can't wait!

This is the first episode Brian K. Vaughan has been credited for writing since joining the LOST writing team. Apparently he's big in comic book circles.

aktick 04-18-07 08:35 AM

Wasn't there a Russian version of "Catch-22" somewhere that Mikael was reading? Or did I dream that up?

Can't wait!

EDIT: And hardercore, maybe I'm in the minority, but I would prefer you spoiler the episode description and who the flashbacks are about.

vegasbaby 04-18-07 10:35 AM

Just saw the last 15 minutes on closed circuit.

Major spoiler. dont read if you dont want to know:

Spoiler:
Flashback shows when Des and Penny meet for 1st time. Desmond saves Charlie again. Girl stuck in tree isnt Penny.

yojimbo44 04-18-07 10:56 AM

the show has been picking up considerable steam lately, and some of this character's (sorry - forgot spoilers) flashbacks have proven to be interesting at least - had no idea brian k. vaughan was joining the writing staff - thematically his Y the Last Man has a similar structure to lost, so this can only be a good thing in my books.

I didn't read Vegas' spoiler, so the spoilers for tonight may not be as significant.

A world a warning, these spoilers reveal some other things about the season and series in general, not just this ep, so read at your own risk:

Spoiler:

Episode 3.17: Catch-22 (Desmond-centric)
Airdate: April 18, 2007

* 04/04 - ABC updated their press release for this episode and gave a name to Marsha Thomason's character: Naomi. Source: ABC
* 04/02 - Desmond coaxes Charlie, Hurley and Jin on a trek across the jungle after experiencing one of his future-prophesizing “flashes” -- but is he purposely placing Charlie’s life in harm’s way? Meanwhile, Kate turns to an unwitting Sawyer after seeing Jack alone with Juliet. Guest starring are Sonia Walger as Penny Widmore, Jack Maxwell as Derek, Joanna Bool as Ruth, Andrew Connolly as Brother Campbell, Andrew Trask as older monk and Marsha Thomason as parachutist. Source: ABC
* 03/30 - Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz reveal: [We will explore] what's going on with Penny and Desmond. You know what we started in the finale of season two? We'll continue to explore that. Plus, there's another big revelation on that front coming up pretty soon. Source: Lost - The Official Magazine, Issue #10, May/June 2007
* 03/05 - I'm pretty sure [the new female regular is] a subterranean character. Damon and Carlton seemed to admit there's a whole underground contingency on the island in the latest Lost Redux video clip. Source: Kristin on E!Online
* 02/28 - Desmond's beloved Penny makes another appearance in his next flashback. Source: SpoilerFix.com
* 02/28 - [Marsha Thomason, Nessa Holt from Las Vegas, has been cast as...] a new female character will be introduced later this season, and get this: According to exec producer Carlton Cuse, "She does not appear in a flashback, she is not an Other, and she is not one of the survivors of Flight 815." What does that leave? Source: Kristin on E!Online
* 02/24 - Lost was filming at St. Andrew's Cathedral today (Friday, Feb. 23). This is the same church that Charlie visited in Season 1, and where Mr. Eko worked in Season 2. This time, it was for Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick). He was neatly shorn and wearing a long, grey robe, so I'd guess he was more than just a visitor. He was talking to a man in a long black robe and skull cap... and soon got down on his knees, palms together and up, as if to receive communion. Source: The Transmission
* 02/19 - Cuse and Lindelof reveal: I think the Desmond-Penny love story is really central to the whole overall mythology of the show. [Desmond] sort of leveled Charlie with this very sort of specific proclamation at the end of the episode, that Charlie is going to die. And coming down all the way through the end of season three, that becomes a very major storyline that we're following, which is, Desmond keeps seeing Charlie die and can he stop it? Is he powerless to stop it? Source: Kristin on E!Online
* 02/15 - A bit more info about Ruth and Kenneth. Ruth is said to be a strong and pretty woman who has rather sad eyes. Kenneth is a working class type who is quite quick to throw a punch. Source: SpoilerFix BuddyTV Spoilers Chat
* 02/14 - Episode 3.17 will feature Caucasian 50-year-old Theodore and Kenneth and Ruth, both Scottish and in their 20s. Source: SpoilerFix BuddyTV Spoilers Chat
* 01/22 - A new character first appears in episode 3.17 until end of season. Female, mid 20's to 30. Tough, fit, very intelligent. Not American. Source: secretagentman @ TWoP

Spoiler:
I just listened to the podcast, the producers said (as of last week anyway) that they were just putting the finishing touches on the script. How would TV guide know this if the ink is barely dry?

They did mention another tidbit, a cool flashback on the Dharma Initiative in its full glory on the Island will be coming up this season.

As someone who has been in the LOST spoiler game since day one, please take me at my word that no one should EVER take a TVG spoiler at face value. Kristin is the worst - she's wrong at least as twice as much as she's right, and Ausielo speaks in such vague generalities that they become meaningless. I firmly believe that neither of them have ANY inside info beyond what is posted on net fan sites.

Spoiler:
There was a frame in the promo that showed someone holding a book that read "ARDIL-22". Not sure which language this is, though.

No problem ... I've edited the original post.

too much spoilers early in this thread...

... and I'm reading all of them! :D

movieking 04-18-07 07:14 PM

Watching it now, and let me be the first to request screenshots of Kate about 10 minutes into the show :)

movieking 04-18-07 08:00 PM

Just finished the episode, and I really enjoyed it a lot. My favorite parts were:

Jin's Korean ghost story and the whistling of the men when they were marching on the beach. Funny stuff.

As for some of the spoilers above:

All seem legit, unlike previous weeks (like Rodrigo being shot). Marsha Thompson is the one in the parachute, and she knows Desmond, but we haven't seen her in any flashbacks yet.

I now understand why Lost is an hour later.

RichC2 04-18-07 09:24 PM

Jin telling a ghost story. rotfl.

Damn do I love this show.

yojimbo44 04-18-07 09:39 PM

this ep gets a huh?, a wow!, and a screencaps please -pray-

Quack 04-18-07 09:39 PM

This episode seems to be going someplace I don't really want it to....

RoyalTea 04-18-07 09:57 PM

whoa, was that the lady that knew about desmond's future in the picture on the monk's desk?

RichC2 04-18-07 10:00 PM

That entire episode made me uneasy. Starting with "change pants" to "Will so-and-so die instead" to "Oh damn that sucks", hell even next weeks preview.

Heat 04-18-07 10:02 PM

Who was that girl in the tree?

vegasbaby 04-18-07 10:03 PM

could that be
Spoiler:
desmonds sister? they look a bit alike
