Okay I just have to ask this. I've only ever seen the series via DVD and thus the last episode I've seen is "Graduation." While the show is dated, its charming in its own way and i really enjoy it. I've heard that it gets even better the first couple years of college... is this true? or was high school really the best?

I agree to stop after 7, but not because they graduate, but because they ruin the best character Brandon, by having him treat Tracy the way he does. It is all these years later and that still bugs me. People are supposed to evolve, not regress. It was the same problem at the end of season 4 of Dawson's Creek. Dawson's future was with Gretchen, not to go back to Joey. Rant over.

'90210' spinoff details emerge
Planned show will focus on the Mills family
By JOSEF ADALIAN

The CW still hasn't greenlit its planned spinoff of "Beverly Hills, 90210" -- but details of the script are starting to leak out.

According to reports on casting breakdowns and TVTracker.com, the new take on the Aaron Spelling-Darren Star sudser will focus on the Mills family of BevHills and offer a lot more racial diversity than the original show.

Spoiler:
Matriarch of the family is Tabitha Mills, a 60-something actress/alchoholic who was a major star in the 1970s and had been linked to everyone from Warren Beatty to Jack Nicholson. After her latest bout at Betty Ford, Tabitha decides to try to live on her own in her BevHills estate.

Worried for his mom's safety, do-gooder son Harrison "Harry" Mills, a 1980s graduate of Beverly Hills High, decides to move back home to the 90210 after years in St. Louis. He brings with him his wife, Celia, an Olympic athlete who's looking forward to living in Cali, and ends up working as a personal trainer.

The couple have two 16-year-olds: Daughter Annie and adopted son Dixon. Annie is an emo/theater kid who's desperate to fit in with the cool crowd. Dylan, er, Dixon is a supersmart bad boy who has lingering social and behavioral issues -- and not an ounce of nerdiness in him.

According to the breakdowns, producers are open to actors of all ethnicities for the Dixon role, leaving open the possibility that the character won't be a white male.

As for the other teen denizens in the new "90210," writer Rob Thomas has also come up with:

Silver, aka Daphne Silver, a wannabe socialite who hosts her own YouTube series. She becomes good pals with Annie and has a crush on Dixon (as well as the only Jewish girl at BevHills High with a black boyfriend -- another hint that producers are considering making Dixon's character non-white).

Max Silver, Daphne's 24-year-old brother, is a working man who manages the family movie theater at the Century City Mall (the new show's version of the Peach Pit, perhaps?) He seems forever on the verge of a nervous breakdown and appears to be harboring some secrets.

"90210" geeks will note the Silvers share the same last name as the character played by Brian Austin Green in the original series.

Navid Shirazi produces the high school's student-run video newscast and is of Middle Eastern descent. He's the consummate high school politician.

Ethan Ward is a likable jock who falls out of favor with the "in" crowd and ends up hanging with the "90210" crew.

Naomi Bennett is Ethan's super-hot, ultra-rich ex-girlfriend. She appears to be a brat but will end up having more layers.

Jennie Garth leaves pilot amid "90210" buzz

By Nellie Andreeva
Wed Apr 16, 4:33 AM ET

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Jennie Garth has abruptly departed from a CBS comedy pilot, raising speculation that she will return to the "Beverly Hills, 90210" fold in a spinoff being developed at the CW network.

Garth had been cast in CBS' "My Best Friend's Girl," which revolves around two best friends whose relationship becomes complicated when one (Tim Peper) starts dating the ex-wife of the other (Josh Cooke).

Garth was to play the ex-wife. She left after the table read Monday, in what was described as a mutual decision between her and the producers. Garth has been coping with the death of her father, who passed away after she was cast in the project. Canadian actress Kristin Booth is replacing her.

Meanwhile, it had been reported that Rob Thomas, who wrote the script for the "90210" spinoff, has been looking to recruit Garth to reprise her role as Kelly Taylor. The character would possibly return to her alma mater as a fashion design teacher.

Ugh. Kelly was the most annoying character. Also, Donna was the fashion designer.

I had a big problem with that too. Tracy was a total babe and far cooler than Kelly.

It still has it's occasional moments, but not enough of them. To me, it was never the same after the High School years. The longer it went on, the worse it go. There's just a lot of stuff during the college and post college years which I simply didn't care for. At some point or other, just about every character becomes unlikeable. Also, a lot of the new characters they would bring in to replace departing ones did nothing for me either. (with the exception of those who would be romantic interests for Brandon).

Think I finally gave up watching it after Season 7 or so, but did tune in for the final episode. There was at least a little bit of redeeming payoff in the finale.

 Brandon deserved Kelly to turn him down after the way he treated Tracy.

I loved me some 90210, but as has been said the station has been full of rip-offs, clones, and similar shows for years. Does the 90210 name hold any cache at all, for execs to worry about tying a new show to it?

Either way, I'll probably give it a shot because Rob Thomas is a good show runner. I guess I just don't see the logic in bringing this franchise back, even if in name only.

No Luke Perry, no sale.

Spoiler:
Total agreement, too many CW shows have already been remakes of 90210 in some way. I'd like more Supernatural, please.

Does Luke Perry still have hair ?

I will check out seasons 8-10 mainly for Vanessa Marcil , i love her :)

Don't know if it's really his, but he looked pretty good in John From Cinicinatti.

That looks pretty real to me. He's got the usual 'male pattern' baldness going on.

you might be surprised at how good the first few season were. remember back then Fox was trying to make a name for itself and did some pretty daring things with this show. once they graduate highschool though things go downhill fast. basically it jumps the shark when Brandon`s parents leave.

I dont think the show was very good after High School and when regular cast members start leaving than time to call it a day.

CW Orders 90210 TNG to series

The CW has officially Ordered "90210" (The Next Generation) to series.

I'm actually looking forward to see where they take this!

Gizmo 05-11-08 07:49 PM

Well thats a big duhh

They got Kellie back as well!

DJariya 05-11-08 10:08 PM

It wouldn't shock me at all if they manage to get guest appearances from Ian, Tori or even Gabrielle Carteris (the stars who aren't doing shit right now).

So in other words, you mean the entire cast. ;)

Nick Martin 05-12-08 08:56 AM

Then it would have to be called 90210: The Same Generation wouldn't it?

I'll wait for the inevitable 90210: DS9 and skip this TNG. :)

Red Dog 05-12-08 09:12 AM

Kelly Taylor's occupation:

Spoiler:
Contrary to previous reports (which had Kelly Taylor being a fashion designer, which made no sense since that was Donna's career), word is that Kelly will be the guidance counseler at West Beverly High. I can't argue with that - she's been through it all: attempted rape, bullemia, drug addiction, fire burning victim, brainwashed, shot, cheated on, slut, absentee father, drug-addicted mother, etc.

rfduncan 05-12-08 09:52 AM

Oh boy... can't wait to see One O.C. Gossip Tree Creek. ;)
