Probably one factor that contributed to the cancellation was the WGA strike. I believe The 4400 would normally start shooting their season in January or February. Plus, the ratings weren't spectacular either for a basic cable show, but it did have a good following.

I thought The 4400 got pretty good ratings or USA. Wonder if this has anything to do with the strike.

I guess USA has alot of shows on their development table if they can afford to cancel these shows. I wonder what's going to fill the Sunday at 9, 10pm timeslots next summer. I think the science fiction themed evening was perfect.

Truthfully, the last season finale of TDZ was an appropriate series finish. I'm a bit sad, but I'll get over it.

Surprised theyre cancelling the 4400. I'm a little behind on it. I'm only through the first few episodes of Season 3. Season 3 seems like it will be boring. Don't care much for the rapidlty aging Lilly storyline. Hope it gets better. Sad they won't eventually resolve all the storylines.

What?! This sucks. I was just starting to get into The 4400. I always wanted to watch Dead Zone... Does anyone else suppose this is happening as a result of the strike continuing? Perhaps the network feels the audience will dwindle if they had been unable to go on air again for another year.

I think the third season is one of those ones that probably played better on DVD than on a week-to-week basis. I think a lot of people regard it as fairly weak, but I thought it was ok. That said, the fourth season really picks up and starts moving the storyline forward, which is why the news of the cancellation is especially disappointing.

I never watched The Dead Zone on the air but I enjoyed them on DVD. I guess I will take my time when the next set comes out and really savor the episodes. I have to say that they really took the concept farther than I ever thought they could and made some outstanding shows. Shame I never totally forgave them for that AWFUL change in the shows opening music.

Yeah, that change was pretty bad. The new music didn't match the images at all.

The 4400, started great then sunk really fast after season 2. Season 3 & 4 were barely watchable IMO... But I would probably have stuck wih it if they continued. No love for TDZ so no real loss for me there, I caught it a couple of times and thought it was Ok. But it does suck when programs you like get cancelled before a wrap-up episode or season...

Agree that a 2 hour TV movie would be a nice way to wrap-up The 4400...

It really pisses me off when they do this. USA has crap for a lineup without these shows. They won't have my viewer ship next summer.

Even if they come out with something new I don't watch shows that never get wrapped up. When a network pulls this crap they lose a viewer.

No wonder everyone likes all the reality crap...they get some conclusion.

Well USA won't have a damn thing to air next summer if the writer's strike doesn't end. I can probably understand why they dropped The 4400 because viewership has dropped considerably since the series debuted as a mini-series. I think the Dead Zone was always close to cancellation. Plus, USA and other cable networks doesn't get the same ad revenue as the big networks and probably didn't really make any money off these shows.

So be it all shows must come to an end...that's a given but you really stick it to your viewers when you don't wrap up a series they've been into for 5 years!

4400 should have just been a movie to begin with. I will miss it though, Dead Zone has been the suck for like two seasons now.

exactly exactly exactly my thoughts...after season 2, it just went downhill...was a major chore continuing to watch...

While I think the 4400 definately went down hill in the last couple seasons (started in S3 and continued way in S4), the show deserved a series finale.

I just re-watched the final episode of The Dead Zone and for those of you that had given up of the show for whatever reason, you're doing yourself a major disservice in not watching at least this final show. I think they somehow knew it might be the end for them. It really is a fantastic episode. So very much happens in such a short time. There are some really great performances here from Hall and a particularly heartbreaking scene with
Spoiler:
Bruno as the late Sheriff
that's the most unique use of a vision in the show yet. We get some resolution of the season-long conflict of Johnny and Sarah at odds and they definitely touch on Armageddon. It works as an open-ended finale where they could do a feature later on maybe. I think it was time to end the series though. I will miss seeing Nicole. The last scene of hers has a stunning closeup of her face. She's breathtaking. There's a great guest spot in this episode as well that calls back to the original Dead Zone film. One of the best episodes of the series. Maybe THE best.

Dead Zone has been unwatchable for at least 2 years now but 4400 was at least cheesy fun.

You know, generally speaking I would have thought that any organized campaign to save a show would wait until after the writer's strike was resolved.
