2007 Primetime Emmy Nominations
#26
Well FNL did get two nominations. But that is not nearly what it deserves for such and amazing show. I cannot comprehend how FNL didn't dominate the categories. It should have been the most nominated drama ... period.

After reading the thread with the 'shortlist' of nominees, I can't believe who actually got nominated... I think the emmy voters are just going off name recognition again...because honestly, I used to love 24, but even Kiefer was subpar this year. Kyle Chandler, Matthew Fox, Michael C. Hall - all more deserving. All the nominations outside of acting for 'The Sopranos' are IMO, people voting who USED TO LIKE it. (I thought the last few seasons were decent, but not at the level of excellence it was for the first 3 years) It ain't got nothing in the writing/directing department on shows like The Shield, The Wire, Friday Night Lights and Lost.
I love House and watch Grey's every week but best Drama Series? No way in hell. I watch house for Hugh Laurie - I couldn't give a shit about the medical plots that drag the show down and there isn't enough of the great character moments that keep the show afloat to justify this nod. Grey's has just been a step by step guide of 'what not to do' this past year and has turned into one of the Soapiest shows on primetime. Knowing that it stole a slot from other truly GREAT shows kind of makes me fume... my 5 shows for Drama series would have been (from the 10 in the running): Rome, Lost, Friday Night Lights, Dexter and then probably Boston Legal (of course, in actual fact from all other shows it would have included Deadwood, The Wire, The Shield and Rescue Me).
I'm really just stunned by the lack of anything truly surprising or innovative in these nominations... so pissed off right now.

Ding, Ding, Ding!!!!
They did 8 episodes this season and you would think they cured cancer.
Yeah, yeah... it's a good show... but Aida Whatshername and Bracco? Please.

I don't mind that Joe Douchebag's Blog has a myopic list or that some silly award show from MTV or E! goes for ratings, but these people profess to be the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and one wonders if they've even seen a television this century.

Masi Oka a supporting actor? The Academy are villains. Villains! He's the main character!
And "Make Love, Not Warcraft" better win. That was definately one of the year's comedy highlights.
Not sure why Doctor Who was shutout, unless it doesn't qualify.

Speaking of the "Best Original Music & Lyrics" category, "Let's Go to the Mall" from How I Met Your Mother was snubbed

Anyone think "Emmy" missed the ball by nominating Imperioli instead of Robert Iler for Best Supporting Actor? I know there are a lot of "AJ Haters" in the fourm, but I though Iler was GREAT in the final batch of episodes, while Imperioli was little more than a guest star.
Agree with the statements about Brocco too...she did absolutely nothing to deserve a nomination. All her nomination does is take votes away from Aida and guarantee neither of them will win.

As a HUGE fan of Boston Legal, let me say that there's no way on earth that it should have picked up a best drama nod. It's a fun, entertaining show but is so insubstantial and lightweight. When you look at the run of episodes that closed the season of Lost, especially the finale that I consider one of the greatest season finales ever, it's shocking it wasn't nominated. I'm speechless about that.

I'm a huge fan of BL too, but I've made no secret of the fact that it is so not a drama. However, since the Emmys keeps inexplicably rewarding it with nominations, I can see why DEK continues to submit it as a drama.
Also, I found S3 to be a sizeable let-down from the first 2 seasons. I certainly won't be purchasing the DVD.

I can't recall a year in my years of observing the Emmy noms when at least a good portion of the nominees weren't old and tired or just plain inexplicable. Say what you may about the Oscars, but their nominations never piss me off to the same extent.
Hooray, though, for Neil Patrick Harris finally getting nominated for How I Met Your Mother. Actually, the comedy noms in general were very good and a fine mix of the popular and the smaller favorites.

Like das said, I think the Emmys did a reasonable job in the 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s of nominating the most worthy shows. Of course, back then, you basically only had the Big-3 networks so the pool was so much smaller, which made the job easier for the nominating committee.

I don't know if I'd say that. If anything, with more channels, there's a lot of crappy programming.
While this is a great age of drama, we've been in the comedy dark ages for some time.

But now, with so much quality original cable programming, maybe it would make some sense to bring it back to bring recognition to shows like The Shield which never get recognized by the Emmys.
