Well, I wouldn't say the show itself is a hit until a few weeks into it's run. I truly feel that this show will sink like a stone.

jeffkjoe 09-03-08 03:23 PM

I bet once Shannen Doherty leaves, it'll lose a lot of luster. Although it's early, but the new cast REALLY pales in comparison with the original. Bunch of bland, faceless pretty-boys/girls.

Just curious, but what show started that 'CUT TO TITLE' at the end of the episode business - I know TONS that do it, but who was first - Alias? (Lots earlier had used the cut to 'executive producer' card for dramatic effect ie. Buffy)

ALIAS comes to mind. LOST does it too. But both are JJ Abrams shows.

Exactly. Lots of cookie cutter, with no personalities really standing out. I bet if the ratings starts to dip, they will really reach out to the original cast then. Hell I think id rather watch the whole thing with the originals.

I noticed the some of the boys were prettier than the woman with their tweezed eye brows and all.

I watched it with low expectations going in and it turned out better than I thought. Nothing too great, but fairly entertaining. It reminded me quite a bit of The OC. I'll watch another couple episodes and see if it holds my interest.

Most shows do. If it holds a 3.5 it is still a hit for CW standards.

sq240 09-03-08 05:24 PM

Is it just me or does Annie come off as a hollow shell or Amy Abbott from Everwood?

Pretty bland premier in my opinion. The principal and the lacrosse coach seemed to be the only interesting new characters. Too many storylines going on and it was just all over the place.

Jericho 09-03-08 05:40 PM

Just curious, but when did Lacrosse become so big? I hate to nitpick, but I thought: (1) it was mainly an East coast thing, at least thats where all the good schools are, (2) its usually played in the Spring; (3) since when is the Lacrosse team the "cool" team?

I can forgive the last one, but the others seem a bit off. Even growing up in Maryland, a hotbed for lacrosse, it's still not held in the same breath as football.

I had the same exact thought. Since when is lacrosse a big sport in CA?

yeah, that George character looked completely bizarre and out of place.

Lived in Cali my entire life and never played lacrosse. Never even knew schools had a team for it.

Another thing, this is the third CW show to have a Coldplay song in it this weke (OTH, GG)...I love Coldplay...but damn.

LickTheABCs 09-04-08 12:27 AM

The show itself was incredibly mediocre, even for a CW show.. but I'll continue watching because well, what the hell is there to watch on Tuesdays..

And I don't know why, but every time I see AnnaLynne McCord all I keep seeing is the Zombie from the cover of the Fulci flick.

Original Desmond 09-04-08 08:19 AM

on imdb it said Jackie Taylor made an appearance. I know she was mentioned, but was she actually in a scene and i missed it ?

Ummm.... a little show called House and the supposedly critically raved new Fringe maybe?

Not really. It was sort of a remixed version at best, but the only real similarities are the little guitar riff at the very opening and the way it ends.

The new theme song uses the same melody as the previous show as well. Everything is just a bit faster and jazzed up. :)

I recently caught some early season 1 episodes of the original, and it frankly it had it's own growing pains, too. I don't think this one was any worse by comparison. I liked it pretty well.
I think it should be given a few episodes to catch it's stride.

Yeah, I refuse to watch House anymore. I watched the first 2 episodes because I heard Bryan Singer was involved but since I quickly got tired of the "rare disease that nobody can cure so House has to save the day while saying something incredibly witty" storyline, I gave up on it.

..and Fringe, well, at this present time I've seen 2 more episodes of 90210 than I have of it, so I can't make any judgment, but that's why Dual-tuner DVRs were invented.

There was a storyline where Kelly and Jake were seeing each other and did a couple of crossover episodes. I forgot that 90210 and Melrose were in the same "universe", so I wonder if there will be any Melrose cameos.

If you saw the preview for next week's episode, Jackie is making an appearance.

So is there a legal way to view this online? I can't tell from that mess of a CW website.

It re-airs tonight at 8pm. Just set your DVR. Yeah, the CW web site sucks.

I think it is designed that way on purpose to only make sense to people under 21.

lordwow 09-05-08 11:33 PM

I just watched this on DVR. It was like watching The OC without the interesting characters or witty writing.

Goldberg74 09-05-08 11:39 PM

CNN's all a-buzz with the opening scene with the implied oral sex.

What a way to start off a sho... ho... HO!.. HO!... oh....!!!!!

Draven 09-06-08 10:28 AM

I finally got around to watching this last night - it was entertaining enough, and definitely on par with the original as far as clunky writing, stuff that makes no sense and adults-playing-teenagers.

However, my biggest pet peeve was the fact they were doing "Spring Awakening" as the high school musical. The only reason they picked it is because it's one of the "hippest" shows out there right now, but it's also about rape, abortion, abuse and underage sex. There is a song called, and I'm not kidding, "Totally Fucked".

I don't care how progressive you are, there is no way in hell a high school is putting on that show. Not to mention I'm pretty sure the rights aren't available to local productions yet :)

It's my theater nerd side, but it just reeked of the writers going "what's a show that's really hip right now?" and going from there.

It was surprisingly nice to see Donna and Brenda together again - they really acted like old friends. And I thought Jennie Garth not only looked fantastic, but easily slipped back into her role and brought a nice bit of continuity to the universe.

Patman 09-06-08 10:29 AM

Decent launch/updating of 90210 for a new generation, though it is doing its darnedest to also incorporate the parental soapiness from "The O.C." I'll probably watch anything featuing Jessica Stroup, so it's on the to-be-recorded list, but the acting by the young cast needs to get better.

My thoughts, too, pretty much. Give it at least half season to see whether it truly gets off the ground, or not. Not every show is a home run on the first hit.

Original Desmond 09-06-08 08:15 PM

Jennie Garth did look amazing but i thought the inclusive of the 'oldies' seemed a bit forced and tacked on. Let's hope they have their own genuine storylines rather than just being peripheral nostalgia dressing

fujishig 09-08-08 01:50 PM

Was it just me, or did Jessica Walter play almost the exact same character as she did on Arrested Development, except not as over-the-top? Granted, I haven't seen her in many other roles, maybe that's just her thing. She was still the most enjoyable part of the show.

In fact, the adult actors are really carrying the show, at least at this point.

In the realm of "can't suspend my disbelief," besides the Lacrosse thing and the "improbable-things-happen-to-move-along-the-story" things (like the open door singing, the daughter being good enough to get a part in the musical, etc.):

The transition from the party to Santa Monica beach was a little startling. They got there in record time, but that one kid got there earlier than them, is already changed and surfing in pitch black? How the heck do these kids get around?

What was the wife doing back in Kansas? Her job seems very big-city based...

So let me get this straight: if one kid does the pig thing, he's off the team, but if two do it, they just can't play for one game?

I'm glad some "anonymous" text can ruin a relationship, just like that, with no confirmation at all. And that Silver's lame little skits can really mark someone like that... oh look, she's from Kansas, let's throw in some cows.

DJariya 09-08-08 04:36 PM

I believe Lori Loughlin's character is a photographer. I'm sure there is work for that profession even in a state like Kansas.

Episode synopsis:

Spoiler:

Harry and Debbie plan a family night of bowling that gets interrupted when Annie and Dixon's friends arrive unexpectedly. With both Ty (Adam Gregory) and Ethan present, Annie learns what it's like to be caught in the middle. Meanwhile, Kelly addresses her mother's drinking problem and its effect on Silver.

B.A. 09-09-08 10:46 PM

The chick who play Naomi is weird looking and has huge ears. She could probably play an extra on Star Trek. But she has the best body of the bunch. Too bad she can't act for shit.

This was better than the pilot.

Red Dog 09-10-08 07:52 AM

Better than the pilot. Not much better, but better.

Doughboy 09-10-08 08:13 AM

I don't know if I'd consider this better than the pilot. All 3 hours of the show so far have sucked.

The one good thing that's come out of this 90210 revival is that the mediocre Gossip Girl suddenly looks like the greatest show of all-time in comparison.

TwineTime 09-10-08 08:20 AM

No way was this better than the pilot. No Jessica Walter and no Shannen Doherty = no sale.

2 minutes of drunk/high Jackie Taylor-Silver does not make up for it, either.

No one...I repeat...no one cares about family bowling night. If they want this show to succeed, they'd better start focusing on what the people want. In order for this to stick around, they need a good 50-50 focus on old 90210-new 90210.

starseed1981 09-10-08 08:49 AM

Consider this my first drop of the season. Not trying to threadcap, but I just don't see any potential for an intriguing show here. Too bad.

Timber 09-10-08 09:05 AM

Thought it was much better then last week.

Lots of Silver which is a good thing since I think she's the hottest of the bunch. Naomi is the definition of a Two-face, hot with one look so far not with another.

If my parents made me GO BOWLING with them instead of seeing THE NEW BOND MOVIE 2 MONTHS EARLY, I'd smother them in their sleep.

If my adopted mom was Lori Loughlin and she wore white pants...yeah, I'd go bowling.
