Why was Jim Rockford friends with Angel Martin?
Yes .. I know its a 70s flashback ...
I never quite understood their relationship. Granted, they shared a jail cell, but Angel is always getting Jim into lots of trouble and does nothing to help Jim out of it.
The only thing I can think of is comic relief for the show, but their friendship taken on a real level makes no sense.

They were in Korea together as well as doing time(as you know). Angel did provide Rockford with some much needed street info from time to time. I had always felt that Jim had a soft spot for Angel(kind of like a big brother looking out for his ne'erdowell little brother).
