And the writers wouldn't be writing if not for the actors who win the awards and see that there show/movie goes on for another few years so they have stable jobs.

One thing I have yet to hear...do these striking writers receive any money/compensation from the WGA? Its been 8-9 weeks now and thats a long time to be without any money.

Sometimes unions pay striking workers a small fee, but I don't know if that's the case here. The striking writers do continue to get any residuals, of course.

I am disappointed that the Globes were cancelled. I don' hold the writers responsible. I don't really support either side of the strike as I'm not informed enough to have a position for one of the other. But they're doing what they believe is right and so be it that something gets cancelled because of it.

I read that even before the WGA strike NBC had serious problems with advertisers due to their low rated shows. So bad that because they could not meet ratings expectations of many shows that had to offer partial refunds to advertisers. Keep in mind this was before the strike even started.

Of course, all it would take to end this is the studios fairly paying the writers for their work.

In a perfect world, the WGA would just go on strike against award shows and reality tv. That would be enough to make me pay dues to their union.

Why don't they just totally cancel the Golden Globes or even the Oscars this year? No awards, no news conference awards, just nothing...just like that cancelled MLB world series...

Why would they cancel the Oscars now? The strike could be over by then.

The Golden Globes aren't the most highly respected awards...so the notion that they would be canceled because they can't get stars to show up to their TV show would strip them of the little legitimacy they have left.

I always wonder who really watches award shows like these in this day and age. They seem so anachronistic to me. But apparently people do....

I so look forward to the beginning of the awards season and am very disappointed that I'll not have the opportunity to fast forward through the acceptance speeches.

I do enjoy watching the telecast and I love the Oscars telecast. Unfortunate that an exception wasn't reached.....for my own selfish reasons.

Even though I find all the pump and circumstance overblown, I do enjoy the show itself....too bad.
