Why is everybody assuming Jack's line to Kate, "You're not even related to him." is him acknowledging to her, "I am, you're not."?
I took it simply as, "You're not." Jack doesn't have to know he's related in order to say what he said to her. If they both know then it definitely has added meaning, but either way the emphasis is on Kate not being related, not Jack's relation.

Regardless, I think it'd be an odd move by the writers to let the viewers know repeatedly that Claire is Jack's half-sister, only to never have Jack find out himself.

The only possible scenario would be Claire dying, and I don't see that happening as the main female cast has dwindled down.
Plus, do you really think the producers think that the female cast has dwindled down so Claire can't die?? They have a smoke monster and a time traveling secret back room.

Does Claire have to be dead? She's already wandered off without Aaron, as far as we know. She might be dead, she might be entranced, or she might just be batshit crazy.
Either way, Aaron's already alone and heading towards Kate via Sawyer.

I wonder if Sawyer ends up staying behind to try and find Claire? Because it seems obvious that he's going to meet up with Kate at some point to give her Aaron, so maybe they end up having to decide whether to leave or not sometime shorty after he gets back, and he can't leave Claire behind. But of course Jack's tone last week made it sound like Sawyer didn't want to leave, and I doubt if Jack would sound annoyed with Sawyer like he did if he stayed behind to find Claire.

The missing piece is why do certain people get left behind, such as Jin. It is possible that everyone "thinks" Claire is dead because she can't be found.
