The series is building to a close...

http://starwars.com/news/a-new-direc...animation.html

A New Direction for Lucasfilm Animation

As we enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming. You can expect more details in the months to come.

As part of this shift, we have also made some key decisions affecting Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours.

After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we're continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content. In the video below, Supervising Director Dave Filoni offers a peek of what is to come in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

At Star Wars Celebration VI last year, George Lucas gave fans a glimpse at the animated comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes. Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense. As a result, we've decided to postpone the release of Detours until a later date.

We are incredibly proud of the teams at Lucasfilm Animation for creating some of the most amazing animation ever produced for TV. Keep checking StarWars.com for new developments on these and future projects.

Meh, I'm fine with that. I had thought this was the last season anyway. Five seasons is enough. I wasn't really a fan of the show, just a few good episodes here and there.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Season 4

To me it sounds like they'll maybe do a short season 6 to wrap it all up. I guess it will have to air on Disney.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Season 4

Also saw that Star Detours with Seth Green was delayed. Not sure if anyone cares about that.

Seems like they're thinking about a new cartoon set between eps III and IV.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Season 4

Shame to hear but it's something that being part of the Star Wars universe has to come to end sometime.

I've watched Season 1 and just finished Season 2 (Blu-ray) and really was impressed with the overall sets. Besides great animation, visuals and sound the wealth in the extras in how they came up with characters, 2&3D art, test runs, concept art and interviews is some of the best I've seen in any sets period. I'm glad I just ordered Season 3 & 4 and have no plans on cutting them loose now.

resinrats 03-11-13 02:49 PM

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Season 4

I don't think they'll cut Season 6 short. I guess it depends how far along they are. You figure they will start showing them in the fall so they've been working on episodes for over a year now. They might even have all S6 in development so unless they want to throw away work, the winding down part will be with episodes going beyond that. I could see a full Season 6 then a Season 7 as the final year to wrap things up. Figure Season 6 will air until spring 2014 and Season 7 would end in spring 2015. Then Episode 7 later that year. A nice way to keep Star Wars in the public eye until then.

dex14 03-11-13 05:32 PM

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Season 4

Apparently these may not even air on TV, since CN won't be airing them after this year... It could be streamed online or a direct to DVD release.

I have no idea why anyone thought differently, Disney wants their own Star Wars shows and never had much intention to keep this show around. They did the same thing to Marvel's shows when that company got bought out.

So Dave Filoni announced that all the episodes from Season 6 are finished and will be released somehow early next year. Several sites are reporting that there are 22 episodes which is actually more than Season 5.

Germany is apparently getting first crack at Season 6, with German network Super RTL set to premiere it on February 15.

Season 6 is apparently an abbreviated 13 episodes long.

Meanwhile, the Darth Maul storyline from the show will be finished off as a comic from Dark Horse:

Sixth & Final Season Of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ To Stream On Netflix

After resurrecting The Killing for a final season after its cancellation by AMC, Netflix is doing the same for Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The streaming service will debut a 13-episode sixth and final installment of the animated series on March 7. Titled The Lost Missions, the season promises to reveal “some of the deepest mysteries of the conflict between the light and the dark sides of the Force leading to a series finale.” An intrepid clone trooper discovers a shocking secret, Anakin Skywalker’s closest relationship is tested to its limits, and what Master Yoda discovers while investigating the disappearance of a Jedi could forever change the balance of power in the galaxy. Under the multi-year deal with Disney/ABC TV Group, Netflix will be the exclusive subscription service for the entire Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, including several director’s cut episodes never seen on TV, as well as the 2008 feature film. This marks the first time any Star Wars content has been available on Netflix. It also expands the fast growing relationship between Netflix and Lucasfilm parent Disney. A year ago, the two companies signed a groundbreaking output movie deal, the first time a major movie studio had chosen streaming vs. pay cable for its features. And recently, the companies sealed another unprecedented pact for four series and a miniseries from another marquee Disney label, Marvel. “The Clone Wars marks an important moment as Netflix welcomes more and more first-run content from The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos.

Lucasfilm announced the end of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Time Warner’s Cartoon Network in March, a couple of months after the company’s acquisition by Disney. While the series was over on Cartoon Network, the company promised forthcoming original “bonus content,” noting that “we’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs.” Additionally, Lucasfilm is prepping a new Star Wars animated series for sibling Disney XD, Star Wars Rebels, which bridges Episodes III and IV of the movie franchise. The Clone Wars takes place between Episodes II and III. Netflix has signaled its interest in original animated series and recently acquired the Michael Eisner produced BoJack Horseman for a launch this year. In addition to The Killing, Netflix recently revived another cancelled series, cult comedy Arrested Development, with talks under away about another installment.

I am pretty excited about this because I always wanted to watch Clone Wars but it just never happened and after I fell a season or two behind I just gave up. Thought about buying the Season sets but having the entire run come to Netflix will be great!

Many of the episodes on Blu/DVD had director's cuts. I'd imagine these would just be those same ones. I don't see them doing anymore rendering on old episodes since they're moving over to Rebels (we're damn lucky we're getting this sixth season at all).

I've been watching these via DVD and I'm still in the middle of season 4. I'll need to get caught up pretty quick (and I hope these new eps will also get a physical release since it would drive me nuts to have a partial collection on my shelf).

Wow, was expecting them to put just 6 leftover episodes on DXD and be done with it.

Too bad this probably won't be on tv. I probably will check it out later this year. I'm not a big fan of the Clone Wars but I am excited about Rebels.

Would be nice if they put all seasons there.

If you've never seen the series, get a solid episode guide in advance and learn to skip over the poor episodes. This series was wildly hit or miss, with many dumb storylines that can be entirely skipped.

How does this fit in with the whole Star Wars timeline? I've seen all of the movies, but haven't really seen any of these yet. My son is at the age where he is starting to watch these as well, but I don't know where they fit in. I was planning to buy the 5 season set bluray at Christmas but now am glad I didn't as well...

It fits in the 3 years between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

I've seen some of this series and agree that it is very hit or miss. Glad I didn't buy the box sets. :)

I am curious as to whether or not this Clone Wars series is supposed to replace the 2-D animated one CN originally made to use as canon between AOTC and ROTS? Is this even supposed to be real canon or just some speculative EU ? Some of the episodes I saw seemed to contradict what we saw in ROTS. Then again, a lot of the PT contradicted what we saw in the OT , so no surprises in that regard.

That original Clone Wars cartoon has been eliminated from continuity. The public stance from Lucasfilm was that the CGI series was now the official story for its period for the Star Wars movie universe. Honestly though, it would get obliterated in a minute if a new filmmaker had an idea in this time period. The cartoons and other media will always be secondary to the movies, no matter what Lucas or Disney says. I doubt JJ Abrams is closely studying this spotty CGI series for continuity details.

That does make me wonder if the new crop of movies will pretty much eliminate 75% of written EU to date. The only stuff that would remain as possible canon in that case would be what was written to take place between and around the six movies.

Re: Sixth & Final Season Of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ To Stream On Netflix

The irony of the Clone Wars TV show was that Cartoon Anakin was a much cooler and likeable character then Hayden Christensen ever was in either Episode II & III. Again, I don't know if it was Lucas's directing or Hayden's acting, but I like the Cartoon Anakin better!

Consider yourself lucky your Internet provider isn't secretly throttling Netflix. Verizon is attempting to extort Netflix for more money by throttling the service to its Internet customers. I haven't got a reliable HD stream from Netflix in two months and I have a premium Fiber optic connection.

The first 12 episodes of season six are up as well as the entire series. The best part... they are in 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio! Finally we get to see the show as it was meant to be viewed instead of waiting for Blu-ray.

Thank you Netflix and Disney!
