The Shield - "Haunts" - 5/1/07

A lot of people didn't like last week's show, they thought that everything was too slow.

I found it slow, but slow as in that long slow climb up the first hill of a rollercoaster, just filling you with anticipation for the wild ride to follow. It wasn't filler, it was an ep to prepare you for the next wave of chaos to come.

I have been waiting all week for tonight's episode. I am hearing rumors that Episode 5 and 6 are going to be pretty big.

I've watched episodes 5, 6, and 7 and yes, they are indeed huge.

I concur on 5 & 6, six especially. The ending is intense.

OK, clean-shaven Ronnie...

Ummm, shouldn't Ronnie have a horrendous burn scar on the side of his face? That was the whole reason he grew the beard in the first place, I thought.

*edit* OK, now that they gave a better view of him, I see that he has faint scars along his cheek. I don't think they should be that faint, though... I thought he got burned as bad as Armadillo did.

Vic's expression when Shane said "do you ever think about coming clean? About everything?" was goddamned priceless. That's the mark of a great actor, to pull off an expression like that when you can't see his eyes.

Actually, they're up to 7. This week is 8 & 9, and next week is the season finale.

This is the absolute truth.

As the first poster said, the slowness is just setting stuff up. It can't be all out all the time, they need to mix things up, and you don't appreciate it when things go crazy if there's no downtime.

Nice emotional ending. That, Vic finding out that he killed Guardo for nothing and the lack of last week's bullshit "I saw Lem in a dream" garbage is what set this week and last week apart, but both shows were setups for the shitstorm that is to come.

It was good to see Vic's old partner back, if just for one ep.

The only downside I really had with this ep was that as soon as the counselor from the kid's shelter came in and gave the info to Dutch, I said "this guy is the culprit, he's close to the case and he's giving up info quickly and eagerly." I said this before he even mentioned that his daughter was missing.

(may spoil Nip/Tuck plot)

Spoiler:
Maybe Ronnie got some of that pro bono MacNamara work on his face. The good doctor is in LA now, right?

You're right. They get a little mixed up on my desktop and I overlooked #7.

Nice to see Billings pissed off for a change as well. I might as well just watch the other episodes that are online seeing how they are pretty much giving the storylines away in the previews.

On the contrary, I thought this episode was moving very fast.

Confused about a bunch of things.

When they said they found Sabrina's body, were they telling the truth? The guy just made the news, how could they find her so fast?

Second, with the toilet scene, why were they giving him the eviction notice? Did they have anything to do with Shane's beating? Did that other guy who gave Vic a ride want them gone - why?

Shane looked pretty bad. Wonder what more shit could get thrown at him before the finale.

I don't watch any other FX programming (hell, I hardly watch any TV at all), so all I have to do is turn the channel before the preview for the next week comes on.

Could be a crank call, or it could just be someone in the know that helped kill her.

That was Vic's old mentor / partner offering him some on the side work, evicting Jamaican pot dealers from an apartment complex.

Didn't they say that the body had been found a while ago? I imagine that she was just a Jane Doe, and once her picture hit the news, whoever was working her case recognized her.

OK. So these Jamacaian pot dealers had nothing to do with Shane.

Other thing I was thinking about - what happened to Claudette's lupus? Is she just quietly sucking it up now?

Vic realizing Guardo was innocent was a great scene.

Another solid episode.

Someone in my house is always fliiping through the channels. I must have heard the preview to this weeks episode 25 times over the last few days. Sucks ...

BTW anyone who hasn't watched any of the future epsidoes think that Acevada is being played by his political friends? They seem to have an interest, through him, at steering the boat with the mass murder that we now have learned involves a Mexican politican.

Spoiler:
I just watched episode 6 and I have to say it's probably the 2nd best episode of The Shield I have ever seen. "Of Mice and Lem" was my favorite.
