I asked this on page 2, and I'm still stumped by it....Why did Desmond fire the shot to foil Claire's bird trap? Why all the secrecy between Charlie and Desmond, when all Desmond had to do was keep Charlie from trying to catch a bird at the cliffside? I didn't get the connection of Claire's bird trap to Charlie's potential death and Desmond finding another bird on the rocks...?

I think it's the same thing as earlier, Claire probably fell in, Charlie comes to her rescue and dies. And again like earlier, it makes no sense since Charlie is nowhere near her at the time.

I still think Dunno why but I felt the need to spoilerize speculation, but whatever.

But they already did that, just in reverse. Would be silly to do it again.

Maybe so, but I don't see why Kate & Sayid were mad about what he did. Patchy was trying to trick them all into walking through it to certain painful death, so they should've been glad Locke made Patch Guy go first. Good for him.

She's just a boring character to me (hot goth or not). The flashbacks would've been better if I cared at all about her. To me, her only purpose on the show seems to be as the "baby carrier". She lies around, frets about the baby, and is bipolar about how she feels about Charlie. Now that the brother/sister are out of the picture, she's my least favorite regular.
Good question. I was wondering about that even more with Jack and The Others. He had leverage over them ... wouldn't you think the very first thing he'd demand is to be filled in on WTF is going on?!? Though maybe he was, and that's why he's playing FB with his new buddies
They better. If it's a tease, they'll lose what few viewers they have left.

And there's a big problem. Sometimes I think that I'd be better off stopping with "Lost" completely, wait until it gets cancelled, and catch up on the DVDs. There are so many characters, mysteries, and plot-lines that just get dropped - some for a few episodes, others for a season or more. Like the cursed numbers. Or that invisible monster. There's an invisible mechanical-sounding monster stalking the island, and has been known to kill several survivors!!! But aside from the one time a year it pops up, no one even talks about it. And there are many others. When (if) the writers pull these things out of the mothballs, it's hard to care anymore because you hardly remember what happened already.

Not surprised at the ratings drop. It's an easy show to lose patience with, and a hard show to get back into after missing some episodes. Hopefully the ratings drop will serve to improve the show for those of us still watching. The island stuff seems to be getting more interesting, and it seems they're pushing to a big finish to this season (which is getting closer)

I don't recall the scene unfolding that way. I thought Patchy was silent during Locke's and Kate's discussion about the fence. What did Patchy say about it?

He said that they were security sensors, that they were all around the barracks, and that they hadn't worked for years.

But I don't think he was trying to trick them into killing themselves, he was trying to get them to put him through first. Which is exactly why he thanked Locke before dying.

Yeah, I didn't understand the anger at Locke for pushing patchy through. They had three options. Turn back (stupid). Circumnavigate the perimeter of the camp (boring) or plow on through to the Other camp. Once you decide to push on (the only exciting option), who's going to make sure the security is actually off as reported? Seems like there's only one logical choice to me. So they had no right being mad at Locke.

Nothing was preventing him from making a run for the perimeter.

Considering he appeared to lie about the security fence working and that he could've walked through on his own, it seems like he was trying to trick them into walking across it.

I was hoping that after Kate climbed across the fence, she would've held her hands up to her ears and started screaming. And then said "Gotcha."

That, or took all of the clothes off and started doing naked jumping jacks.

How is Kate, Sayid, and John going to get back? And didn't Jack say he was 'now responsible' for taking care of Ben a few episodes back?

Kate, Sayid, and John should be able to walk freely through the "fence" to the other side .. Since the didn't trigger it going in, going back out should not be an issue.

And I must agree with a previous poster - why does John care at all if everyone is saved? He is an adult, and should be able to stay behind if he so chooses.

And he pushes the Russian beyond the fence and the only thing he can say is "sorry" ?? What not just shrug his shoulders and say "oops" ?

Now - when it was found that Juliet did something against the Others, she was going to be killed herself, but was instead just marked. Maybe the Russian knew what fate awaited him and Klugh upon their return.

I agree. I think it is Charlie's involvement with Claire that will lead to his death. Each one of his near deaths has involved Claire. I think once he realizes that, he will have to choose: Life or Claire.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Charlie is helping to raise Aaron (even though it's been only 80 days) and the psychic from season 1 specifically told Claire to raise him alone.

Good theory. Like, say if it was Hurley helping out, he'd be knockin' on heaven's door instead.

Once they pushed Patchy through and realized it was a working system, why didn't they expect some sensor in some location to alert someone that a security breach just happened? Since the system appears to be highly technical, an alarm going off somewhere should be expected by our castaways. They should have laid back for a bit and scouted for a response unit and THEN proceeded to climb over. Seems risky, especially since they are now used to strangers on the island trying to capture/kill them.

This may have been brought up earlier in the thread, but in the beginning of this season we saw the Others hanging out in their little neighborhood as the plane crashed -- is that the same general area where Jack and Tom were playing football? I assume so, just curious.
