"JOURNEYMAN"-- From Emmy Award-winning writer-producer Kevin Falls ("The West Wing") and Emmy Award-winning director-producer Alex Graves ("The West Wing"), "Journeyman" is a romantic mystery-drama about Dan Vasser (Kevin McKidd, "Rome"), a San Francisco newspaper reporter and family man who inexplicably begins to travel through time and change people's lives. Along the way, he also must deal with the difficulties and strife at work and home brought on by his sudden disappearances. However, his freewheeling travels through the decades reunite him with his long-lost fiance Livia (Moon Bloodgood, "Day Break") -- which complicates his present-day life with wife Katie (Gretchen Egolf, "Martial Law") and their son. Reed Diamond ("Homicide: Life on the Street") and Charles Henry Wyson ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") also star. "Journeyman" is a production of 20th Century Fox Television. Falls is executive producer and writer; Graves is executive producer and director of the pilot.

The new dramedy "Lipstick Jungle," from bestselling author Candace Bushnell ("Sex and the City"), is set to debut in January 2008 on Sundays (10-11 p.m. ET). Created by Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Helene, ("How I Met Your Mother"), the series involves the lives of three high-powered friends ... who are determined to achieve their dreams and to do it on their own terms.

Wow, that sounds like one of those parodies you'd see them watching on Family Guy.

I'm not surprised that Studio 60 was canceled. I'm still going to watch the final 6 episodes and pick up the box set when it's released, even if it doesn't contain any extras a la Sports Night.
The new show I'm most interested in is Life and that is because of Damian Lewis. He was the best part of Band of Brothers.
I'll probably end up recording at least the pilot of all of the new shows to see which ones I like.
Kudos to NBC for ordering 30 episodes of Heroes and The Office as well as 25 episodes of My Name is Earl and last, but not least, renewing Scrubs for one more season, even if it's only 18 episodes. Better than nothing.

I read somewhere that Journeyman (with that title it should be about the life and times of a roadie for Journey) tested well with focus groups, not that that means that it's any good. The whole "he also must deal with the difficulties and strife at work and home brought on by his sudden disappearances" thing sounds like it could be painful to watch if they spend to much time on it.
But, I'll give it a shot, even if only because Moon Bloodgood
is in it.

Very happy about the move of 30 Rock to 8:30pm. Hopefully the ratings improve now that it won't get killed by Grey's & CSI. From NBC's standpoint, The Office is a much better choice to lead off an hour over 30 Rock & Scrubs.

Let's assume he's a Nielsen household and CSI isn't going anywhere without his viewership.

If NBC had wanted to give FNL a REAL chance since the show is so critically acclaimed (yet lacking the numbers), they could have put it right after Heroes Monday night.
To me relegating it to Fridays shows they have no real hopes of keeping it around, though I'm certainly glad it's coming back at all.

Monday night wouldn't work well for FNL, unless it didn't start until January, with NFL competition. I also don't see it as a 10 pm show. Doesn't seem to fit with Heroes either.

"Heroes: Origins," an innovative new spin-off that each week will introduce a new character -- one of whom will be chosen by viewers through the "Heroes" website on NBC.com to become a cast regular the following season.

THE FUTON'S UPFRONT NOTES: NBC
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- A round-up of the various developments from NBC's upfront presentation that may have gotten lost in the shuffle:
-- "The Apprentice's" future still remains up in the air. Despite being assured a seventh season back in June (read the story), the network's veteran reality competition series is now apparently in limbo. It's understood NBC Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly will meet with executive producers Donald Trump and Mark Burnett to discuss the show's fate in the coming months.
-- The Peacock has pulled the plug on its veteran drama "Crossing Jordan" after six seasons. Also not making the cut: 10 members of the Peacock's 2006-2007 season freshman class - comedies "20 Good Years," "Andy Barker, P.I." and "Thank God You're Here"; dramas "The Black Donnellys," "Kidnapped," "Raines" and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip"; and alternative efforts "Grease: You're the One That I Want," "Identity" and "The Real Wedding Crashers." Said number is down from last season, which saw 19 series get the axe.
-- Extended seasons are in store for "Heroes," "The Office" and "My Name Is Earl." The network has ordered 25 episodes of "Earl" as well as 30 half-hours of "The Office," five of which will be paired together as one-hour specials. As for "Heroes," 24 episodes are on tap for the 2007-2008 season as well as six episodes of "Heroes: Origins," an "innovative new spin-off that each week will introduce a new character -- one of whom will be chosen by viewers through the 'Heroes' website on NBC.com to become a cast regular the following season." The project, which will have a separate writing and producing team from the parent series, will air either after "Heroes" concludes its second season or as a bridge between two of its broadcast pods.
-- It's not clear when NBC's window on the new season of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" will begin. The network announced on Sunday its cable sibling USA will take over the first-run broadcasts of the "Law & Order" spin-off this fall (read the story) however no timeframe was specified.
-- Additional pilot orders are expected in the near future. The new projects will be considered for possible midseason bows on the Peacock should its needs merit.

From the NBC.com preview for Journeyman:
Poor Moon Bloodgood. Only her second role as a series regular, and she's already being typecast.*
Bionic Woman has a dark, serious tone. Doesn't look to be fun or campy at all. Even after a few preview clips, I'm already not a fan of the younger sister's character. It's going to have a VERY tough time finding an audience, especially since it's up against Criminal Minds and possibly the Grey's Anatomy spin-off.
*
Time Traveler's Wife (whose character I suspect will be very annoying):You've been gone for TWO DAYS.
Time Traveler (Dan): What??
Dan's Wife: You could have at least called.
Dan: I couldn't
Dan's Wife: Why not?
Dan: Because it was twenty years ago.

I'm surprised that noone has brought up that Katie Sackhoff has joined the cast of Bionic Woman. I wonder if her involvement in Season 4 of BSG will be extremely limited or if Starbuck will be permanently written out.

I would think those who liked West Wing might have given this a try in the same time slot given the similarities in dialogue and character interaction.

Maybe because I work for NBC, I'm biased, but I find a lot of this news to be very good. I've seen some pretty long clips of both Journeyman and Bionic Woman and they both look really good to me. I think the Heroes: Origins thing is brilliant and I'm really glad they're doing it. Journeyman was their highest tested drama in 5 years. Chuck looks really funny(also seen a clip).
The Life and Lipstick show don't really appeal to me, but that may just be my taste. Life looked like it could be good.... Lipstick doesn't look good at all (to me). But I'm not a chick.
I dunno. I'm surprised more people aren't watching NBC's Thursday nights. I think NBC is confused too. I also don't know why anyone (or at least as many people) are watching Grey's Anatomy -- a show I find pretty average.

If that isn't clear, look at what shows have succeeded and failed the past few years. Tell me the advertisers aren't after idiots.

'Life' is the only thing mentioned that gets my attention.
