Why is BBC America showing the American version of Dancing with the Stars?

I thought the purpose of BBC America was to show programs we couldn't get over here. Now they're showing the same crap we got on our crap networks a year ago. And advertising it like it's something special. And I used to love this channel for shows like the Office and Alan Partridge.

I think BBC America is supposed to show us things that the BBC airs. As I understand it, BBC does air Dancing with the Stars. It seems fair game, but I do lament them airing any of that reality crap.

That reality crap is as popular over there as it is here.

Sad state of affairs, but it's true.

BBC America co-produces Dancing with the Stars with ABC. I guess they want some more ad revenue from the cable audience who has never seen the show. Maybe the crappy covers that are sung on the show are expensive.

I was wondering this same thing when I turned on the set late last night and this was on. I was excited for a second, seeing if there'd be any Brit celebrities and how many I could recognize. I fully expected to see Richard Hammond dancing with one of the girls from B*Witched.

Why does A&E (Arts & Entertainment) show CSI: Miami?

Why does TLC (The Learning Channel) just show fashion and house decorating shows?

I'm not thread crapping, but I don't know why you're surprised by BBC America showing Dancing with the Stars. Most of these so-called "speciality channels" don't have anything good on, anymore. At one time, TLC used to show cool shows about UFO's, Ghosts, etc. A&E used to show decent stuff as well. Even channels like Discovery aren't what they used to be.

I'm surprised that anybody even bothers to tune into these channels anymore.

BBC America is already disappointing, but this is just the first nail in the coffin of its eventual demise I imagine.

The channel should focus current BBC programming. So, the BBC show's it first, but BBC America shows the same programs a few hours later in American prime time. Not months or years later. For daytime and after-hours programming they can show classic programming and/or programming from BBC2-4. I can live with commercials, but the edits for content have to go.

There should be no place for the American version of Dancing with the Stars. They had their own version -- why not show that?

We got a trial sub to BBC America form DISH some months back. I was excited at first, but most of the programming was crap. Same shows you could see on Home and Garden and other channels. They did have some good British shows on: Coupling, My Family, etc., but they were shortened versions cut down from 30 minutes as they would air in the UK to 22 minutes with commercials. I'd rather just stick to the DVD's of the shows I like.

It seems like a lot of niche channels do this at some point. Look at Sci Fi Channel with its Braveheart and ECW Wrestling. But I agree that this channel is already on the way down... it seems like the same ten shows get aired constantly when I go through the listings.

It's really disappointing that BBC America has turned into shit.

Did Bonnie Hammer take over operations or something?

To each their own. DWTS is far from crap nor should it be lumped with all the other reality show. But I would agree about BBC America showing the British version.

I am actually glad they are showing it, because I missed the earlier seasons of DWTS (I only started to watching to see the Heather Mills trainwreck and then I got hooked.)

I am enjoying watching it on BBC America because they edit the tedious results show into the end of the performance episode. Cuts way down on the fluff.

Ive always wondered why they dont just give us the actual BBC. Is there any reason that the BBC cant be put on cable and satellite services in the US?

I believe there are multiple BBC channels in the UK.
