The reviews have been horrible. Supposedly one of the worst of the new season.
I'll watch some Angels reruns instead. |
This was middling as I'd rather be watching Joseph than Mick on this show. But I'll continue to record it for weekend viewing since not much else is on on Friday nights (though Friday Night Lights will get my live viewing in that timeslot).

Ha ha, CBS canceled "Close to Home" for this.
"Moonlight" (households: 5.8/11, adults 18-49: 2.5) Last year: "Close to Home" (households: 7.6/13; adults 18-49: 3.0 on 9/22/06) |
I thought it was pretty bad, especially the acting was horrible. I only liked it because it was about Vampires, and btw i don't drink blood ;)

As to it being "about vampires": seems to me taking away all the stuff that makes a vampire fun (spikes, true daylight harm, holy water, etc) drains all the interest out of making them vampires in the first place. |

I also felt that a real cheat of the pilot episode is how they automatically established the "rules" and also the fact that he is a "good" vampire in the the very first scene of the show with that fake interview. That was some very lazy writing and clunky storytelling right there. The pilot episode should have showed us HOW he came to be a good vampire and decided to do what he does. Just plunking us into this world by saying "Oh, I got sick of the killing so now I do good" was cheap. It was almost like the writers watched Angel for a template but then forgot that his backstory had already been explained on Buffy. |

Good observation and I've made this point for some time now. Modern Vampires are nothing more than infected Humans who want to either party all night at Raves or fall in love with people they can't have in this day and age. All the metaphysical aspects have been abandoned for modern audiences. How many recent Vampire films have we seen where the Vampires simply laugh off Holy Water attacks or being shown a cross? |

By the end of the 06’-07’ PTTV Season, it was bringing in the lowest numbers for CBS. Close to Home (CBS) was beating Las Vegas (NBC) in the ratings every week last season but Las Vegas (thankfully) is the number one show in its timeslot… 9:00-10:00 1. “Las Vegas” (Season Premiere) (NBC) 9.02m 2. “Moonlight” (Series Premiere) (CBS) 8.62m Moonlight looks like a show for the ‘Over 80’ crowd. It comes on right after the ‘Over 70’s’ crowd show, Ghost Whisperer. |
I thought the first episode was kind of dragging, and not really setting up to much for the rest of the season, other than the possible relationship between Mick and the reporter.
Then again, I was also watching the episode half asleep, so who knows :-) I must say, though, Jason Dohring's character was Logan Echolls from Veronica Mars-- the mannerisms, the way he said things--- everything about him. It made it hard to watch and not wait for Kristen Bell to walk into the room :-) |
I liked the first episode a lot. I have a feeling it will pick up after the pilot because usually with pilots they have a lot of stuff they have to get out of the way. Thought the cast pulled it off well. I was really impressed with O'Laughlin.

The Good
Marshall made an appearance My Immortal it's kinda like Angel The Bad it's NOT Angel not enough action not enough nudity |
can't wait for the second episode tonight! wonder what is gonna happen next! :)
|
The second episode was pretty dull for about 58 minutes (for its timeslot), but the final couple of minutes almost warrant one more sampling next week, but the show suffers from having a non-charismatic lead vampire who just doesn't seem too smart given all the life experience he should have under his belt. Also, the cheesy blue screen during the driving scenes were just horrendous in this day and age of TV production. I am fairly certain this show will not return in the calendar year of 2008.

2nd ep was just sort of dull... Story line was something more fitting for The Incredible Hulk in the late 70s... whole lot of whiner crap, angst, over thinking, then the last few min of the ep: "VAMPIRE ANGRY!! VAMPIRE SMASH!!!" and of course the classic "Don't look at meeee..." when it was over..
They would be better off pushing the whole vampire issue more.. In this last ep he might as well a "Highlander" being it was more about his age (or lack of aging) then it was him being a blood eater.. IMO we have not really gotten much of anything vampire wise.. A snarl to show some tiny fangs, bad contacts lens and some weak wire work jumps/falls.. Even that hack Uwe Boll did better "vampire" stuff in BloodRayne... I don't expect it to go slow motion $$$$ cgi like the Blade films or anything but at least make the vampire world interesting.. Even the lower budget vampire world of the Blade TV show was sort of interesting and different. |
I dont know how long Moonlight is going to last. As others already have stated , its too much of a knock off from Angel though Angel was so much better. Last night they made a mistake. Since when do vamps see their own reflection on tv. ?
The story line is kind of cheesy and having a choice between Moonlight and BloodTies.. BloodTies would win hands down. |
Against my better judgement I watched the episode last night. Terrible. The lead actor has about as much charisma as my little toe.
|
Watched last night's episode for 30 minutes and bailed...nail in the coffin for me.

Have they mentioned when he got turned? I thought in the premiere Logan said something about being 400 years old and Mick being 90, but I guess he was talking about total age. I guess Shannyn Sossamon is only going to pop up in flashbacks, if at all, since it looked like her face melted during Beth's vision of that fire as a kid. |
Really, really bad. I have a problem with someone being 90 years old and being so damn stupid. Lamest, weakest vampire I've ever seen.
|
This isn't priority viewing for me, so if it goes I really won't care. I never thought that Alex O'Loughlin could carry his own series. He was good as Hiatt on The Shield, but not leading man material. Maybe if this gets the axe......Jericho could take this spot?
|
Thought the show was just okay but like others have said the lead just has no charisma.
|
I just gave up on it and I'm usually a pushover for this kinda stuff-- I watched every episode of Blade the series.
If this show can't keep someone as gullible as me entertained for the first 2 episodes I think they're not gonna last long. |
This is up against Friday Night Lights?!? Wow. Talk about shows of a different caliber (and style too).
