It was really disappointing to see it all wrapped into a one-off.

Galactica is at its best when dealing with social and cultural issues.

Another in agreement. I really wasn't looking forward to this episode, but then loved it as I watched. The social issues from both standpoints really made for some good thinking. But then to suddenly have the quick wrap-up at the end made it suddenly feel like a sitcom ending. Weird.

Talked with my dad last night about it and he said it reminded him of the old ST episode with the cloud miners. Didn't see that one, so anyone who did think there were some similarities?

Count me in as somebody who liked this episode, and the rest of the filler episodes. As far as I am concerned these are the shows that really give the show's main story some real substance.

How CONVENIENT that the deck chief can just go right in and have a sit down with the most important human prisoner in existence. There's nothing you can say to convince me that anyone can just go visit Baltar without approval from either Adama or Roslin.

I imagine you'll call it a fanwank, but I think my theory fits with the overall theme of the episode to boot.

I'm with those who believe that it's important to show the societal effect of being on the run this long. I really enjoyed this ep because it showcased the discontent of those who toil every day without knowing (or losing sight of) the big picture. I agree that it was wrapped up too neatly at the end, but I thought it was mostly a realistic depiction of how some people would react to bad conditionds - who cares that Baltar was a traitor, he understands out problems! I thought it was well done.

Finally saw this episode and must disagree with the consensus. Let's see ... a sf program commenting on the current state of our democracy ... ? Easy to trash, not so easy to do. Loved finding out what the rest of the ships are doing, and the tensions and conflicts among the various ships.
Lots of storylines have the potential to spring from this episode (although given the abrupt narrative syle of BSG it's a wash whether they will or not).
Overall IMO, with the exception of a seemingly-pat ending, one of the (if not THE) best episodes of the season!!!

Sweet shit, her writing sucks! Here's the breakdown of how the conversation between Adama and the Chief should have gone:
Adama: You put those people back to work or I'll kill your wife
Chief: You think you're having a hard time now, old man? You don't know jack dick. Kill her or anyone else just because they're protesting the shit treatment they're getting from you and you'll see what a real mutiny is.
