first one, and possibly even better.

I forgot about old Ben still on the island in 2008...still that aspect to deal with. What a time paradox!

While Ben didn't cause the plane to crash, it could be argued that by having never taken over the Dharma Initiative, Desmond would never have been in the hatch at the time the button had to be pressed and the plane wouldn't have crashed...at least it wouldn't have crashed that way. It could have crashed in some other way thanks to the whole issue of destiny with Locke having to be there on the island.
This is why I stopped reading these LOST threads....too much to dwell on, too much to factor in, too much to think about period!

I am not saying that's what I think will happen, but IF it happened, I think the Internet would crash with all the traffic of people complaining about it!

I don't know how this show will deal with a paradox but if 77Ben stays dead then 08Ben should die and everything he did never happened including getting captured as Henry, moving the island and helping the O6 get back to 77. The next episode really must have Daniel in it to help explain the show's paradox theories. Ben was shot clear in the chest. I thought it was interesting enough that Sayid was the person who would lead him to the Hostiles' camp. Maybe Richard will find Ben and heal him. Or Jacob...

Are you talking about when Locke found him and told the guy "He is the one who killed me?" If so, then he was only knocked out from Sun who used the oar on the beach.

Its nice of 'Larry' to guest star, but I was hoping 'Daryl' and his other brother 'Daryl' would make a cameo.
I cant see how young Ben could be dead. Everything would go completely topsy turvy.
Also, How many of those blue vans did Dharma have?

First off: My head exploded. My heart raced. This show is INSANE! In a good way of course.
This episode was amazing and the ending was one of the best and strongest of the entire series. Great episode.
Secondly, I bet Ben lives as a kid. He will grow up having known various Losties and will find out that they are from the future and will patiently wait for them to end up on the island. He knew them all along, and when he found out about them being from Oceanic Flight 815 he will live knowing what passengers were on the plane when it originally crashed on the island. That is also why he was so quick to have a plan in the scene at the beginning of Season 3 -- because he was expecting a plane to someday crash. All this time he has kept quiet about knowing that these "Past" events have already played out.
I can't wait to see next's week's episode! The rest of this season should be amazing!

It would be the most controversial series finale ever (after St. Elsewhere, and maybe even the Sopranos) if they corrected the course so the plane never crashed and therefore the Losties turn out to never have known each other at all. And everybody would be where they were before, but happy.
I am not saying that's what I think will happen, but IF it happened, I think the Internet would crash with all the traffic of people complaining about it!
