I realize that for god know's what reason, Archuleta will win, but oh my god is he terrible. He makes every song sound the same with the same little run at the end of every phrase, and he is never quite on pitch. He is just excruciatingly dull.

Syesha was the best tonight, yet they felt the need to sabotage her tonight to once again manipulate the results.

Weakest group ever I think, and if Archie-bot wins he will easily be the worst ido winner. Easily.

I took that the other way. I thought Simon was trying to rally votes to her by telling people she wasn't safe. She was clearly one of the top 2 tonight in performances.

I agree she was excellent. History has shown that when Simon pulls the "I think you might be in trouble" card it is all but over for the singer.

Most entertaining tonight:

1) Syesha
2) Paula
3) Everyone else

Did Paula call Syesha "Brooke"?

Sorry, Tom...have to disagree on the #1 'Most Entertaining Tonight'.

And the winnah is........Miss Paula Abdooooooooooooollllllll (Abdul, Abdul,Ab....)

Never thought she could top some of her past brainfarts...but this was positively diarrahetic!

Would love to see Paula & Brook duet to see who would melt down fastest.

Hope others are wrong about Syesha going home, but agree that she apparently doesn't have the fan base going on to keep her.

I voted for Jason anyway. He gets progressively worse each week. Tonight reminded me of a Senior Day performance in high school or the local Ruritan talent show/cakewalk. His recent performances are revealing him for what he is...a nice, goofy guy who can do a decent, laid-back Jack Johnson vibe but little else. I like the guy...he is charming and looks like a good bud to hang out with...but his performances are strictly amateur hour.

Can anyone here actually see buying or downloading a Jason Castro CD & playing it more than once?

Round 1:

Jason Castro - "Forever in Blue Jeans" Dull, boring, weak.

David Cook - "I'm Alive" A typical performance, not great, not horrible, just serviceable.

Brooke White - "I'm a Believer" Such a cheery performance, but nothing too vocally challenging.

David Archuleta - "Sweet Carolina" Yet another safe vocal, but it wasn't all that memorable.

Syesha Mercado - "Hello Again" I'm grateful there is someone left who can carry a melody, though the song was so-so.

Round 2:

Jason Castro - "September Morn" wake me up when he's done, that was brutally boring.

David Cook - "All I Really Need is You" A sappy song, but it was a good vocal.

Brooke White - "I Said I Am" a better effort from Brooke, but nothing truly outstanding on this song.

David Archuleta - "America" the lyrics are too repetitive, makes his vocals drone on and on, not a good song voice, but ended well.

Syesha Mercado - "Thanks the Lord for the Night Time" At least she's comfortable moving around the stage (no one else left can do it as well as Syesha).

-------------

Rankings

Enjoyable
Syesha Mercado

Solid but could have been better
David Cook
David Archuleta

Under-performed
Brooke White

Once was enough
Jason Castro

I think Jason is going home.

Maybe just me, but I got the distinct impression that anyone not familiar with Mr. Diamond's catalog before last night would wonder what all the fuss was about.

Not talking about the performances themselves...although they were underwhelming, for the most part...but the song choices seemed awfully bland.

Glad that they mostly stayed away from Ol' Neil's most grating, cloying tunes, but they also ignored some more obvious early hits with strong hooks & melodies ("Cherry, Cherry", "Solitary Man", "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon", etc.). I'm biased toward the early stuff since that was my first exposure to Neil (when he was a singer/songwriter before entering his Wayne Newton/Barbra Steisand phase in which the songs, orchestras, concerts, stage props, costumes, & everything got bigger...but not better, IMHO. I always thought of Neil as something of a maverick/rebel type of guy in the 60's, with his black outfits & vest, long sideburns, guitar slung over his shoulder ("Solitary Man" seemed to fit his persona)...then he morphed into an Elton John-ish, late Elvis-style performer with the most pretentious drivel being foisted upon us fans who had loyally supported him in his early solo career. In a nutshell, it seemed that Neil had 'sold out' for the big bucks. Good to see him at least attempting to return to his solid roots with his last album...hoping the new CD continues that effort to revive his early streak.

Or paying to see him in concert? I can see him doing a coffee-house tour, though.

Maybe this was the opening for us to say bye bye to Paula.

The show needs a bigtime makeover.. and Paula's meltdown had Simon looking good by saving her.

We need two new judges to pair with Simon, its beyond old.

I guess DC wears AC stuff because that would be AC/DC? Cute...

I am sick of Archuleta, but its likley a finale with him and DC, althouh Sayesha would be a welcome add to that.. I think Simon has been reading the tallies and knows she does not have the support.

But Brooke and Castro.. ugh they were bad, although Brooke salvaged Song #2, Castro was O for 2 and practically begging to be voted off.

Strange show, actually make it more watchable

Serious? I assume it's for his terminally ill brother, Adam Cook.

I totally did not get Syesha's "Hello Again" performance. From my memory, it's a sad somber song, isn't it? She was grinning throughout the performance. The vocals were okay, but can't she feel at all what the lyrics are about? I won't miss her if she's voted out, although Castro's my pick to go.

No DC wears a AC shirt, because it's to support his brother Adam who's really ill, and they had in the audience a few weeks back. That's why he has AC on his guitar every week to.

Well, I said I was out last week, and forgot to take it off my DVR so I went ahead and watched it... Man Im glad I did. How can they take Paula off the show? She is so bad, but thats what makes this show watchable now. Without her, then we need these no talent singers to entertain us.

Anyways, I think Simon was right and Syesha is in trouble. Sad really because she was clearly the best last night and is the only one I see who has steadily improved as the weeks went on.

Actually, that makes me think he'd be a good judge.

We would've heard "Shut it down!!" 30 seconds into Castro's "Memories" last week

I wish someone could explain something to me. Assuming posters to this forum are representative of the voting American public (big assumption, I know), and seeing as how everyone here agrees that Archuleta should have his vocal chords forcibly removed, who the fuck is voting for this little twit?

I agree with those who think that Syesha gave the best performance of the night. I even liked her barefoot-ness. I also agree that it probably won't be enough to save her.

Paula. What to say about Paula. Twelve step program, sweetie. That's all I got.

I think it's pretty clear that we're going to have a two-David final two. It's also clear that neither of these guys will make much of an "Idol", although David Cook would be more interesting than the teeny-bopper.

No, she did hear it. The judges view the rehearsal performances, and most of their notes and comments are actually based on those performances.

Their parents named them so they'd have the initials AC and DC?

More melancholic than sad (I'll spoiler the lyrics below to save space):

Spoiler:
Hello again, hello
Just called to say hello
I couldn't sleep at all tonight
And I know it's late
But I couldn't wait

Hello, my friend, hello
Just called to let you know
I think about you ev'ry night
When I'm here alone
And you're there at home, hello

Maybe it's been crazy
And maybe I'm to blame
But I put my heart above my head
We've been through it all
And you loved me just the same
And when you're not there
I just need to hear

Hello, my friend, hello
It's good to need you so
It's good to love you like I do
And to feel this way
When I hear you say, hello

Hello, my friend, hello
Just called to let you know
I think about you ev'ry night
And I know it's late
But I couldn't wait
Hello

My vote is for Brooke White. I understand where people are coming from with Syesha, but she put on a very nice performance where Brooke just sat behind a piano.

By the way, on the poll, if you click on one of the underlined numbers (the number of people who voted for that particular contestant), it will show you which DVDTalk users voted for which contestants.

I hadn't considered that the contestants rehearse in front of the judges. Makes Paula look even worse, though, because she always struggles to make coherent statements during the live show. Seems like she should have her comments well-rehearsed and appear more articulate and substantive.

I saw those results. Intriguing, to say the least. However, I'm beginning to think Idol manipulates the phone lines in such a way to undermine DialIdol's numbers. DI was nearly always accurate during Season 5, but not so much after that.

Syesha was clearly the best last night and shouldn't be in trouble, but she doesn't have the fanbase of the other contestants, so she'll always be in danger.

And boy-howdy, was Paula on some new drugs or what? The audience was stunned, Randy was stammering to cover, Simon was bewildered, and Ryan was looking around as if the roof had caved in. Even Jason Castro was giving Paula a WTF look. She was in a whole other universe.

i felt the same way. i love his early stuff and have ignored most of the other stuff so i didnt know half the songs that were played. Thank the Lord of the Night time and sweet caroline were the only tunes i was kind of happy to see picked. that slowed down version of Sweet Caroline was terrible, though, in my opinion. Cracklin Rose was missing.
