After work on Monday I went straight out to LA on a quest to find a board game to play in line: Link.
I didn't find it though and went to The Grove. I walked around a bit checking everything out and then saw The Mummy 3. After that I checked the line and there was nobody there so I went to my car and watched Juno on my iPod. Now it's 1:30 and I check the line and there are some people there. I'm 7th in line. My wife and SIL showed up at around 3AM and join me. We are surrounded by a weird "redneck" family in front of us and crazy black women behind us (not saying all black women are crazy, but these ones sure were). Both groups smoked of course...
Around 6am they handed out Order of Arrival slips and we took our stuff back to the cars, then headed back. At 7:30 they put us all in order which means we were stuck with the people that surrounded us all night. We got our tickets and were dismissed again until 9am. At this time the black women were missing one of their group and couldn't find her. As we were leaving we saw her... when we said she missed the tickets she started running like crazy. In the end she was seperated from her group, but still got to go. We went and had a bit of breakfast at the Farmer's Market, then head back. They now put us in order on the side of the building, and we waited until they did name tags, contestant cards, etc... They brought the first 12 of us up to the rail to interview with the producer. He didn't give us much of a chance to do anything but answer his questions. He asked if I could make all the signals green as he went up Fairfax (I'm a traffic engineer). My SIL who's birthday this year was 8/8/08 and was contestant number 008 didn't get a chance to say that or the spiel that she had rehearsed.
They ended up with about 40 people from the stand by list able to get in.
Now we were put in another holding area and waited about an hour and 45 minutes before we were led into the studio. As another group was heading to this holding area one if the guys tripped over a fire hydrant that is oddly placed in the middle of the sidewalk. Within 20 minutes they had the thing roped off and the "path" now went out into the street. The guy played it up a lot, but I don't know if he got anything out of the deal.
We were really looking forward to seeing how small the studio is as we had heard many times. It was very small but on TV it seems huge! Those camera guys are masters. It was cold and loud as well. When they call contestants down it is too loud to hear, so they have a guy that looks like Mark Walberg from that Eagles movie with name cards that he shows to the audience. He also runs around getting the crowd to be louder, shout suggestions, etc... By the end of the show it hurt my throat to yell.
The front row is a total of 14 seats, 5 on the left, 5 on the right, and contestant row in the middle. The first group had 6 people so 5 on the left and 1 on the right of contestant row... we were the next 3, and there was 1 seat left on my right. It was filled by an 18yo who's mom had been very annoying all day. A guy came out with a big board which had the episode information (including the air-date - Oct. 13th) and then a few minutes later Rich Fields came out and gave us the low-down... and then the games started. The second name called was the 18yo on my right, and he nailed the first bid as well. Then he proceeded to win his game too. His annoying mom jumped into his vacated seat as soon as he got up to contestant's row.
Between each game Drew chats with people, tells stories, etc... During the second break he noticed our shirts which were the 5, 15, and 100 spots from the wheel. He had us stand up and show the whole audience.
In the end we didn't get chosen, nor did anyone from the redneck family in front of us. One of the crazy black ladies was chosen and ended up with a bookshelf and a guitar.
After the show they ask you to stay in your seats and Rich Fields comes out with one of the models - who happened to be in a bikini because she was modeling the sail boat and plugged the new book "Come on Down" and then randomly gave away the Price is Right home game and $100. None of us won that either.
As we filed out of the studio they asked us to be quiet and Rich Fields recorded a couple of commercials. We had many positive comments on our shirts. I'm certain that we'll see it repeated now... especially once the show airs. I'll post a photo when/if I get it off of my SIL's camera.
In the end it was a lot of fun, but I wouldn't get there that early again unless it was a Million Dollar Spectacular in which case I would get there much earlier... I would like to go in a big group sometime though.

I don't think I'd ever really want to go on that show...I want a game show that gives me MONEY as the prize, not mostly useless junk (I'd probably win a grand piano or jet skis or something lame) BUT...
If I got to play Plinko, I'd be PISSED OFF. Hardly anybody does well at that game. I have no idea why people react as if Jesus is coming back when they play it. They nearly piss themselves. And most of the time it lands in the 0 or the 100.00 slot. Yeah, good times.
I think That's Too Much is awfully hard to play as well...I hardly see anybody win at that one. And Lucky 7 too...You can't screw up too much in that game.

Why I think most people love Plinko is that you're guaranteed to walk away with something as it requires very little skill or knowledge.
Unless you're fucking retarded, miss all the prices and end up with just one Plinko chip that ends up in the $0.

You said it there...that scenario proves there are no guarantees on the Price is Right.

That's because it's one of the hardest games to win. I am always amazed, and excited for the winner, when I see somebody win all the prizes.
