i like the premise but i didnt like the show, didnt feel like they executed the idea correct. I loved the first 5 minutes though.

Problem from the premiere episode is really none of the characters were likable, especially the black girl, she was completely unlikeable though out the episode.

I enjoy a whole host of shows, everything from Carnivale, The Office, Veronica Mars, Seinfeld, Babylon 5, Firefly, Twin Peaks, Picket Fences, Primeval, Extras, Rome, Deadwood, and more. I swear, SFU fans are the most insecure fans I've ever come across online. Some people didn't like the show and thought it was garbage, get over it, there's no reason to get all up in arms anytime anyone says the show was less than stellar, I know I don't get that way when people say such things about shows I consider great.

Oh, I know that, but I didn't think True Blood did a good job of mixing in the gonzo with the entire "Introspection on human culture through vampirism" idea. Maybe that will change over time, it's only one episode and all that, but I thought the first episode did a terrible job of finding an identity and the gonzo moments didn't fit into the flow of the episode at all.

I'm another who thought SFU was ridiculously over-rated, but I enjoyed the pilot.

Will watch next week in hopes that Anna Paquin will have a lapse of judgment and show some boob. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening, though. Damn actresses and their "morals".

I thought this was OK. It certainly was no SFU, but I won't be tuning out quite yet. It just didn't seem to be very cohesive. And I'll agree with the other poster who said that Bill had very little appeal. I just found it hard to understand how Sookie was so drawn to him. He just seems pretty dull.

But I do think the show has some good potential. I'm just not sure how interested I am in the whole vampire romance subplot. It just feels like it has been done so many times!

I went into this with extremely low expectations because every promo I've seen looked terrible. I actually enjoyed it a lot. There are some really cool ideas sprinkled throughout the show and I'm interested to find out where it's going. My only real complaints are with the black friend and Anna Paquin. The friend is annoying as hell and Paquin bugs me. She's kinda cute I suppose but her gapped teeth and the way she talks just grates on me. She'd be fine as a supporting character, but I'm worried that she'll have trouble carrying a show while still keeping me interested.

If I had one complaint about the first ep it would be that Bill is by far the least interesting character. Hopefully he gets fleshed out a bit in the coming episodes.
according to my wife who is a big fan of the books said they actually portrayed him pretty accurately, they don't really give him much development until the 5th book. I don't know how they are going to handle that with the show though because i agree with your statement with hoping he gets fleshed out sooner than later. I got to say he's pretty damn good looking though. I said that during the show and my wife just kinda looked at me, then agreed with me.

Well, you didn't say something as eloquent like "SFU" was less than stellar. Or even bad or "not to my liking". You said it was a "steaming pile of horse crap". Knowing there are "SFU" fans here. So get over it yourself, and expect the repercussions to your comment.

I agree that you are certainly entitled to your opinion that SFU wasn't very good, but I also have to agree that there is a big difference between "I really didn't like SFU" to "SFU was a steming pile of horse crap." And to make that comment on a thread concerning the SFU creator's follow-up show is just asking for shit to be tossed at you. Just like I would expect shit to be thrown at me if I went into a Firefly thread and used those exact words to relate to Buffy. There's a way to express you didn't like something without being borderline insulting toward the people who did.

Why should I sugar coat how I feel? Is it my job to make sure that you somehow aren't thin skinned about a TV show? I called it a steaming pile of horse crap because that's what it is, learn to live with that.

I could honestly care less if someone came into a thread about Jeremiah and said Babylon 5 was horse crap. If they think its horse crap, then they think its horse crap, no skin off of my back. It's also called relevance, the creator of True Blood has made one other show and that is what I can use as a starting reference point for what I think the chances are of TB being any good. In this case they aren't very good because that previous show was SFU which still rates to this day as the worst show HBO ever produced and one of the worst shows ever, period. SFU fans can continue to get all upset and throw whatever they want at me, I'm not thin skinned like they are, I'm not about to get all up in arms about it.

Bill, you were trying to antagonize people with that comment. You knew people who loved Six Feet Under would check out True Blood and then come here to comment about it, you were trying to poke people with a stick. It was a stupid and rude move to pull, made you look like a prick.

I enjoyed True Blood.

I wasn't expecting much because of the poor reviews from the leaked pilot, but this was really entertaining. Alan Ball hasn't disappointed me yet.

Daytripper says it well:

I agree. SFU fans are in no way insecure. We are just that "diehard" about the show and will not accept some cheap comment thrown out there to deface it. One of the worst shows ever, period?

---

I watched the pilot again and Paquin is growing on me the more I watch. I also think the score is really good.

No, like I said, it's called a point of reference, SFU was his only other TV work and therefore it was my frame of reference to work off of. I'm not thin skinned enough to where I care about someone calling a show I like horse crap, and I expect most human beings to be the same.

Yes, because being in Cary is really something to brag about, call me when Cary-Grove does anything that matters.. That goes for this entire area mind you, all the schools around here are great at beating each other but man do they ever lose badly once they have to face schools from outside the area.

But alas, no, I did not go to South, Central, or PR, I didn't go to any high school in this area actually.

It didn't blow me away, but I enjoyed it. There were both times when I thought that it was disjointed and when I thought it was captivating.

When I watch a premeire that I hope will end up being something that lasts or that I'll want to keep watching, I always judge things at the very end. When the credits roll.

Do I want more or do I want to move on to whatever else I've got to do.

I wanted more AND I really had that feeling of not wanting to wait a whole week to see those people again. At least for now, Sookie/Anna (and not just cause she's crazy hot) is carrying the load for me. I loved her character.

Couldn't help but wish, after it was over, that Big Love was back to have both to watch on Sundays too.

This show sucks pretty bad... but I might catch it again. Admittedly it was kind of a fun watch, even though every few minutes I found myself wondering how the show even got greenlit. The acting is almost as bad as the writing, but Anna Paquin's breasts? They have real personality and make me want to tune in for another day.

Are there really DVDTalkers having a fight that devolved from trashing/defending SFU to arguing over which of their podunk IL towns sucks harder?

Did I accidentally wonder into an AICN or IMDB board?

That was pretty bizarre. But I think someone is trolling for an argument anyway.

Man, I CANNOT WAIT until JJ's Star Trek movie comes out. Purists are going to be having he-bitch-man-slap fights with everyone who enjoys it, mentions of raped childhoods and Roddenberry corpses rolling in graves will abound... we MAY (if we're lucky) even get someone from Gary, Indiana calling his rival from Poseyville a pussy! Aw, man... it's going to be glorious.

Well FWIW they were talking about Chicago suburbs so not necessarily "podunk", but kind of far out there nonetheless.

I have to say most guys I know that hated SFU had a problem with the predominant "gay" stuff. I thought it could be over the top at times but was fine with it.

HA, my apologies. It was less about how "podunk" they were, and more about the fact that they were arguing about a fairly coloquial issue on an International message board. I'm from Springfield, Pennsylvania, as podunk as suburbs get. I now live in Philly, and if someone called Springfield out for sucking, I'd say, "yeah... it does. Hence the move." Not, "Where you from? ARDMORE?! Fucking loser! Ardmore Pizza can't hold a candle to Thunderbird II! Where'd you go to school, Bonner?! Fayg!"
