The only real concern I would have with a four year gap between seasons (hey, I still have no idea what year any given season of '24' is supposed to take place - this current one is, what, 11 years after the first? I lost count (Now that I knew in the first place which year the show supposedly was supposed to take place when it started). And don't get me started on how the season 8 comic book of 'Buffy' takes place a year and a half after the season 7 TV show ended.) is this it would make it hard for the writers to make lots of up-to-date cultural references. We know from all the 'Battlestar Galactica', 'House of Wax', etc. references that the show currently takes place in the present. A four year jump would mean the writers would have to know what movies and shows and music will be popular in 2012. Or else abandon the referential dialogue altogether.

The FBI thing sounds intriguing. It would certainly open things up more than just crimes happening in her dorm. Then again, at this point I would watch anything with KB in it.

anything?

Or... you could just accept that it's a TV show, and go with the flow.

Who cares what year it is? They establish Veronica's new situation, and get on with it.

Buy the premise; buy the bit.

Veronica Mars, Smallville, and Supernatural are the ONLY 3 shows on the whole damn CW network worth anything. People are STUPID

HE Pennypacker 03-17-07 10:38 AM

I experienced a variety of emotions while going through this thread. Culminating with anticipation and elation at the thought of a fourth season featuring a new FBI recruit.

Josh-da-man 03-17-07 11:11 AM

The only way I think I'd be interested in a four-year time jump would be if they did something really radical with it. Like, say...

Mac is working as a computer/lab tech, and is a regular.

Veronica is in a relationship with Parker.

Logan is either dead or in prison.

her34 03-17-07 12:52 PM

the fbi jump is bad.

the whole appeal of the show was a detective in highschool. a kid doing adult things using the resources of a kid.

jumping to college lost some of that feel. jumping to fbi will lose even more. hiding under desks, or doing fake calls for information, or doing dress up has appeal in high school scenario, but won't be believeable for a fbi agent.

it'll be like saved by the bell college years. maybe they can bring landry back too...

SMALLVILLE is safe until the actors don't want to do it anymore (same with GILMORE GIRLS)... But as of now 7TH HEAVEN is gone and I'm pretty sure that one of these tree (ONE TREE HILL, VERONICA MARS, and SUPERNATURAL) will survive which leave the CW 3 new drama spots in the fall, and they have 8 drama pilots (two of which the pilots stage is nothing more than a formality).

Personally, I would love to see both VERONICA MARS and ONE TREE HILL continue, but at this point in the game with VERONICA'S decending quality, I might actually be rooting for ONE TREE HILL on May 17th at the upfronts...

I don't understand why anybody would think the FBI jump is a terrible idea. What would you people rather have, no more Veronica Mars at all or FBI Veronica? It's not a very hard decision IMO.

Just think, the show will open with a "Who" song and everything....

I think OTH is safe for atleast another year. VM is a goner, same with Supernatural. What ever happened to the show with Oliver from The OC?

I hope that you are wrong especially in regards to Supernatural.

Although one of the pilot series that CW greenlighted is called "Reaper" so it could replace Supernatural if picked up.

I have no idea! My sister and I got ahold of the pilot way back in August and really LOVED IT, I mean honestly it was an amazing pilot - it was like 'Dawson's Creek' mixed with 'Desperate Housewives' (which is exactly what it was suppose to be), and I've been waiting for it ever since. They have filmed 8 episodes, so they exist... I'm thinking the CW might be holding onto them for summer (to replace 7TH HEAVEN or something)... but I really want to see the additional 7 episodes.

Hidden Palms is tentatively set to debut in May now, presumably a summer run. It was supposed to debut in Veronica's slot this month but the Pussycat Doll thing took its spot.

That's right....I was actually looking forward to that now that 'The OC' is gone, 'One Tree Hill' and 'Veronica Mars' is on the bubble.

Based on the low ratings, I don't blame CW if they cancel VM.

Going into the season, Rob Thomas was thrilled at the night they were on and the lead in (Gilmore Girls) show. VM viewers are die-hards, too bad there's not enough of them.

While I would rather have a FBI VM than nothing, I would prefer her staying in College. The CW caters to a young audience and the FBI version sounds a little too mature for the network.

What I don't want to see if the show comes back next season, is all self contained episodes. They already got rid of the season long mystery this season in attempt to get more viewers. Earlier Thomas said VM might get rid of all the longer mystery archs if it came back next season. That would be a terrible idea.

If this is the last season, hopefully we get a series finale. I would like to see a kick ass DVD set with deleted scenes, commentaries from the writers/cast, etc...

Please don't say such things about Supernatural, We want it to comeback next year, and One Tree Hill.

wearetheborg 03-18-07 02:34 AM

Dam, its my favorite show right now.
A guy from Tivo gave a lecture that I attended. He made a couple of references to VM and how it's targetted audience was 15 year old girls.
I was like WTF ?????

lewisb73 03-18-07 07:59 PM

I hope this isnt true, I picked up this show after seeing all the praise on this site... my wife and I zipped through all the episodes... the show is awesome, and Kristen Bell is nice to look at

I think what hurts Veronica Mars is that most viewers, who don't watch, probably think it IS geared towards 15 year olds.
I don't know if I like the idea of the FBI idea or the individual mysteries. This is exactly what happened to Alias until it got to the point where it wasn't the same show it started out being.

Good call re Mac! Don't need Logan dead, just off the show since VM definitely needs a fresh story line romance wise.

wmansir 03-19-07 04:08 AM

I don't really care what the new situation is, at the very least I will withhold judgment, but I think what the show really needs is to set up a solid, personal mystery premise, like they had the first season. I think a time gap to let things develop could really help that. That's one of the great strengths of 24. They have these gaps they use to alter characters and setup new situations, story lines, and back stories which they can then reveal over the next season.

If they dump the seasonal mysteries and just use the change to refresh the premise then it will be a real disappointment.
