What a shitfest that turned into. I can't believe I was looking forward to Neil Diamond night when it was first announced. Can anybody honestly say that the producers don't want a David vs. David finale?
Castro: Nothing wrong with his rendition of FIBJ other than being dull, but I would have liked for him to pick an edgier (for Neil Diamond) song. Especially since Cook left so many songs on the table when he went obscure. After Paula's fuck up, not too surprising that "September Morn" sucked since he knew it was going to get shit on (even PAULA was going to pan it) before he actually performed.
Brooke: "I'm a Believer" was kind of a mess. "I Am I Said" started off really good (despite Diamond's dumb lyric change suggestion) until Rickey Minor's shitty elevator Muzak background arrangement kicked in. If she survives this week, she should go unplugged the rest of the way.
Archuleta: I could pick any number of random, drunk Red Sox fans from Fenway Park that could do a more fun and entertaining performance of "Sweet Caroline". Randy: "Yo! That was Da Bomb!!"
"America" flat out sucked. His voice cracked, he butchered the melody to hell with all his BS oversinging, all he did was sing "They're Comin' to America" about a million times, the "LET FREEDOM RING!" tag he put in at end was straight out of every bad theme park "America Sings" stage show. The only thing missing was the cheap pyro going off at the end.
Syesha: "Hello Again" was pretty, but she must be genetically incapable of singing a single song without going into "screaming diva" mode. At least here it wasn't as bad here as it was for her Whitney-Fantasia-Mariah performances. I think "Thank the Lord for the Night Time" was one of her better performances of the competition. The only thing I didn't really like was Rickey Minor's dull "generic Motown girl group" arrangement.
Going Home: The only surprise would be either of the Davids (Archuleta should be in the bottom 2 but won't be). I'll guess Brooke.

I think she was confused from having watched the dress rehearsals earlier.
This, I believe, should be changed. The judges should see and hear aired performances for the first time as they are performed. Not pre-performed.

Simon has said before that it is incredibly difficult for them to hear parts of the actual live performance and they form an opinion/judgment based on the rehearsal. I'm sure they were basing their notes off rehearsal. Obviously they have to be prepared to alter in case something happens, as did with Brooke last week, and a contestant muffs it in some way. Still, Paula is just clueless.

Talk about spending some time in the bottom 3. Syesha has spent five of the past seven weeks there:
Final 12: 10th/11th
Final 10: 8th/9th
Final 8: 6th/7th
Final 7: 5th/6th
Final 6: 5th
Final 12: 10th/11th
Final 10: 8th/9th
Final 8: 6th/7th
Final 7: 5th/6th
Final 6: 5th

Dang, Paula, never ceases to amaze me. It was hilarious to watch everyone's expression when it happened. A tremendous WTF was happening. I knew she must have been using notes from rehearsals. Paula always says she watches them at the rehearsals. Granted, she still should have picked up the mistake herself. Or the guys should have stopped her before she went on and on. It kind of shows they aren't paying much attention to the performances. Why should they? They just get paid millions to sit there.
Why is Castro among the finalists? Just shows how stupid this show is to have him on. If he were only funnier, he'd be this year's Sanjaya. He's got the stupid ass hair and inarticulate way about him. Worst, he sounds the same way in every song. Kids, say no to drugs.
I love the Arizona shore line change by Brooke too. Must be smokin' what Abdul and Castro have been smokin'.
Syesha was excellent. Sounds good in different songs and a very natural performer. If she gets voted off, she'll be fine. She's someone I thought was blah early on but has made great improvement by leaps and bounds.

My wife said that she thought Brooke was leaving just before we started the ep. Supposedly, she said this last night, too.

Comparing the footage of Brooke at the beginning of the season with performances from last night that she says were an attempt to be happy, it's clear just how much of her soul this show devoured. She seems like a good and decent person, and I really do hope she recovers from this experience.
