Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

My dad has Direct TV and he noticed he now has NBA TV so they must be adding it to some of the lesser plans.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

It is 2019 and they should carry ESPN Classic in HD though maybe that and VH1 Classic will never get a HD feed.

Last week was a pain in the ass any my Genie DVR went dark twice and they said they did a new software update that messed things up.

Also last Sat Nov 2 a lot of channels had pixellation and the picture was freezing.

Yup. I was getting error 722 frequently for a few days. Can't wait to ditch the dish soon.

Fuck, another price increase in January

Shit, if only Spectrum SportsNet was on another service like YouTube TV or Hulu, I would bail. It's getting so ridiculously expensive. Also, I only keep it because it's also a work tax write off for me because of sports.

Right now, I have around $50 off per month in customer retention credits, which has lowered my bill. Once that expires, not sure what I will do.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

I've got a few months left of credits. Supposedly Directv isn't giving out much any more. If we can't get more credits after these expire, we'll probably drop it completely.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

Directv is dropping the El Rey Network and Fusion on Jan 23, 2020

Are those networks going off air or some carriage dispute?

Fusion always shows the same old shows and they have no new original programming.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

Too bad about El Rey; they had a good mix of cult programming... Godzilla movies, Kung Fu movies, some decent reruns of old shows like Miami Vice and Incredible Hulk.

I don't think I ever watched Fusion.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

Starz Encore Action picked up the Miami Vice shows.

I liked the Director's chairs shows on El Rey.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

That's disappointing about El Rey. I've been watching the cop show 19-2 on there, which is an import from Canada and it's pretty decent.

I also like the Kung Fu movies they show. I'm guessing the ratings for the network must not be good for what they're charging DirecTV.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

Fusion and El Rey Network

Our rights to provide Fusion and El Rey Network channels expire on 1/23/20.

While we will no longer offer these two services, we continue to provide many other lifestyle and entertainment services including A+E, AMC, Fuse, IFC, Sundance TV, Syfy, and Vice, among others. We regret any inconvenience.

So they will remain on the air but not on Directv?

The rights on DirecTV expired, but they aren't going out of business. But losing DirecTV's carriage will hurt both networks.

The Audience Network will cease operation.

The content will transition to HBO Max.

The 2nd season of Condor didn't air in 2019, so I guess it will move to HBO Max this year.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

That sucks

I will miss the concerts (Though they showed the same ones all the time) and Off Camera with Sam Jones and I hope they can find a way to keep them on the air.

Guitar Sessions was another good show though it has been awhile since they had a new episode.

Wonder what will happen to Mr. Mercedes. Hopefully it continues but I'll have to find another to view if it does.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

DirecTV has put the "News Mix" back into the lineup, after an absence of maybe 5 years; ch 200. Only four windows but still worthwhile. CNN, Fox, MSNBC & BBC World.

No signs that the AUDIENCE channel is going anywhere yet

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

For those who missed it. DirecTV added Spectrum SportsNet Los Angeles last week. It's the Los Angeles Dodgers network. Channel 690.

However, with no baseball, right now it's basically re-runs the Dodgers magazine shows.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

More bad news

As of June 1, 2020, a new change in law means some DIRECTV customers can no longer access ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and CW programming via out-of-market stations (typically from New York, Los Angeles or Washington) as they previously had before. Fortunately, you will continue to receive ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and CW local programming.

Until recently, the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act Reauthorization (STELAR) Act allowed satellite companies like DIRECTV to provide you certain out-of-market broadcast network stations. Unfortunately, Congress decided not to renew key portions of this law, over the objections of AT&T, consumers groups and others.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

I've had Direct TV for a year now... first time using them. I really have no other options other than Spectrum where I live. Gotta say DTV isn't awful but it isn't revolutionary either. Can't stand that they have TONS of paid programming channels muddying up the few channels I actually care about. On June 15th, my promotional items will expire (I think $60 / month of credit). If they don't help me out, I'm going to cancel and go with Hulu Live TV I think.

You can set up the guide to only show channels you want to see.
