Of the various Jacob theories, I'm going with Alvar for the moment.
But it brings up lots of interesting questions, of course: Why would the head of Dharma, even if he's confined to some other dimension, continue to work with Ben after he'd killed everyone else?
Have the Others continued Dharma's mission and experiments to save the world? Is Smokey under Jacob's thought control?
We know Smokey creates the ghost figures from people's pasts, don't we? Haven't they already been tied together? Like with Ecco's brother?
That's what I thought until now, at least. But now I'm starting to wonder if it's not the forest itself after all.
Like whatever it is that creates the people--including imaginary ones like Hurley's--is probably the same phenomenon responsible for the swirling voices, and it may predate the Dharma group, who I always figured were responsible for Smokey. Assuming Smokey's a nano-swarm.

Oh yeah, I didn't read the whole thread but I was figuring Ben was fishing for responses with his convo with Jacob. He wasn't seeing or hearing shit. It's the same thing as the voices in the jungle, just... in a house.

But what would the flashlight trigger? Was it just another coincidence that Ben told Locke not to bring it with him because he dislikes technology as much as Locke and the house goes nuts when he turned it on?

Cool episode,
Locke will not die, but if he does the show is over for me...
and I will just take it as the show has ended.
I have said that since season one, if he goes I go. The rest of the cast really does nothing for me, even though I enjoy the show. I did the same thing when Diane left Cheers, never watched another show unless it was one she came back for.
He is my favorite character and take him out of the equation and I don't care about it after that. I am sure that I am not the only one who feels this way, so for them to take out a major character like Locke and hope the ratings slide will not continue is really unrealistic.

Regarding Locke, I really don't think that ABC would allow them to kill off such a popular character. With the ratings mumblings growing and all the end date speculation getting finalized, I just can't see them allowing Lindelof, Cuse, and the rest of them to take such a risk. Obviously I have nothing backing that up, and I'm certainly not bailing if he does die, but I just think it's a terribly unnecessary risk to piss off some of the viewers they do have like d2cheer.

Great episode. Missed the 1st half hour last night, so watched the whole thing again today.
Loved the stuff with Jacob. The show needed a good, over the top, seemingly supernatural WTF moment IMO. That's a big part of what drew me into the show in the first place.

I was thinking the same thing as das concerning women not being able to have kids, and Ben causing his mother's death during childbirth.
My other theory for the childbirth problem was that because the island heals (and maybe now keeps you young) that perhaps it's a failsafe to keep it from overpopulating. It will keep you alive, but you don't get any offspring. However that doesn't explain why it would then make your sperm count really high unless it's a side effect of healing. I guess that leads me to believe it really is the fault of Ben that women can't give birth, with the information at this time.
Also, I thought Jacob looked like Locke.

I think it's kind of interesting that Ben killed his dad before joining the others, and Ben was adamant about Locke killing his dad before joining them. That has to mean something, almost like Ben is conditioning/challenging Locke to take his place. Even the gunshot might be an initiation/test. Maybe Ben went through something similar, and Jacob healed him. Ben could have killed Locke outright from the first shot, or a second shot, but didn't when Locke confirmed he heard Jacob. Then there was the comment about hoping Jacob will help Locke. This might have even been a test for Jacob to see if he would help Locke after not helping Ben with his tumor.
Also before their trek to see Jacob, after Ben told Locke it had to wait, Patchy said something along the lines of "since when do you answer to him." With Patchy being sort of an outsider, and the rest of the Other's reactions to Locke, this seems pretty significant.

That's understandable. And for some reason I still think Walt is on the island. Always have, I'm probably way off but whatever.
