I purchased Season One and Two recently. I'd never seen the show before. Well, I watched the entire first season... and I thought it was just okay. Honestly, there were some stand-out episodes, but a lot of them were pretty weak IMHO. I'm already about eight episodes into season two though and I'd say it's picking up and starting to get more interesting. Hopefully the series is as good as everyone says it is Seasons 3 to 5 (or 6... depending on who you ask). That will make watching these earlier seasons worthwhile.

I think they're were a lot of great episodes from 1 & 2, but it did get better starting with Season 3. And I think Season 6 has really good stand alone episodes.

As a firm fan of this show, I will agree that seasons 1-6 were the best, but there are great shows all the way to the end. Watch it all.

Does FX count as sydication? I'm sure I saw it again on TV in the last couple years and it might have been on FX.

Great episode and I always wondered what the big deal was as far as not showing it again. There were far worse scares and subjects during other one off episodes, but Home gets all the attention. In fact, there are things shown during many episodes of CSI that are far worse than the gore and subject matter of Home.

You're both sorta correct:
FOX started rating their live action programming in 1997 much after the original 10/11/96 broadcast.

Another case of Wiki being wrong. It's been on TV again in the last few years (2004 +). As I posted earlier, probably as part of a viewers choice X-Files marathon on FX.

In Seasons 7 and 8, I agree that there were some great episode. But Season 9... no, not at all. IMO, there was not a single great episode in that entire season (but there were quite a few bad ones).

No, it's correct. FOX NETWORK has only aired it twice, the original broadcast and the Halloween special. FX can air it to it's hearts content, and usually do during those "fan favorite" days. They're owned by the same company but there are in fact different channels.

I didn't read it as pertaining to only the original Fox network, but rather it saying it hasn't aired on TV since. I see the connection now.

Saw that one a few nights ago and it was awesome! I think what I LOVE about the show is I remember Smoking Man being a big character. When I got the sets and saw the pilot, he was already there. So he wasnt like added in for suspense, he was always there. Cool detail I thought.

Prepare then to be blown away on how much his character fits in before it's all said and done. Defiantely one of the high points fo the show overall.

Favorite part of S6:

I thought "4-D" in S9 was pretty cool as was "Audrey Pauley" and "Sunshine Days". I think a lot of people were just so damned blinded by the essential replacement of Mulder and Scully that they let that cloud the quality of those final episodes. Once Reyes and Doggett hit their stride, they are more than ample replacements (inverse since Doggett is the skeptic). The writers just took too long getting there trying to work all three into the storylines when they should have been bonding a duo.

I think Carter has gone on record saying he tried to convince Fox to turn the X-files into a spin-off once Duchovney left but they wouldn't have any part of it. Hand off the reigns to Dogget and Reyes and you have a new series isntead of dragging down the parent show. This was before all the CSI, Buffy, and L&O spin-offs. I bet they wouldn't hesitate if the show was on today.

We're watching the series sets. I've seen them all before, but Mrs Danger had only seen a couple of episodes. I only bought 1-6, and I only got season 6 because I think it had a few glowing embers of a once-great program. But it's pretty clear that the writing staff, the producers, the directors, and the stars are getting tired.

Robert Patrick really tried hard, and I liked his work, but he didn't have enough help.

Anyway, we just watched the first episode of Season 5. Mrs Danger is still enjoying it! Woo hoo!

Is anyone here excited about JJ Abrams X-Files rip-off FRINGE?

I just finished S3 and in the middle of S4.
Loved it for the most part, though some of the episodes I really didn't care for.
But the great ones make up for it.

My nickname for Season 9 is The X-Files: R.F.D. because it is more like a spin-off instead of like the earlier seasons of the show (in which "one man's crusade" was a very central theme).




(P.S. if you don't get the reference, it's to Mayberry R.F.D., the spinoff continuation of the Andy Griffith Show)

The show through season 6, IMHO, is top flight. I've never been a huge fan of season 1. Everyone was still finding their rythyms and Gillian Anderson was not only radically different looking than she would look through the rest of the series, I got the sense she was struggling a little as an actress to find her characters voice and place in the show. Not sure if I've ever seen an actor improve as dramatically over the course of a series as her. She went from feh! in the first season to stunningly good by the end. Her work since X-Files has been pretty freaking impressive though I think she still struggles to find roles due to typecasting.

In truth, she was a very green actress when the show first filmed (she was 24). I have to agree that she'd never have been able to pull off The House of Mirth without the substantial acting development she culled from working on X-Files.

Anyone ever go to those X-Files conventions? Or was I the only geek in here heh.
