Going to Price is Right!
My wife and I are taking my sister-in-law to Price is Right on Tuesday for her birthday. It would be neat to win something, but I'm mainly just hoping we get in. We're going to try to get there by 3am I think.
Have any of you been on? What time did you get there? Did you win anything? Any hints/suggestions? Did you do special shirts?
Oh yeah, we're doing our shirts like numbers on the wheel. My SIL is going to be the 100 and my wife and I are going to be the 5 and 15. We were hoping for 20 people, then we would be guaranteed in, and we could do the whole wheel.

I have no first-hand experience, but I hear they interview people in line and look for the most enthusiastic, so you have to bounce around and look kind of goofy if you want to hear the old "Come on down." I would also have your S.I.L. wear something that says "It's my Birthday!"

That always was my idea to put the wheel on my shirt if I was ever to go. It would be super cool to have the whole wheel and have it really spin!

The producer does interview everyone before the taping begins, and there is an assistant taking notes the whole time. The most energetic and "interesting" people are the ones who get the call to come on down. One of the people from our group got picked, and actually made it into the showcase (and was bidding on a car!), but when she was asked to bid, she looked over at us for help. We tried to give hand signals for $32,000, but she misread it as $23,000. The actually price of her showcase was $33,500. So, she lost. But it was still an amazing experience.
One thing to be prepared for is that the set is a LOT smaller than you would expect it to be. I had always assumed it was large, because so many contestants seem to lose track of what they are bidding on in contestants row. But they don't lose track because of the size of the place, they lose track because the cheers from the audience are so loud that most of the time you can't hear what Rich is saying, and there is so much activity on the stage all of the time that you can't always tell where they want you to look.

My wife's co-worker's aunt won a Viper on the Million Dollar Spectacular. It sat in her driveway for a while and she couldn't afford to spend $1000/month on insurance so she sold it for $89,000, paid all the taxes on her prizes, and put a down payment on a house.

Just know that the "pre-interviews" are all really quick. They take people like 5 or 6 at a time and you walk in front of the producers for about 30 seconds or a minute and they'll ask each of you a question, you answer it, and then boom. You go into the studio to be seated.

My friend actually decided to ditch class and went to the show by himself on a whim last fall.
Son of a bitch walked away with a PT Cruiser, two jet-skis, a bbq set, and other various items.
Everything ended up being sold as he couldn't afford the taxes on any of it.

C-Mart: A crisp $20 awaits you if you promise to slug Drew in the gut if you make it on stage.

Be prepared to wait....and wait....and wait.....and wait....and wait some more. I went a few years back when Bob was still on the show. We got to the studio around 5am and we didn't get into the studio until like 3 or 4pm. During that time you just kind of sit in this waiting area that is outside so if it's hot make sure you dress for the heat. On the way into the theater they take a group at a time and you parade in front of the producer who asks you a bunch of questions. I have to say it's kind of hard being energetic after waiting for a good portion of 8 hours. After that they lead you to the set which as someone already pointed out really tiny. The show then goes live. It's alot of fun once you are in the taping but the wait before hand sucks big time.

The yelling from the audience ruined it- the first shows from 1972 on the DVD set they actually dim the lights over the audience during the bidding and they stay quiet. By 1973 it looks like they started encouraging the audience to yell out stuff. If I were on the show I'd turn to them and yell "SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!"

I was going to suggest the SIL wear a tight shirt and go bra less.

Over $43k once all is said and done. Son of a bitch. Whenever I audition for game shows, I always get denied.

Well, tomorrow's the big day. I'm heading out to LA early to hang out and get in line. My wife and SIL are going to join me around 2am or so. I'm sure we'll get in, now I just hope we can get on as contestants!

Yeah, Plinko I would probably bounce it off the side triangle and let it go into the board at an angle.
