What television genre do you hate the most?
For me it's sitcoms. I have not watched a sitcom regularly since the 1980's.

Local news
One-man angry punditry
Tabloid "news" magazines
Pretty much any style of program that generates ad revenue through fear-mongering.

It is hard to say. I mean Survivor basically started the genre. but I will not watch Big Brother or any of the other derivatives. The same is somewhat true for Talent. I will watch Hell's Kitchen, but would gouge out my own eyes before watching American Idol, Dancing/Skating/Hopscotching with the Stars.
I will not watch an E.T., Inside Edition, type "news" show where everyone finds out what type of water Britney was drinking last week.

It's funny, I used to watch procedurals all the time and never watched serials. Then about the time 24 started, I started watching serials all the time and now never watch procedurals.
Reality shows for me I either love (Survivor, TAR, Hogan Knows Best, Gene Simmons) or hate (any relationship shows and most talent shows).

While not specifically listed.....any show about cops, FBI agents, lawyers, doctors & criminals.
These are professions I prefer to avoid having to interact with in my daily life. Why are the so over represented on TV?

Reality tv, the downfall of our society. In all seriousness, at least in europe, they show nudity and sex on reality shows, but not in good ole' USA. They know why people are really watching it for.

Hour long dramas set in hospitals. Hour long fantasy dramas set in jungles or outer space. Hour long dramas with housewives.
Teams of investigators solving crimes that aren't CSI or Without A Trace: Cold Case, Numbers, Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer, Matlock.
Reality TV doesn't include Survivor or Amazing Race, though. Nothing about that is reality, it's a game show with contestants competing for a prize. The only difference between Survivor and Deal or No Deal is bugs and briefcases. Survivor is just one long episode of Fear Factor, and it's no secret that FF was a game show with a $50k prize.

Uhhhh, Amazing Race won the Emmy for Best Reality show for 2 straight years. So it does fall into that genre.

Yes I think most reality shows are crap, but if you were a TV executive and had the chance to greenlight a new and very expensive scripted show that may or may not get good ratings or a Reality show that will almost certainly get good ratings and make you and your network lots of money...what would you do?
I'm all for more scripted programs, but from a business standpoint, I think greenlighting a good reality show that will make lots of money, get good buzz in the press would be the smarter move.
