When Desmond was in Mr. Widmore's office, did anyone else catch the painting on the wall? It had the word "Namaste" written on in backwards. That was the salutation said in the orientation film in the hatch.

Sarah McLachlan's Building A Mystery was in the background as Desmond was getting ready to meet Penny's pappy..

I refuse to speculate about previews anymore, especially after last weeks "We're going back!" preview for this week. :\

I had a different take on this episode that many people here seem to of had. I thought the entire flashback was all in Desmond's head, and he didn't actually travel back in time at all. It was just a "vision" he had while unconscious.

The old woman, though, made me believe it was most certainly a dream.

Waking up naked = terminator motif = time travel
On a more serious note, even if he really went back in time how can we possibly explain how the ring dealer knew him and everything else that was going to happen? How would only one person he ran into know who he was and what he was ment to do?

Great episode.
My opinion... it was all a dream up to the point when he pushed the button, and after that he really gained the ability to see the future (precognisance? not the right spelling, but you know what I mean)
And did I miss something? Did the actor who plays Charlie get a DUI in real life by any chance?

Looks like I probably get my wish. The creators of the show said Charlie was one of the "untouchable" characters because he was an actor that could draw in an audience. I guess Lost has enough followers that Charlie isn't needed anymore.

Anyone else struck by the similarity between Desmond predicting the rain when he was talking to Charlie in the past and Locke correctly predicting rain in one of the early episodes in Season 1?

I don't think he'll be killed off for a while, it just seems too.. obvious.

This was one of my favorite episodes to date. Just a quality mindfuck. There are three or four ways to interpret what happened to Desmond; it's ambiguous to say the least.

Great episode. Desmond is quickly becoming my favorite character on the show.
A total mindfuck to say the least. Desmond told his scientist friend all about the island (while at the pub) perhaps he goes on to tell Penny who then starts her search for him.
I loved how Charlie kept calling Desmond "brother" when they were drinking.

Mmm. I really wanted to drink some of that whiskey.
Good episode actually. Desmond's stories have been pretty interesting. Hopefully Penny shows up again.
Did they ever explain how Desmond met Jack? Which city did they meet in? Los Angeles?

I thought Desmond's experience was just a way of his mind preparing him for the burdens of his new gift. He used the example of the biggest mistake of his life to illustrate how he can't circumvent fate.
Anyone else struck by how ample Penelope is in the chest area? I hadn't noticed that last season.
