I liked the Patterson and Jolie thing on WU, and the women pining for Steve Martin, but aside from that, it was abysmal. I honestly think that a handful of random people could have written better material for this show than what was aired.

Here's the MacGruber "Sketch" that was shown during the Super Bowl

Remember when Tina Fey was head writer and everyone wanted her head on a pike? Now she is hailed as a genius.

And here's why--
I like the prospect for male vs female interplay that she and Meyers could have.
She's 38 years old and she has an unimpressive acting resume, yet she just joined the cast of SNL --she must be really funny in person.
Her only comic moment of note has been playing Arianna Huffington, so maybe spoofing news and politics is up her alley.
She can put on nerd glasses and remind us of the good ole days with Tina Fey.

Bill Hader would be good on Weekend Update if he replaced Seth Meyers but if Seth Meyers stays Casey Wilson should be the co-host.
Bill Hader is getting a lot of movie work especially working with the Seth Rogan ensemble and I hope he does not leave the show if he breaks out and becomes a big movie star.
He started in 1995 but in my mind it would be too early to leave.

I like Hader a lot too and wish he got more to do. I'm not sure if he can become a big movie star as his characters are pretty oddball. I'd hate to see him become a bland everyman leading man like Jim Carrey has become.

All the more reason to fire Seth: maybe we'll have a second instant classic sitcom to look forward to instead.

Okay. See, what confused me was that I didn't understand that "everyone" meant some internet malcontents.

My thought is that Tina Fey just works much, much better when she's not 'working on the fly' and has time to craft her ideas. I know that's generally a given but for her the discrepancy seems quite noticeable.

I often wonder if Head Writer is simply a title only, with no real say on the creative direction of the show - Tina Fey may have been the diamond inside the turd. This seems to be borne out by the fact that Tina has not misstepped comedically since leaving SNL, while that show's writing continues to stink up the place.

I haven't watch SNL in ages, but thought I'd catch this since Steve Martin was on. Wow! Talk about NOT funny. Every single sketch seemed to crash and burn within minutes. I'm really surprised this show lasts like it does. Too bad, too, because I think it could be a great show.

IMO, the best part of the show was seeing/hearing Colbie Caillat...and I now post this picture in honor of her deliciousness.
