I think some people are looking for the wrong monster sound. it makes both a clicking/tapping sound as it approaches, and a loud wooshing sound when it attacks. Only the former was in that scene. It was definately there.

uteotw 03-29-07 04:51 PM

Expose looked more interesting than this ep. Not a thing about Locke & his dad, just two characters I care not a wit about. Two dreadful people buried alive? Yawn...

If your pissed about not seeing continuation for the Locke and Cooper storyline now, then don't tune in for the next three or four weeks. The producers said after The Man From Tallahassee that we won't see them for five episodes ... but when we do see them again it will amazing: to kick the show into high gear and build up towards the finale.

bunkaroo 03-29-07 06:10 PM

The sound is there starting exactly at 39:39 on the ABC site episode. It is a very specific cadence, and that exact sound has been heard before.

Now, I'm not here to argue whether the monster did it or whatever. All I'm saying is the sound is there. Why is it there? Who knows...

Tom Banjo 03-29-07 06:37 PM

Remember the debate over the first episode about whether it was the smoke monster flying around or if it was just unfinished CGI? It makes me tempted to see if last night's episode had anything like that, just to mess with our heads.

Yes, I very clearly remember that scene for some reason.

I will concede that it WAS a lot quieter than it has been in previous scenes...but damnit, it was there! :hairpull: :p

9 pages and no screen caps from the first 5 minutes? :(

Yeah, I went to lost-media.com and was going to steal some pics and throw them in photobucket, but they sucked so I gave up.

Was it an entertaining episode? Yes. Did I enjoy all the cameos by the dead people? Sure. Does Nikki have a great rack? Of course. But ultimately this did nothing but remind me what a disappointment Season 3 is turning out to be.

Sums it up perfectly.

So, 211 posts and no one mentions the obvious....

3. “Lost” (ABC) 11.24m

down another million viewers and it barely beats a repeat of CSI:NY by 600k viewers.

More and more viewers are being 'turned off' by the lack of story progression. Last nights episode did nothing to move the story forward.

Actually, I wonder what the ratings were like in past seasons as the season progressed? I know the numbers have never dropped this low, but with both Seasons 1 and 2, I stopped watching and waited for the DVD's, because when I would miss an episode or two, I wouldn't know what was going on and didn't want to be confused.

Well, the story progressed quite well last week (IMO...and I think most people's), so if that was the reason for previous declines, shouldn't things have held at least steady this week? If people were upset that the story didn't progress last night, it wouldn't have shown in last night's numbers.

But the big thing is the ratings ARE continuing to go down.

Thought I saw an interview with Naveen Andrews and he thought it should air earlier. I personally watch it at this later time anyways, but I DVR it, so I don't care how early it airs. I think it would do better at 7 or 8, just because more people are awake and have their TVs on at those times.

Someone probably has those figures. But their total viewers in millions have dropped more than half in just 2 seasons. I don't know many shows that can claim that dubious distinction.

I predicted doom when they announced the 10 pm starting time. And I watched it for the first couple of weeks live at 10 pm because of the HD. But the last couple of weeks made up my mind to DVR it and watch it the next day. But then I feel like I am coming late to the party in these threads and cannot make detailed comments like I usually would.

Moving it to 8 pm would definitely cause the ratings to go up. Or maybe not. It might not even beat Bones which has fewer viewers at 8 pm than Lost does at 10 pm. Who knows?

We'll see if ABC panics and moves it to 8 pm. Or maybe they will move it to Tuesday night, where there is not much to watch (for me) except The Unit.

A really great episode. The only thing I didn't like about it was Boone's wig.
I do hear a monster like sound there, but I'm not sold that it paralyzed Nikki. Now that I think about it, why would Smokey paralyze her, and not just kill her?
One thing about the Pearl when Ben and Juliet left, did it look like they were headed down a hallway that was never there before? It always seemed to me, that the Pearl's ladder came right into the room and that was it, except for the can.
Also, for all of the flashbacks on the island, they added Ethan to a lot of shots too.

I like Artz, glad to see a little more of him. Some of the earlier posts reminded me of this exchange from last year:

HURLEY: Let me ask you something, Arnzt --
LESLIE ARZT: Arzt.
HURLEY: Arnzt.
LESLIE ARZT: No, not Arnzt. Arzt. A-R-Z-T. Arzt.
HURLEY: Sorry, man. Your name's hard to pronounce.
LESLIE ARZT: Oh, yeah? Well, I know a bunch of ninth graders who pronounce it just fine.
HURLEY: How about I just call you by your first name?
LESLIE ARZT: How about you don't?
HURLEY: Why not? I remember it from the plane's manifest. I think Leslie's a bitchin' name.
LESLIE ARZT: Arnzt is fine.

So let me get this straight...Lost introduced these two characters weeks ago just so they could write an episode of ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS?

BTW...the smoke monster sound was there, but it didnt kill her...the pheremones from the spider that Paolo squashed attracted other spiders.

nateman 03-29-07 10:31 PM

They should move Lost to a different day altogether.
I thought it was a pretty good episode again last night, through the story didn't progress that much it did more then past episodes other than last weeks which i thought progressed real good in the storylines.

Now that there is going to be a fourth season of the show, ABC better reschedule lost to a different time & date altogether, i think through this might sound like a bad idea. they should move the show to fridays at the same timeslot and it would go against CBS's numb3rs & the TBA law & Order.

A move to Friday would almost ensure that season 4 would be the last.

You've never seen those old TV ads from years ago that would say, "9 PM Eastern and Pacific, 8 PM Central and Mountain"?

I think this continual decline in ratings in ensuring it more than anything. If they lose many more by the end of the season, I can see next year being the last.

 Not really. What progressed? We had two characters that were set to escape/leave the island and Locke blew up their transportation. So we are back to square one. Sure we learned why Locke was in a wheelchair, but in the scope of things at this point, who cares? It doesn't advance anything at all, just like Jack's tattoo. They waited way too long to reveal some of this little stuff, because now the island plots are more important than the character building moments like these would have been after season 1.

Another  Lost is truly a soap opera for guys. You could miss 5-6 episodes and not be "lost" at all with how slow they are advancing things.

I also found it funny that a "filler" episode has earned 6 FULL pages from this thread. They must be doing something right.

hardercore 03-30-07 08:51 AM

Yeah, Ben did say that what he did was take what people were "emotionally invested in" and exploit it. Kate's investment in Sawyer ensured that when his life was threatened, she would make Jack do the surgery, which was Ben's main goal.

Well, it's not just any filler episode - it's a special one by genre nerds, for genre nerds. Not surprisingly, Joe Q Public (which is the bulk of Lost's audience, making the difference between this being a hit show versus a fringe cult attraction) seemed to loath this episode.
