TV Shows You Like to See on DVD.

Ever wanted shows like China Beach, Ally McBeal, The Wonder Years, Cold Case, and Dark Skies released on official DVD? Or shows like WKRP in Cincinnati, Quantum Leap and Tour of Duty in their original forms?

In recent years it is apparent that the copyright laws and royalty system for music in this expanding digital age is rapidly becoming more unworkable and anachronistic, and they're also outright damaging on many occasions if the corporate dickery on YouTube is anything to go by. Although the ridiculous bottleneck caused by music rights is not always the cause and Adam Wests' Batman not seeing the light of day on DVD is actually the result of several production companies jealously squabbling over the rights of the show itself. But most of the time it is companies unsure if they can make a profit off TV shows more than five years old, not bothering to go through with the expensive royalty payments and legal BS in return for relatively little netgain.

But their indecisiveness in regards of publishing TV shows and unthinking mindset towards the consumers only seems to bolster torrent downloads and bootleg DVDs. They seem to be slicing off their noses inspite of their faces.

I want everything in its original form. If you change something music wise, it can change the whole mood of the show. Imagine The Sopranos without the theme song (or Journey in the final episode)...it is a shame. I am more than willing to wait for things if the studios make an effort to get it right the first time.

It seems illogical and unfair that music content has to be paid for again to secure a DVD release. And wouldn't music content on a DVD be good publicity for old music?

Maybe on blu ray some day...

I've never understood this. And when the artist or label won't give the rights for a song to be used, it's like they're saying we'd rather get nothing, then even a small amount.

I have to wonder though if a song has ever been refused by a label, but then the actual artist finds out and is pissed that they're song was replaced?

Batman is far and away my #1 most wanted show.
I know it's brand new, but I'm really worried we won't get a DVD of the Middleman, and that would make me cry.

The Wonder Years

I've been waiting for seasons sets of this show since I first heard the possibilty of a TV Show being released on DVD (I think it was X - Files, but I'm not sure).

I would also like to see:

- Step by Step (yeah, I know...)
- Late Night with David Letterman (some kind of "best of")

Ultimately the music artists lose out as well, let alone the actors and writers from the TV shows kept in limbo for years because of the extortionate music clearance issues. I just wish the morons will hurry up and stop painting themselves into a corner like this for so long, they had an excuse before the 1990s when VHS was mostly about movies and DVDs didn't properly exist then, but all the parties involved have no excuse since 2000 and they have poorly adapted to the march of technology (like America in general).

If they had reduced or even non-existant music clearance that would easily put the wind out of the sails of media pirates who peddle TV shows, while giving a broad promotion of music tracks.

China Beach is at the top of my list. Followed by The Wonder Years and the remaining seasons of Mary Tyler Moore.

Cold Case

I bought season 1-4 as a bootleg box set when I was vacationing in Hong Kong since it's doubtful we'll ever see it here in the States anytime soon.

Paid only $20 for it.

Plus, there is absolutely no replay value. They are fun to watch live every week but that's it.
