can we *officially* call this the moment that LOST jumped the shark?

Pointyskull 03-07-07 09:21 AM

I'm going to do a shot of tequila every time Sawyer calls another character by a wacky nickname. :beer2:

I should be drunk by the first break...

I have high hopes for the next few weeks, sounds like we might get some good "answers" (or at least insights) into a few things.

Michael Corvin 03-07-07 10:26 AM

I watched last weeks episode late and didn't get to comment. I liked it a lot. Not as good as Desmond's episode, but in a strange way Hurly's hope translated into hope for the show. It was a fun episode with lots of character development and little progression. Very season one-ish.

I had the same thought. What's next? They put together a radio made out of coconuts?

what're the odds we get a forrest gump reference during this ep? ;)

of course it'll be "sawyerized" for our viewing pleasure

*edit - has anyone actually made a decent LOST drinking game yet? i found a few on google but they only had 4-5 different rules.

Here are your spoilers for tonight. Before I list them, I'd also like to say there is some buzz (non-producer related) that this episode will actually reveal some more about the mysteries of the island. I will table that until it actually airs.

Cuse's comment about the importance of this episode
Spoiler:

Carlton Cuse: "The connection between the Others and Dharma gets revealed in episode 11.

Spoiler:
There had better be a pretty good explanation as to why Sayid doesn't know some French since he didn't seem to be able to understand the transmission in the pilot. I'd be happy with just a "Sorry, I don't speak French" from him in his flashback.

The Ferret 03-07-07 11:45 AM

I think the Sawyer idea sounds like fun. An episode that combines island plot advancement with a fun subplot is what I like to hear - I'm suprised at the criticism.

If the ping-pong tournament was the whole focus of the episode, then that'd be a different story...

riley_dude 03-07-07 12:26 PM

Anyone read the TV guide story about Lost this week. Addresses fan concerns that the show is going down hill and they even mentioned the episode from a few weeks ago that promised 3 "Answers" and they too were/are scratching their heads as to what they were. They did promise more answers but I have heard that before.
They also promised to get back to the basics with the original cast all together again.
We'll see.

Damfino 03-07-07 12:39 PM

This is my first post in a Lost thread in a few months and I find it interesting that back then I had commented that Lost hadn't jumped the shark yet, although Lost threads had in fact jumped the shark due to too many, "sounds awesome, can't wait" type of posts.

How much has changed! now that Lost is in decline, the Lost threads are starting to transform into Enterprise threads and as a result are now sometimes more fun than the show itself.

The ping-pong story line may be a shark jumper, but for me, I think I'll wait for the inevitable musical episode!

Joss Whedon could write and Direct.

ScandalUMD 03-07-07 12:49 PM

Lost didn't jump a shark. It stamped a Dharma Initiative logo on one and then didn't explain why for two years.

Pointyskull 03-07-07 12:59 PM

More character name symmetry:

Spoiler:
Andrew Divoff as Mikhail Bakunin (presumably Eye-Patch Guy)

The real Mikhail Bakunin was known as one of the fathers of modern anarchism

A nice match for Locke, Rousseu, etc...

The Hydra was a Zoooligcal station. Jack was held in a Shark tank. Maybe the producers are hoping we can put two and two together, same with the Polar bears (Sawyer and Kate held in bear cages).

As for the "jumping the shark" moment ... Sawyer and the Tree Frog, anyone? That great episode ("One Of Them", Henry Gale's grand introduction to the show) will forever be scarred by that pointless subplot. But at least this one looks like it will be fun.

no that was last week... literally ;)

I actually enjoyed Hurley's back story last week. So I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't feel like the series is going down the drain.

aktick 03-07-07 02:40 PM

Can't wait!

I hope we continue to get more Locke and Sayid, they are probably my 2 favorite characters and we've gotten next to nothing from them this season.

Would you love me if I told you that you will see both of those characters flashbacks within the next three weeks?

Love? That's a little strong. I would feel all warm and tingly though. :D

IIRC, the last Locke flashback was the pot farm one? And Sayid's was when Calvin taught him to torture or whatever?

I imagine that if he did do an episode, no matter what the quality, the thread would be filled with unfamiliar faces suddenly praising it as "Best episode ever!!!"

Hubcap 03-07-07 06:12 PM

im really about to bail out on this show if the next couple episodes dont close some of these damn story lines off. Just to much going on and we need some closing in some things.

What storylines in particular would you like to see completely closed out?

Well, he directed an episode of The Office recently without a big fanboy turnout.

RichC2 03-07-07 09:10 PM

apparently the actors get $78k an episode, I think the producers just want to get some use out of all of them :).

Well that does it, the next time somebody tries to get me iced tea, they're dead.

maingon 03-07-07 09:25 PM

so far another good episode.
