HGTV Design Star Discussion Thread

It's that time again! Design Star starts up a new season tonight at 10 PM. I cannot get enough of these competition reality shows. My schedule is all set for tonight-the finale of the Next Food Network Star from 9 to 10 and the first episode of DS from 10 to 11.

Well the cast is now set and the competition starts up for real next Sunday at 9 PM. They are in Vegas for this season and the clips that were shown make it look like they are going to make over Wayne Newton's pad. My early favorite is for the truck driver, but this can very easily change in time.

I liked the space, And loved how the sunken dinner table came out, that and both bedrooms turned out very well.

the whole bar thing was a mess, as was the area where the 'carpenter' was whipping something up.

My local SF guy kicked ass with his carpentry skills..

Here's an article about him.

I think the right person went home... if it wasn't going to be her than it should have been the "green guy". It also would have been okay if the chick that did the bar area got the boot... I totally agree with Vern, in all of Las Vegas, she couldn't find a bar stool? And finish the paint job?
Sparkly and Will Smith did a fab job and got along beautifully..

Two hopefuls became team captains.

They picked teams 'school yard' style.

They had to redesign a kitchen/dining room with a $10k budget and video tapes of the owners wishes, and had only 28 hours over three days.

One team went smoothly... the other not so much.

In the end...

Spoiler:
Both team captains had their shows canceled... Organic Josh and Neeraja.

Yep... she had to go. She bombed last week and again this week. Shouldn't a tape measure be attached to their hips.. she's supposed to be a 'designer'.. how can she do anything without it?

So far.. the best seems to be Sparkle Josh.

Now that Organic Josh is out, can we just call the other guy Sparkles?

I'm pleased to see hippie Josh go. The truck driver has a major chip on his shoulder. There should be some good "drama" with him. As of right now, I'm rooting for Will Smith.

Organic and Neeraja are losers. Glad they are gone.

Robb is next on the chopping block I'm sure of it.

Adriana impressed them with her carpenter skillz, but sparkles nailed the accesories.

Adios to
Spoiler:
Adrianna and Scott.
I don't understand the appeal of Todd. The guy is in his mid-30's and he still thinks that he's some sort of rad surfer dude. I'm rooting for Will at this point and would like to see Todd and Robb the truck driver have their shows cancelled.

It was definitely unique and I know that was the point of the exercise. I would just like to see a design of his where he leaves his skateboard at home.

Todd is killing in the execution, I was surprised that Sparkles Josh stayed over Scott. As I think Scott was the better designer. I think they played that one a little bit around the tv personality over the design ethic.

Will surprised me and I really liked his room, I think I liked it better than Robb's who annoys me.

That's exactly what Vern wants to see. Why do I think this guy still lives in his parents basement and he pays no rent?
Scott's room was way over the top. I was surprised that Josh's room didn't come out well... I don't think he was into it this week, he seemed preoccupied.

Todd's room blew me away... impractical, but damned it was amazing to look at.

Leo, the guy who was eliminated in the premiere ep week 1 was my architect 2 years ago for a house renovation project, a shame he could not have made it through it would have been fun to see him in the final mix.

I really did not like this episode at all, a complete waste of effort.

This show lost the HOT and the SPARKLE all in the same episode... how sad.
