I go where Tivo goes. I had to get rid of Directv and switch to Comcast when my Directivo busted. When this comes out I'll have to see who gives me the best deal between Directv, Comcast, and Verizon. Nice to have so many options.

The Directv HR20 receiver I have freezes occasionally where you press any button and nothing happens and if you have to restart the receiver.
One time I restarted it and it erased all my season passes and future recordings so I had to reprogram all of them.
I hope the new model will still allow you to watch TV while looking through the guide and program recordings.

I left D* because the picture quality was really getting bad. This was before the Mpeg 4 rollout. If D* goes back to Tivo I might have to take a look as they offer a ton of HD that my cable provider dosen't. Has D*'s picture quality gotten better since the Mpeg 4 switch?

I'll just be happy if I can have more than 50 season passes again.

I'm moving next month and was going to switch to DTV. I hate Comcrap, but I have it right now with stand alone tivos.

For those who have been patiently waiting, the long divorce between DirecTV and Tivo looks to be ending in a couple of weeks:

DIRECTV and TiVo are teaming up to bring you the TiVo service on HD DIRECTV DVRs. This new service is expected to launch in 2010.
TiVo to unveil new DVR on March 2?
Looks like those of you waiting for the next TiVo won't have to wait much longer. The company sent out a press invite for a March 2 event in New York with the teaser "Inventing the DVR was just warming up."
Anticipation among hard-core TiVo fans over the possible release of Series 4 TiVo has been building for the last few months and it did make our list of the most anticipated tech products of 2010. A bit of info has leaked about a possible next-gen TiVo system, which may or may not be called the Premiere. The good news is we should know soon enough.

If you are a current Directv subscriber with the Directv HD DVR can you trade up for the new TIVO receiver free without charge?
it is funny but the local HD channels like NBC 11 don't look as good as the national HD channels like the NFL Network.

Re: Tivo coming back to DirecTV....
I've looked at the two links above a little closer, and I think caution is warranted.
The CNET article does not explicitly mention DirecTV, and the TiVo link is just old news. The partnership was renewed back in 2008, and the new DirecTV HD Tivo has been "coming soon" forever.
So, I'd love it if these two are actually related, but I remain skeptical.

Re: Tivo coming back to DirecTV....
For me it's all about the interface, and I had read lots of bad reviews about DirecTV's HD DVR (technical problems, mainly)... although I have a friend who recently subscribed and is happy with his. We shall see if this pans out.

Re: Tivo coming back to DirecTV....
Thanks for the thread bump with the news. I just bought a new HD set for the bedroom to replace an old CRT. I still need to call DirecTV to get an HD DVR for that room (currently I have an old D*Tivo in there.) I think I will wait until this news release before I plunk down $200 for a HD DVR. I'd rather have a Tivo. I can live with the standard signal for now, the picture on the new TV is still pretty good for a bedroom.
I have DirecTV HD DVR in the main family room, but that would also be replaced with an HD Tivo if I could!

I'm perfectly happy with my HR20, HR22, HR23, and HD enabled R22.
And about plunking down $200....that's all I put down for all of them combined. Originally had an R15 that was acting up and replaced with a R22. Paid $200 for the HR20 the month after it was released...got the HR22 for free after threatening to move to Dish and after complaining it wasn't an HR23, they sent an HR23 at no charge as well. Oh and they also did not extend my contract. The only bad to come from it was that this was the first year I was unable to get them to give me the Sunday Ticket promo.

I dunno, if Tivo comes out with a box similar to what they've had and the MRV functions better than the DirecTv branded stuff, I'd consider switching over.

This. I just replaced a defective TiVoHD that I use OTA to get HD, refusing to ditch my DirecTiVo. But I will gladly upgrade my service to combine the two!

Re: Tivo coming back to DirecTV....
The discussion over at tivocommunity is focusing more on an HD UI update, there isn't much talk on DirecTV. The event is in NY and TiVo doesn't make it's hardware announcements in NY.
Granted, there could be multiple announcements.

When this was first announced, the rumors were this might be a software thing at first (update current DVRs) and then they'd release their own branded unit at a later date.

Re: Tivo coming back to DirecTV....
I used Tivo through DirecTV for years until getting an HD DVR from DirecTV in 2007. Frankly, I have very little to complain about with their equipment or interface.

Re: Tivo coming back to DirecTV....
I really don't get the big deal about Tivo - I'm using a Tivo R-10 (that I got from a friend) for one of my SD TVs and I think the interface sucks compared to current DTV units. My Replay-TV (for another SD feed) is also better than Tivo.

Re: Tivo coming back to DirecTV....
I've had quite a few problems with my DTV DVR. A couple of months ago, it decided to change all my "record first run episodes" season passes to "record all episodes". Then a couple of weeks ago it "forgot" that it had two tuners and would only record one show at a time.
I like the Tivo interface a lot and will be all over a new DirecTV/Tivo product.
