I usually don't get to watch it until a day or so after on the DVR - so there you go. But without seeing this weeks EP (don't worry folks, spoilers don't bother me), I'm far from giving up on this show yet.

Jadzia 09-17-08 01:20 PM

I'm surprised so many of the comments here have been so positive. I was pretty bored watching this ep, and I think I am close to dropping the show. Don't care about any of Naomi's plot, Annie's conflict was boring. the whole Dixon car thing was dull. This show just seems like a mess so far. The only thing that seems to be working for them is the interest in the older characters (and I never watched the original show) but they don't seem to know what they are doing given what I have read that Garth and Doherty are only signed for a certain amount of episodes. Just odd that they would start a show and not even have a long-term plan for the featured characters.

I did like "I asked him where he was when Kurt Cobain died and he said he was watching cartoons."

So far Garth's storyline is the only interesting thing.

I agree but I'll still tune in.

I agree but again am confused as to putting her in such a prominent role in the school community if they weren't going to keep the character as a permanent one.

Me too. Every time I read an article about this show, I am struck by how it seems like they just flung this on the air quickly and really gave no thought to actually developing the series. It ties in with how so many of the characters are boring and one-dimensional.

I think they should have taken an extra year to solidy the cast so they could at least plot out the direction of the first season.

Double_Oh_7 09-17-08 03:37 PM

They need to dump all the new characters and just make this "90210: The Adult Years" with the old cast.

That was basically the last 3 years of the original, which were a yawner.

B.A. 09-17-08 03:45 PM

the show would be much better if they would just dump the Naomi character. She makes Tori Spelling look like Meryl Streep.

Her scenes, particularly the one where she confronted the homewrecker, are comedy gold.

That may very well be. But the only thing about this new show that people seem to be interested in is the "where are they now" aspect to the old characters.

Nth Power 09-17-08 04:34 PM

They need to have some more lasting conflict for the characters. The storylines they have now are all somewhat entertaining, but they could stand to get ratcheted up a notch or two. Other than Naomi, things seem to be going pretty good for the rest of them.

The CW probably wouldn't be around next year if not for the "buzz" on this show...the network is in shambles right now and all depends on how well 90210 does.

Jadzia 09-17-08 05:00 PM

They should put out a new Melrose Place next year. That would be awesome.

Well then stick a fork in it. If this is its only life raft, it's about to sink.

agreed

raven56706 09-17-08 07:45 PM

the only thing bringing me back to this show would be if Nate takes brenda and says..."your parents never told you...... i am your father"

that would be awesome

Uh oh! From IMDB:

SPOILER ALERT: Luke Perry is under pressure to return to Beverly Hills after his beloved TV character Dylan McKay was named the father of Kelly Taylor's son on Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off 90210 on Tuesday night.

Only Jennie Garth, who revives her role as Taylor in the new show, Joe E Tata and Shannen Doherty agreed to return to the famous address for the new series - but now Garth is hoping the bombshell, which aired on Tuesday will bring Perry back.

Garth says, "I would love to work with Luke again. I love him dearly."

The actor and former co-star Jason Priestley have turned down attempts to bring them back to 90210 and Doherty has walked away from the spin-off after filming her contracted four episodes.

Patman 09-17-08 09:49 PM

The main problems with this show:

1. The acting by AnnaLynne McCord is unintentionally LOL funny, and that's not a good thing. Naomi's subplots already border on the inane, at least have her mom self-medicate to explain her idiotic response to a philandering husband looking towards a polygamy lifestyle of sorts. But she does channel a good "There's Something About Mary" vibe when dealing with Ethan's brother.

2. Annie is far too perfect and uninteresting, but at least they'll change some of that in the next episode in a, I suspect, cliche-ridden storyline of young lust gone awry. Her attraction to Ethan and not respecting the bubble just makes for bad storytelling which results in a "why is she, a goody-goody, trying so hard to prove she's the one to tear Ethan away from his dysfunctional Sid/Nancy bubble he shares with Naomi" way.

3. The father-son dynamic between Dixon and dad is slumber-inducing in terms of how they relate to one another, like mature people. This is death for a new show built on teen angst, an affluent lifestyle, and questionable relationship morality.

This show does need a sharper edge to the drama and conflict, and it shouldn't have things resolve themselves in a mature manner, but leave some scars, physical or emotional as growing up in 90210 shouldn't be this easy.

B.A. 09-17-08 11:40 PM

The show needs lots of Lori Loughlin walking around in a bikini.

Yet more proof that the writers are just flying by the seat of their pants in plotting this show.

Couldn't they have named the daddy as an actor that they actually have under contract to appear?

shyguy1083 09-18-08 12:25 AM

^ i remember in Entertainment Weekly a couple weeks back, the showrunners made a joke about how whoever agreed to come back to the show first would probably be named sammy's dad. i remember laughing at the time and thinking that was probably a good idea, so i was quite surprised to see they just blurted out dylan at the end. although i guess they had to as any more conversations where they just refer to the guy as "him" or "sammy's father" would get annoying.

DJariya 09-18-08 01:27 AM

It sounds like Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs are following the 24 style of writing and making up shit as they go along.

Okay, I've watched every episode so far and it's been moderately entertaining. But, it seems like alot of people are expecting this to be a Reunion 90210 than a new show. Wasn't the whole point of bringing in Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty was to help launch the show? I mean Shannen only has 2 episodes left and Jennie won't be around a full season. Do you think the writers dug themselves into a hole with these guest spots?

Yes, I do think the writers dug themselves into a hole with the guest spots. They will continue to dig because I honestly don't expect Luke to come on, unless they make him a offer he just can't refuse. He was on some talk show or entertainment show and said he would only do it if it was done by Aaron and since he is gone it should be left alone.

I think Jennie has to be on for the full season, because without her the show won't fly. I know I wouldn't be watching. Rob & Lori are not enough.

stingermck 09-18-08 09:20 AM

For me the old cast helps keep my interest, because the new cast doesnt do a thing for me.

Gizmo 09-18-08 04:07 PM

I really want to watch the original 90210 now...uh oh.

I feel exactly the same way. I fast forward through the young and watch the old.

It seems most of the buzz is about the original cast and little is being said about the new cast because....they are boring.

AnnaLynne McCord gets worst actress of the year for this one.
Horrible performance.

DJariya 09-19-08 05:17 PM

AnnaLynne McCord is killing this show!! She needs to go back to Nip/Tuck and play that slut Eden.

Dixon is somewhat growing on me. He's alot more likeable and the scenes with him and Silver were decent.

Annie is just way too cute and perky. I think Shenae Grimes is a decent actress, but the writers need to do something with Annie and make her more real. Hopefully next week is a sign of some improvement with her.

Ryan is a douche bag. He had no business whatsoever inquiring about Kelly's personal life. He's only been on 1 fucking date with her.

riley_dude 09-20-08 05:04 PM

Does anyone know how the ratings are holding up. Are people abandoning this lame show?

See the Ratings sticky at the top. Movieman is very good about keeping up with the daily Nielsens. And yes it's dropped to slightly above 3M viewers.

Original Desmond 09-21-08 12:57 AM

i thought ep was alright.

DJariya 09-21-08 01:36 PM

I think the writers just dug themselves into a deeper hole with the whole Dylan reveal. Why do it when there won't be any payoff?

Ratings boost?

THE CW EXTENDS TRIP TO THE ZIP, GIVING "90210" A FULL-SEASON PICKUP

September 22, 2008 (Burbank, CA) - The CW's drama "90210," quickly becoming one of the most popular series among young women, has been picked up for a full season of episodes, it was announced today by Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment, The CW.

"The successful addition of '90210' has taken The CW another step forward in building a cohesive schedule that defines this network as a destination for young women with shows that get our audience talking -- and watching," said Ostroff. "We're very excited about the chance to watch this ensemble of newcomers and familiar faces coalesce and grow together as we move forward."

The two-hour debut of "90210" shattered ratings records for The CW Network, becoming the highest-rated series premiere in the network's history with women 18-34 (4.5/12), adults 18-34 (3.1/9) and adults 18-49 (2.6/7). The "90210" series opener led The CW to become Tuesday's #1 network in all key demographics. With a double airing of the "90210" premiere during the opening week (Tuesday and Thursday), 12.7 million viewers watched all or part of The CW's highly anticipated new series. Facing increased competition, the most recent telecast of 90210 scored week-to-week gains in target demos, including 6% in women 18-34 (3.3/10), 14% in adults 18-34 (2.4/7) and 3% in total viewers (3.3mil). In addition, the series debut of "90210" added over a third more viewers in target demographics with Live-Plus Seven Day DVR viewing included.

"90210" stars Rob Estes, Shenae Grimes, Tristan Wilds, AnnaLynne McCord, Dustin Milligan, Ryan Eggold, Jessica Stroup, Michael Steger, Lori Loughlin and Jessica Walter, with special appearances by Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty. The show is produced by CBS Paramount Network Television with executive producers Gabe Sachs & Jeff Judah ("Freaks & Geeks") and new-to-the-series Rebecca Kirschner ("Gilmore Girls").
